They’ll have to turn over the roster regularly hence their signings are all older players, wonder how younger players will go if they sign any. Feel like they would only handle compound living 2-3 years max.

Compound living is tough, but not being able to simply drive or walk down the street to do shopping or enjoy a coffee with a friend without having precautions in place is challenging.

No doubt … they will also be back in Australia playing footy every second week … probably a few times a year they will have back to back away games organised in the draw and spend the week in between staying in Australia training ..

I'm not in any way, shape or form suggesting we will be competing with teams like the Roosters next year, or at least for the next 5 years lol.

I am suggesting that to devote a large part of our cap to someone who is playing in the back-row, and has not performed to the level of an elite back-rower this year would be very risky.

I cannot think of another backrower earning 1.2m a season. What justifies Samuela being the first other than potential?

We have been paying players on potential for the last 15 years. We almost had two players tied to >1m contracts because of potential. Thankfully, we dodged a bullet and they left.

Start paying players what they deserve based on actual results.

Our results are a reflection of kidding ourselves that we don't need our good players who choose to go elsewhere. Not only do we need to keep them we need to strengthen what's around them.
Brooks played finals the first year that he left us.
Galvin was worth the risk - and will prove it with every season that he plays.
We would be a better team if we retained Stefano and IPap too.
I don't think we have dodged anything - we are stagnant.

Bula is better than he has shown last six weeks and we all know that.

I’ll be surprised if the brothers go to the Roosters ..Latu would be a permanent depth piece there and I assume paid accordingly.. and I can’t see them paying Sam $1 million plus like we will no doubt offer him …it’s not an area of weakness in their team and they don’t lack for internal options to replace Crightin for cheaper…Sam has a high ceiling and could be an Origin level player ..but it’s still a bit of a risk to pay him like one now ..the Tigers will do it ..im not sure the Roosters will

I guess Farnsworth is some chance of going there as he is an elite player …they will need to offer him top money to get him out of Brisbane ,,,he plays in a good team already and seems happy there ..I’ll say he stays with the Dolphins although that could be wishful thinking ..

If not the Roosters perhaps a good fit would be the Bulldogs, maybe Gus sees more upside in Samuela then Preston and throw Latu into the mix and he gets his halfback spot filled as well.

Yes ..it’s probably more likely the Bulldogs over the Roosters ..is Preston right edge though ? Kikau is 31 …maybe they move on from him ..although I think he is still a very good player and has made a big difference to the Bulldogs since he has been back from injury ..

Kikau has been the difference since he came back...however he is at a point where any injury will severely restrict him. Not sure how many years he has left on his contract though.

Kikau signed through to 2028 probably on reasonable coin…suggest the likes of us ( if Sam left) or Parra would take him still for a couple of years if the Dogs wanted to move on from him… I don’t think they should though but Sam and him both can’t play the left edge ..

The hard part is structuring these new contracts starting in 2028 when nobody knows exactly what the cap will be yet , $20m, less, or potentially more.

I think that’s the issue they’ll potentially have a lot of money in edge forwards when their spine needs work. Preston plays both sides

Yes ..but Sam and Kikau don’t ..one would have to be moved to the middle which I think blunts their effectiveness

I’ve read media estimates the cap will be $15-16m come 2028 …the broadcast money will increase per year over the seven years of the deal

There is no hope in hell he gets anywhere near $1.2 , I think $800 is about right ,
Now u say he has not performed this year , I disagree, up untill he got injured he was playing great football, just my take

Can't see it going up 8 mil in one season, when in the salary history has it gone up by more than 60% year to year.

True about players waiting to see what happens maybe there could be an NRL projection from 2028 to a nominated year.

But there on a island , no locals other than works , but u will soon get bored if that’s all u got , wife’s and kids will not get to travel with the team , so that means players will be away for lots of time
