Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I can’t believe some people on here, we are linked to one of the biggest stars in the NRL and not many want him at the WT’s.
I know it was just Pooper trying it join the dots to get a story.
I wouldn’t pay the $1.1 figure that Pooper pulled out of his rear end.
What if it was David Fifita, there would be heaps of naysayers demanding the club pass on the offer.

@Bathursttiger2 I can't stand the slamming lil fellas over the sideline like he's trying to stamp his dominance (not sure he realises there's a reason there is weight classes) then pulls the racist card when people call him out on it. Good player no doubt but we just got rid of a sook that could play do we really want another?

Have the club gone crazy - 1.1 million x 3 years for Mitchell. Lol

Maybe good for a lot of teams - not for us (with our roster at the moment) imo.

Worth every penny. I’d make it 4 years.

I agree, but bad luck we are dealing in dollars $$$$ Lol

In that time the cap will go up and we will have the best centre in the world, maybe one of the greatest rugby league centres ever plus we will have a gun goalkicker.
He doesn’t just fill 2/3 pieces we are looking for right now, he smashes it.
If there is any other player that can bring back life and hope to the club, if there is any more destructive back on his day (maybe except for teddy) , if there is any other player that can bring back the fans, then I’m a monkeys.
This guy is it.
Greg Inglis had his lazy days too...who cares? Latrell is Inglis mk2.
If we don’t pay up someone else will and we will lick our wounds while we struggle to sign whoever is left on the scrap heap.
Get this done Wests Tigers!!!

@rustycage
MADGE HAS A PLAN
At the Rorters LM is a good player amongst a host of other good players at the WTs he would be our Star player and this may well bring the best out in him.It would appear this is a ploy by Robbo to hold on to a good player at a good price what LM needs to remember is one day a rooster next a feather duster and at his age he needs to grab what he can while he can and also both Tigers and Magpies have had some very fine aboriginal players go through there ranks over the years.

A signing like Mitchell and we wouldn’t be able to afford any others! He’d want a big contract. I’d rather spread what cash we do have around on signing 3 or 4 decent players than putting it all into just one marquee player - we need strengthening across the park, not just at fullback or centre.

Sour grapes already?
What a sad, defeatist attitude.

Some other team will sign him and then will be able to afford others. We KNOW that will happen.
The only thing stopping us becoming a force is ourselves.

Latrell is off to Souths. Terms agreed, take it to the bank...

Probably just as well. I mean you know, his attitude stinks :face_with_rolling_eyes: FMD

Just as well we didn’t sign a world class player who can kick. Phew that was close!!!

Sorry? I don’t understand your narky response. I’m just saying that signing a player like Mitchell would most likely take up just about all of our newly acquired cap space and, as good as he is, I don’t think it would be wise to spend it all on just one player. We really need a couple of good forwards first, Mitchell needs good players around him to fire. Everyone was having a dig at Canterbury wanting to spend a motza on Mitchell, but now it’s ok if we do it?

Roosters are ruthless, they've already got a centre replacement and are angling themselves in for Fifita.

**Sydney Roosters centre Billy Smith in line to replace Latrell Mitchell
The Sydney Roosters are already prepared for life without Latrell Mitchell, and it will leave them with the salary cap space to go after off-contract stars like David Fifita**.

MEET the rising teenage prodigy ready to step in and replace Latrell Mitchell at the Sydney Roosters.

Exciting centre Billy Smith has been part of the Roosters’ extended NRL squad for the past two seasons, already striking up an impressive combination with superstar fullback James Tedesco.

The Roosters are likely to be on the lookout for a new centre after The Daily Telegraph revealed they had withdrawn an $800,000 offer to the Kangaroos centre for season 2021 and beyond following a meeting with coach Trent Robinson at the club’s Moore Park headquarters on Tuesday.

It’s understood the Roosters were prepared to offer Mitchell an immediate release if he signed with another club before the start of next season.

Rather than delve into the free agency market, the Roosters have an emerging replacement coming through the ranks in Smith.

Given the retirement of $1 million-a-season halfback Cooper Cronk, Mitchell’s departure would leave them in a strong salary cap position to target the game’s premier 2021 free agents, headlined by Brisbane forward David Fifita.

The Roosters are believed to be keen to lure Fifita, 19, to Bondi, while rivals South Sydney would use the salary cap space created by the retirement of Sam Burgess to tempt him to Redfern.

At 191cm and 99kg, Smith is a similar size to Mitchell (193cm and 102kg) and could slot into that Roosters’ left edge including Luke Keary, captain Boyd Cordner and winger Daniel Tupou.

Smith, 19, made his NRL debut in the Roosters’ 34-12 win over St George Illawarra in round 23 in August, finishing off a scintillating try after Tedesco put him into the clear with a slick pass.

“It’s what dreams are made of. I’ve been thinking of that moment since I was a little boy,” he said of his debut, which came after he overcame a serious knee injury.

“It’s been a pretty long 11 months for me with the ACL injury.

Robbo’s got so much confidence in me and I really feel that. The boys have a lot of faith in my ability. It’s easy for me, I just play off the back of those boys.”

Tedesco is definitely a fan of Smith. In August he revealed to The Daily Telegraph he had enlisted Smith and Lachlan Lam to help improve his catch and pass skills.

“Billy Smith and Lachie Lam are my guys, so I just grab those boys and we’ll work together because Latrell Mitchell is always working on his goal kicking.

“Billy Smith is a centre and he’ll work on his quick hands and he’ll do some long passes with me. Lachie will do his catch and pass too. It’s a little crew we have and we always work together after most sessions.”

That assistance from the Roosters youngsters helped Tedesco reach the peak of his powers in 2019, where he won NSW’s Brad Fittler, the State of Origin Mal Meninga Medal, the RLPA’s Players Champion, Medallist, Dally M Fullback of the Year and Dally M Medallist.

The Roosters are mindful of the fact their Australian and NSW captain Cordner and champion fullback Tedesco need to be their highest paid players.

Smith was a standout for the Wyong Roos in the NSW Intrust Super Premiership in 2018 before suffering that ACL injury, which delayed his 2019 campaign.

@Spud_Murphy

I’m just saying as long as he signing somewhere it is going to be on big bucks and hey it might as well be us. Why not?
We won’t use ALL our cap on him.
Neither will any other club.

It’s like we are trying to find excuses for failure before even failing. I blame the club for instilling this inferiority complex in the fans. So I wasn’t having a go at you Spud but at the general defeatist attitude we have to signing marquee players Sorry if it came out wrong.

Instead of us finding reasons why Latrell won’t work, we should get behind the club to make this happen.
If it fails then cest la vie, at least we were in the hunt and have serious intentions of competing.

@TheDaBoss

Wasn't there some English forward from St Helens people were talking about on here a while ago?

I'm actually amazed we don't look at the Super League more given how well Gareth Ellis turned out for us

Why bother then. Let’s try and sign Michael Jennings instead. Complain when we’re linked to superstars and complain when we’re linked to players who are over the hill. The club can’t win.

Not only Ellis, but look how good Canberra have done. There’d be dozens more over there who are no names in Australia, who would be just as good.

The timing of this definitely gives us a chance if we make him a good offer. The Dogs reportedly have cooled on him, and Parra have just signed Matterson. Souths look like their going after Fifita. Sharks have Ramien back. That takes 4 potential rivals out of the race. Idk who else could match what we could offer. Unless the Storm or Broncos decide to swoop in.

I find it strange that it is 6 days into Nov and we have not really heard of any actual movements yet.. Not just Tigers but a lot of clubs and team are getting ready for pre-season in a few weeks.. Maybe the calm before the storm :eyes:

Sign him up as a marquee fullback for 900k - 1m+ p/season. Maybe slightly back-ended so we have room to sign a couple of forwards. Thank the boys leaving next year for their services, start fresh with Mbye, Talau, Brooks, Mitchell, Lomax etc... Sheesh
