But...but - they are "game managers" surely with all that field position (and 7 set restarts to 1) they must have got the Knights home.

What are you saying? You don't need game managers or those two are poor at it?

Ponga ain’t a game manager. Pearce is a choker. Cameron Smith is a game manager. DCE too

That's up there with some of the most ludicrous comments ever posted on this forum.

Watch his game vs eels. Led manly to a victory one of his best games ever not everyone can play perfect all the time.

Despite people on this forum not thinking it exists, all the good teams at the moment have halves who control games. Yes they hold onto the footy and run hard but their halves lead them around beautifully which is something we lack

Yeah, this current narrative that you don't need a controlling player is embarrassing. Ridiculous.

"Game Management" is such an intangible quality, I'm not sure I would recognise it when I see it. All I know, based on what I read on this Forum, is that Brooks and Benji can't do it.

There’s a reason we lose the close games majority of the time

Could also be the other team is a little bit better than us. There are many reasons why close games are won and lost and most of the time it’s not the halfbacks fault.

The Tigers beat the Bulldogs in Round 7 when Keiran Foran played 80 minutes.

There are obviously more important aspects to a teams performance than a controlling half.

One dominant player can work, the 6 & 7 or the 6, 7 & 9 sharing the responsibility can also work.

Yep we drop the football a lot…

And give away silly penalties and get suspended.

It's funny against the Eels at the end of the 1st half and 25mins into the 2nd we dropped the ball gave away penalties had 6 again calls repeat sets ..

In the final 15mins we controlled the football stopped the penalties and 'managed' to score the final points of the game..

Yes that's true but it is ludicrous to suggest that one player in the halves can win games without a dominant performance from the forwards. A half cannot control a game behind a beaten pack no matter who it is - they go hand in hand- hence a team performance.

Clearly a half needs to work behind a strong forward pack, but guys like smith and DCE manage a game and keep field position, find touch, win repeat sets that keeps his team on the front foot which benefits the forwards. Definitely goes both ways but having a classy controlling halfback is crucial and it’s clear we are missing it

South Sydney Rabbitohs winger Alex Johnston has revealed he has had interest from rival NRL clubs, but is no closer to securing his long-term future.

The 25-year old was recently told by the Rabbitohs that he would not be re-signed for 2021 and beyond, leaving him without a club next season.

Johnston has since been linked with a move to Melbourne, Wests Tigers or St George Illawarra.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, the 2014 premiership winner revealed he has been in talks with rival NRL clubs but a move is not yet confirmed.

“There’s been a bit of interest," he said.

"At the moment I haven’t moved forward with anything, I’m just focusing on playing footy. Hopefully that interest comes into something soon.

“It was maybe a bit stressful for a while, with the whole COVID thing as well. I’m glad to be back out there playing some good footy I think.

"It’s good to get that interest and if I keep playing well, hopefully I will get some more."

Johnston has scored 90 tries in 132 games for South Sydney - an incredible strike rate for a player who has spent lengthy periods at fullback.

And the La Perouse junior said that while he does enjoy the time he spends at fullback, it's not a priority for him when negotiating with a new club.

“I just try and relish the time I get back there. It’s a bit of fun...hopefully teams see that I can play fullback," he said.

“I don’t really care. Priority-wise I want to be playing finals footy. At the end of the day I will go anywhere to play fullback or play wing. I don’t have a priority at all.

“Being a young guy in the past coming through, contracts were done a bit quicker than this. Souths were willing to re-sign me, but it’s not happening this time around at the moment. I have to look out for other clubs and get them keen.

“When I’m out there I’m not thinking about it at all. During the week I’m trying to stay focused…knowing that there is a bit of interest out there definitely helps. I’m hoping that leads into something else sooner rather than later."

Johnston has represented Australia once and Papua New Guinea twice, and has established himself as one of the game's elite try-scorers since debuting six years ago.

Whichever club picks him up next year, they've got a fine player on their hands.

Yes that’s the difference

Nathan will stick to a game plan and play well. He will kick the winning goal or field goal , kick the right kick in goal or follow a game plan to pepper a wing struggling with high ball and win more of them than not.

Brookes goes missing more often than not, doesn’t follow game plan, runs when shouldn’t.

Starting to realise brooks is no better than a Sam Williams or other half that’s never kicked on that we have invested way too much in.

Johnston would be a handy pickup. Fast winger who can actually make a line break and score a try (unlike Jennings) and can also cover fullback pretty well

Still holding out hope for JAC
