Someone on this forum mentioned something a few days ago about a mystery prop and next week... I’m being told by a reliable source that it could be Matt Lodge. He knows Hartigan from their Roosters days so this wouldn’t surprise me whatsoever. Bloody hope it’s fake news

It's an old forum joke

@innsaneink got some mileage out of that one

Buzzard has downed a few and reports in his Saint Sinner Swoooooooosh column that Billy Walters has expressed interest in returning to the Donkeys to play under his Dad..

Sweet, give us carrigan and call it a deal ?

I’d much rather Jordan Riki he plays like a young Sunny Bill.

Yeah for sure
He can sniff out a try too

I'm curious myself, if Brandon Smith is such a good hooker, why Storm are allowing him to field offers and instead keep Harry Grant.

Does this mean Storm consider Harry a better hooker than Cheese?

I reckon Cheese is one of the better non-prop locks going around, him and Victor Radley. No idea why the bloke is so dead-set on playing FT hooker.

He’s a top 5 hooker in the NRL all signs point to Harry Grant being the best over the next 10 years.
Issue is price vs the potential of Simpkin. If you have a chance due to Madge’s relationship as NZ coach you have to take it. Simple as that. He’s wasted at lock albeit he’s damaging.

Mate , chuck 100 on Simpkins being there as well . He was rated higher than grant coming through . Not saying he will surpass him in the top grade , but the wraps on This kid are no joke . I saw a CC cup game last year with him in , and he was carving up men, at 18 . He’s going to be special .

I agree he’s good been saying that for 12 months if nothing changes liddle won’t play. Brandon Smith is proven and having both may be great. Depends on whether cash is better spent elsewhere and who else we can’t attract. We have way too many holes and question marks.

I wonder if people will feel the same way about Smith in 12 months time once they've seen Simpkin play?

That’s why I feel it’s strange ***the club are talking about smith*** now it’s not backing their current 9’s

The club are talking about Smith?

Madge was directly asked the question and he gave a very non committed answer, likes him, good player but then went on to praise both Liddle and Simpkin.

I havent seen any evidence of the "Club talking about Smith".

Choc Watmough was a small 2nd-rower, but he killed it in his day.
If Cheese was elligible for the Blues, I'd have had him over the Parra pretender on the bench any day.

Les Boyd was 5ft 9inch tall.

Yeah but all the forwards where shorter in those days is my recollection (minus the Sironen & Peter Provan freaks).

We have holes and questions marks over the whole team don't we. Do we have any proven performers that are in form and established players in their position ? I reckon Tamou, Luciano and Nofo are the only three who fit into that category.

I think we should sign Mansour, Widdop & Sironen to finalise our 2021 squad. It looks like we won’t be getting Laurie so I would be putting Widdop at 1 & won’t cost too much either he also provides improved goal kicking & experience. He could also rotate with Douiehi if necessary. Mansour would be our best left winger for sure & Sironen would come in for Garner.
My Top 17
Widdop
Nofoaluma
Roberts
Leilua
Mansour
Douiehi
Brooks
Ofahengaue
Leilua
Sironen
Musgrove
Liddle
Tamou
Bench
Mbye
Twal
Packer
Mikaele

Canterbury Cup Squad
Cini
Kepaoa
Talau
Momorovski
Bradley
Walters
Madden
Blore
Chee Kam
Garner
Seyfarth
Simpkin
Utoukamanu

Development Players
Gebbie
Kei
Hoffman
Tuilagi

Not a bad squad & definitely capable of making the top eight with plenty of depth.

Smith is a very good footballer, but I am not sure he is a great hooker.

He played test football for NZ, but other recent selections in that position were Luke and Levi.

Both are free agents, anyone keen to chuck 500k their way?

I was at that game in Penrith, he was a standout and had a better all round game than Harry. Harry however is such a busy player he stands out. Love both players and Jake will be a gun

The question marks are positives in a strange ways. Douihei at 6, BJ, Jet, Blore, Talau, Simpkin, Ofehengaue, Laurie, Kepoa. Could be anything next year.

Last few years we sort of knew we were mid table this team could run anywhere.

I agree. There is a lot of talent in the team now. It's not hardened talent that you can bet on but if they fire we may have a good season.

I don't see a team of plodders out there now.

Billy Walters won’t be out that long. Had a relative at the members function on Friday and he talked to billy who was hopeful he’ll be back around round 3.

I agree with this, but IMO we have talent and potential all over the park and critically in key positions. Worse case scenario they all perform at plodder level but there is a very high ceiling.

Previously, we did have proven performers in these positions but they had been proven to be average standard with no upside.

There is only potential to be great, IMO not the potential to be worse.

For example

Cory Thompson v Mbye/Laurie
Mbye v JTJ
Benji v Douiehi
Aloiai v Joffa
Huth v Tamou

In all of those match ups, at worst the new will match the old

I think the biggest difference may not be recruits but improvement in BJ, Talau, Douhiei, Twal, Simpkin, Blore. They know what to expect hopefully they deliver.

Agree on Smith. His skillset is quite poor for a hooker/playmaker. He is better suited as a lock IMO.
Big no to Luke and Levi, Luke is past it and Levi is hopeless.
