On Today’s post game 2MMM interview with Nicho Hyens he said he had no offers for next year.
Sounded like the Broncos would like him.

Well the last thing we need is to be in a bidding war for a fringe first grader the Broncos want.

He wouldn't be fringe in too many other sides. It's taking Paps to keep him out of the Storm team...

He'd block the progression of one of our very good juniors. Hynes won't help us bridge the gap to the top teams. Our outstanding juniors will. Let's not fritter what money we do have away on fringies.

Seriously P&C, you have to put this one eye approach to our juniors into perspective, they are not FG ready and they may come on in a few years, BUT we need the players now.

So we invest in juniors and then block their path to the NRL? That is an excellent way to deliver them to other predatory teams.

You can't have a team full of half cooked pies.
You need fully cooked bacon and cheese pies from Yatala with a few half cooked's in the oven.
Hynes is fully cooked and delicious.
Juniors that are good enough will still find their way out of the oven.

Laurie is better than Hynes at fullback. Deouihi is better than Hynes at 5/8 and also centre.

As for juniors, I'd much rather Ogden and Talau run out in the cwntres for WTs.

If the Broncos are interested in Hynes, let them have him. He is not good enough to get into a bidding war.

You would rather but the other 99.999% wouldn’t.

put it in a business sense, i have a junior accountant, my main accountant retires, do i automatically promote the junior accountant because he is already on my books? or do i go and find the best accountant that applies for the advertised job?

What if:
- You work for a firm that isn't very appealing to top-notch accountants.
- The only senior accountants who are willing to come and work for you are ones that literally can't get work anywhere else.
- All your most successful hires for the past decade have either been young accountants you've trained yourselves or relatively junior ones other firms don't appreciate.
- In fact, the reason why your firm isn't appealing to good accountants is literally because you've spent so long stacking the senior ranks with useless accountants, who do poor quality work and have lost you all your good clients.

It has to be a horses for courses approach, surely? If there is one thing the Tigers do ok it's finding players who are good quality but are blocked or overlooked at other clubs. Basically every single good players we've had in recent years has come to us this way, while every single dud has been a "proven first grade" signing.

Also, we're clearly not one or two players away from competing to win the comp. The young core we have needs that amount of time to grow - to work out who's got what it takes. Sure, we can complement that with some experience from elsewhere and, to be clear, if we can sign young players from elsewhere with some first grade experience and a chance to improve I'm all for it - Doueihi types. I'm not totally sold on Hynes but that kind of guy is worth a look, provided we don't have to pay him like a origin regular before he's justified it.

What we *have* to do is avoid the kind of quick fix signings we've been making from Adam Blair to Moses Mbye. One or two guys who aren't much better than bog average first grade standard but cost us 10% of the cap apiece is precisely what's been killing us for years. Shoving a Dane Gagai into this roster on $500k a year will make nack-all difference to our performance (ok, it might move us from 12th to 10th) and it *will* mean we lose a Talau or a Simpkin when we need to find money to retain them.

Ogden would be what 20? We had a hooker debut at 19. It seems talent and form determines selection.

Is there anyone on this forum who wouldn't want to see Ogden run out in the centres for WTs?

I’m certainly not speaking for anyone else, but I wouldn’t think for the next couple of years, no. He’s too young.

What about the 99.999% who wouldn't comment?

Ogden would be what 20? We had a hooker debut at 19. It seems talent and form determines selection.

You would have to ask the 99.999% there thoughts.

Where was our hooker last game? If you believe kids should be playing FG, then fine, I don’t. I would rather be picking up someone like Hynes.

St Helens in SL having salary cap problems a lot of players being squeezed out. This is a snippet from the article noticed KEVIN NAIQAMA amongst them he was very good for us.

Fages, who has made 133 appearances for Saints since joining the club from Salford in 2016, is free to speak to other clubs, as are overseas players Lachlan Coote and Kevin Naiqama and highly rated second rower James Bentley, all of whom are also out of contract this year.

James Bentley woukd be worth a shot can play second row and dummy half,

Im not for signing 30 year olds who arent extremely elite however this diea that we just put our own juniours in is rubbish. We will get nowhere like that.

The problem with this club is the senior playing group. Unless we slowly replace them with guys who give their all and are clutch performers who help set a new culture nothing will ever change.

Some people are seriously happy to finish 9th as long as we have good blokes who are local prospects making up the team.

Many of of us would rather try and jump into the top 4. It has to be the goal. You cant run a club on emotion.

I’d be ecstatic if we finished ninth this year

No you can’t, you need locomotion, but you can get a seat on the board.

Underrated signing Target for 2022, Reuben Garrick.

Works hard out of his own end, great size for a winger, decently quick and an above average goalkicker

Also think Isaac Liu is another underrated pick up

Are we actively chasing these 2, or just thinking we should?

I just think we should. Not a whole lot of talent available but I think these 2 are ones not many people are talking about.

Both of them will probably re sign within the week now

We should make this happen.
He's a super star.

**I urge everyone to watch his sit down / face to face with Matty Johns**

Why?

Why do we all of a sudden decide to buy players based on podcasts or interviews?

It made me appreciate his character a lot more.
It was interesting, insightful and inspiring.

If you're a footy fan like MYSELF, it's one of the good success stories of rugby league.

* Not to mention is as a great player.
Can play anywhere and always looks like likely.
He's better than almost all our backs.
I like him at centre for us.

Tall, fast, safe, creative and good finisher.

I was against him a couple of weeks ago but Im warming to him. The problem for me is that we have bought Laurie for FB. IMO Hynes is too small for centre or 5/8. Would be good at 1

Hynes to small for centre or five eight, you must have him confused with someone else, he is plenty big enough at 188cm and 90kg

It’s his gimmick. It’s hilarious.

6 of the 14teams in the new canadian usa rugby league comp that is soon 2kick off has only 8 teams starting as of this date.the 6 teams that dropped out will not compete because of insurance cost's...such a shame,so the gossip say's

I like Hynes a lot. I'm not sure Laurie is our long term fullback. Personally, I think 6 might be his best position. Not this year, certainly, and maybe not next either. But I remember Gould saying he thought Laurie's best position was 6.
Hynes might be the perfect 1 for us when/if Laurie moves to 6 and in the meantime, would make a very good centre.

I have seen enough of Hynes to sign him tomorrow to play No1 this guy can play--- High ball good. .positioning good..passing game good ... Attitude good..speed good ..footy smarts good .. defensively good ..big body good ...tackle breaks good..he is the fullback the team needs .Laurie has not impressed Tbh he is safe but that's about where it ends.
The talk of Gagia is a step backwoods the club needs to invest in youth obviously the attention span is limited here go back a season or two and see the real Gagia a god in maroon a nuffie in club colours another looking for a pension i find the talk of his signing as worrying to a say the least .
