Just read somewhere on here that Madge approached Vaughan subsequent to his signing with Dogs, how on earth does this happen? Can someone please explain to me how recruitment usually works, as while I'm not his biggest fan I feel this is embarrassing that he was forced to do this and had zero knowledge of Vaughan's link to the Dogs.

Where did you read it? Was it a "reliable source". Maybe it is BS that some like to swallow when things are bad.

Well management have to do something. We have over 400k to spend in the next day. The only acceptable option is to recruit from outside. The seasywas over months ago.
There's no one in NSW cup that deserves a contract upgrade. Even throwing all our money on Front loading a jersey Flegg player would be a waste as none are ready so we're just wasting cap space.

If the simply promote Tuilagi or even worse, Cooper, it would be an extreme insult to every member and show in full transparent how pathetic our management is. They won't, and can't survive that.

Extend Steph and front load his contract.

We should nail Steph long term right now, we can build the forward pack around him - his confidence is sky high after Origin and he has a real presence out there... he won’t go backwards but if we wait a couple of seasons he will be out the door, especially with Fitler in his ear.

It was a Brent Read article in The Australian which contained direct quotes from Vaughan. Based on what was contained in the article I'd be 99.99% sure (sadly) it's accurate.

Offer him 5 years at $1.1m a year.

Go hard and go strong and blow storm and roosters out of water.

I agree to not play overs for signings, but so it allows you to make a big play at a club defining marquee player like the cheese

We need more than Smith. No way he comes to our rabble without other notable personnel changes.

Smith is exactly what we need. He'd make a massive difference to us. I don't want to see us pay overs like that mentioned above. I'd want Tommy T for those dollars. I reckon if we offered something like 800k we'd be right in the negotiations but with a new team entering the comp all marquee deals are going to be over inflated.

Paul Vaughan was always going to Canterbury, something he made clear to Michael Maguire when the Wests Tigers coach contacted him at the 11th hour to get a sense of his plans for the future.

Vaughan and his respected manager Darryl Mather had zeroed in on the Bulldogs quickly after his career was brought to an unceremonious end at St George Illawarra.

I would love Smith and agree we need him, even if we went above 800k can’t see him coming unless we have some other recruits to support him. He is young won a premiership and on track for another, already a kiwi re. Players like that have choice across the league and what we offer won’t be at the top unless we change our personnel.

That article confirms my opinion about the issue. It's a non issue to me. It's not even bad.

Actually it highlights a recruitment structure that is completely broken. We waited 2-3 weeks to reach out to a player, when it was widely reported he'd already had an offer on the table from the dogs. If we even wanted to be considered we needed to be in contact much earlier in the process, at least reaching out to let his agent know.

This smacks of an unprofessional and amateur recruitment team we have, and that is reflected in our failed efforts to sign almost every player.

I don't want that idiot here in any case but if we identified a Target we've got to be far more professional and organised

I think we will get a announcement from the club late afternoon to advise that the club has decided to upgrade a few of the younger players to top 30 even though that don't deserve it because no one wants to come here.

Or does anyone know if the deadline has been pushed back with all this Covid stuff.

Only one spot in our 30 - technically the deadline is august 2 as well I believe so they have tomorrow to announce something. Pretty positive it'll be Tuilagi anyway
