Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Roosters are of course an attractive club to begin with, but if you are actually from the Eastern Suburbs, from a mad Roosters supporting family, Roosters were always going to retain him.

If true there is another one to add a massive list of players who have said no thanks. The last few are happy to stay where they are and remain in the que for a first grade job.

Back to the drawing boards for the 100th time

I can't recall a team ever going after so many players and landing none of them. It must be some kind of record.

Have we gone after all of them, or has this forum said we have?

Pom said we’d gone after Butcher and advised us yesterday HSS was staying in Canberra. All the others were also confirmed on here by people in the know too. Players just don’t want to play here.

Egan looks good.

I'm sure the Roosters were able to work out a good deal and keep the brothers together.
That's the easy sell.

Our loss though.
Both probably a part of their plans moving forward.
Both obviously very similar players.

All lock, second rowers... with Connor coming back in as well as Radley, a lot of competition for spots.

If I was Egan, I would've been trying to be a part of a club where I can guarantee start in the 17 at least. Not sure the Roosters can guarantee that.

Must be willing to stay and back himself to make a push.

Assuming Watson plays 14 at full strength...

8 JWH
9 Verills
10 Collins
11 Touponua
12 Angus
13 Radley

14 Watson
15 Taukeiaho
16 Baker
17 One of the Butchers?

Still seem light on props tbh.....

Egan has no guarantee and looks depth, 18th man... where as he'd be in our 17 over here.

Might have not been the best decision however I can see the appeal. Your junior club, chance to play with your brother, etc

The Daily Telegraph has been told Canterbury is right on its salary cap limit for next season.

Rival clubs would want Canterbury to pay around $350,000 a year to take Thompson.

The Bulldogs are open to moving a player or two while they work to reshape their salary cap. Canterbury has one spot open for next season.

if they are right on the salary cap for next year they will go over for sure if they get rep players, or they have to sign someone to fill the roster

Apart from Thompson, they don't really have anyone that they cold offload and get them some real money back.

Gus also said he wants to upgrade Burton, so he needs to find Thompson (or Cotric) sized money somewhere

I think our best chance for recruitment next year is throwing money after November 1 for our targets for 2023 and trying to get them across a year early.

Might be the way to go. Hate to sound negative but our 2022 recruitment has been a disaster

Surely if Thompson was that good they would find a way to keep him.

When you spend like drunken sailors as they have been, this no longer applies.

Drunken sailors? Or roster priorities? Either way, they’re headed for cap trouble and it’s clear they don’t think Thompson is working for them.

Price, judiciary worries and not sure when he wants to return home and not honour the contract would be our main issues

Yep, we lost a reserve grader, now the sky is falling in, give us a break.

These players are happy to take less money and a slim chance at playing footy to remain loyal and we can't entice ANYONE over the age of 20 to sign with us. Our NRL recruitment team is appalling. Worst in the league by a long way.

The sheer arrogance of our recruiters is mind blowing considering how poor we are (becuase theya re)

Have you seen him play? He has a lot of potential and plays lock which is a position of need. Would you rather have Mikaele? He can’t even hold the ball

The big names rejected us..

And now the rookies like Egan and Harley.

Like my man @Milky says,
"Trust the process"

I hope there is a plan.

My correspondence with the CEO last week leads me to believe, the plan is.... we wait.
We wait for cap pressures at other clubs to force decent players to become available or unrest to arise and then we strike, like the Maumalo signing..

Clearly this isn't the BEST plan for some of us fans.
Definitely the slow / long game.
But, alas... trust the process.

Hopefully we land with Lomax type and not... Duran.

Lol before Maumalo the last 2 players we got out of that strategy was Reynolds and Mbye. Stoked for the future….

I suspect the 'non-football' people within the club need to be kept out of recruitment matters.

Gus (love him or not) has alluded to similar recently.

Lol we can’t even resign Mikaele and Seyfarth

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed in our recruitment efforts.

I personally believe they use us to gauge there worth and look around to find that money elsewhere or more. It feels like we are just getting used and need to look at the way we negotiate with player managers.. Maybe so we are interested but we won't get involved until you have looked around and ready to commit.
It's hard been a fan of this club.

no hiding from it. it's been horrendous.

At a guess . . . if we ain't an attractive option, players will resist coming to us. Overs, schmovers.
If you were Egan's, or Smith-Shields's father . . . and your son came to you and said "The Roosters/Raiders are offering me $360k . . . and WT are offering me $400k" . . . where would you suggest your son plays ?
