Luke Thompson is remaining at Belmore for now after rejecting advances from the Cowboys and Wests Tigers to join them next year.

Thompson has been given permission to negotiate with rivals even though he has two more seasons left on his deal with Canterbury.

Despite the interest – including a three-year offer from the Tigers – Thompson has opted to fulfil his commitments with the Bulldogs.

Offer him 4 years to sweeten the deal, he's playing hardball but give him what he wants

Then again at this rate a player has more hope staying at dogs compared to joining tigers or cowboys so can't blame him...

Whoever is doing our recruitment needs to attend some sort of negotiation course. I work in the space and I can’t believe these guys get paid to do what they do. If I was as bad at my job as these guys are I’d be turning tricks to make ends meet.

Thompson does not have to accept our offer and was never expected to, it does my head in how people on this forum act like to world is ending when people decline our offers. It's the nature of the beast, get over it and move on. It's no wonder there is so much dispair when that's the prevailing attitude.

I honestly think we don’t need him, re-sign amone and give him more game time. He hits the line harder then Thompson hits harder in defence then Thompson and is a bucket load cheaper !! Thompson would be a good asset to any club yes I agree but he’s not going to be the game changer we need and to pay big money for him is not a wise choice IMO

agree it is ok to play hard ball but for heaven sake we miss out on every single negotiation.
It is like we are taking a knife to a gunfight every time.
We are stubborn we only pay x when we need to pay y to get a deal done, we will never get anyone except juniors from other clubs.
our only hope is Sheens has his eye on some ESL talent

This ones more complicated he has a year + an option or 2 years at 850k p.a. He has no incentive to leave. Play the two years and then negotiate a new deal at 29. Gus is smart he has told tigers he will pay 450k year 1 knowing he wants the contract off year 2. Why would the player come for an extra year and any less coin. It’s a bad contract Dogs will have to make it two years as he will take his option.
