So just wondering, if we still can’t get any big signings to come, are we still blaming Madge or will it be Sheens?

It’s the clubthat's scary

Agreed and to be honest it has been the club at fault for 10 years.I am not saying there have not been other factors as well but basically it is the way the club has been run.All player negotiations should be done by the football department and nobody else(Lee and Pascoe not invited)

Pascoe’s only involvement should be to ensure the contract fits within the budget and to sign the contract on behalf of Wests Tigers. Otherwise yes Pascoe should stay out of it.

The interesting thing from Lee’s commentary was that that the club and football department need to be more connected so it seems the club wants to be more involved in the football department. Assume that this means the club i.e Pascoe, board were not involved before?

That's scary that they could be more involved.

Yeah i feel same and not sure what the comment really meant ?

It’s pretty simple really. Lee and Pascoe focus on all the corporate requirements etc and were of the belief that the football department can just operate with a coach and head of football and a bunch of funds on its own.
Without realising that the clubs primary business is the football department and the corporate requirements are a supplementary requirement to that.
Whether that means new managers or a change of CEO I’m not sure. But we really need a more football focused business head reporting to either the CEO or the Chairman / Board.

Ah ok. Thought it could have meant Board and CEO were shifting the blame to the football department and absolving themselves. Maybe WT run a different structure whereby the Head of Football (Hartigan) reports to the Board independently of the CEO?

Before the review, the Chairman spoke in terms of seeing the two departments and roles as very separate.

I doubt that Hartigan would report to the chairman I’d say it could be direct to the CEO or it could be to the Football Chair Danny Stapleton. But I tend to see Hartigans role as more of a office role than hands on from the outside in. But I could be wrong.

Of course what I mentioned above is my perception but you only have to look at Lee’s comments regarding Management and how separate he saw their role from the ‘football department’ I’d say through this review the feedback that have received that there should be less blame shifting and more accountability throughout the club.

There’s a bit of a view on here that Pascoe can survive irrespective of football results, I highly doubt that was the vision he sold to get the job. Maybe they are re-aligning his KPI’s.

Our club should take initiative and increase and extend Stefano, Laurie, Simpkin, Blore and bring in the kids to top 30. Move on from Brooks, Liddle, Garner, Tamou and build from now. Give Madge the next two seasons to bring things together and recruit next year.

Veterans on 1-2 year deals would be wise Tariq Sims and or young players looking for opportunity. The club has to be truthful and rebuild this side won’t make the finals and I don’t want them trying to buy a side that can do it in the short term. It’s the wrong way we will suck for a few years but they have to make it happen.

Young players like that aren’t stupid, why would you re sign

Cash no one else can offer as they are under contract. Agents get a higher commission. You shouldn’t lose any players you want to keep especially the young ones.

I think the chance for big signings are over, we missed them all, there isn't anyone exciting left available as far as I understand?

Or do you mean 2023

I think the only big signing that was missed was Matt Burton, he has a big future ahead of him. And he reportedly only went to Dogs to follow Barrett. Not to many others signed up for other clubs this year that would be considered big signings that would've justified their huge salaries IMO.

I have asked you the question in one of your other posts but I’ll ask again just who is good enough for WTs

I hope Madge has had his holiday at Fraser Island and is ready to go out and secure some players , I hope we don’t stuff around till any talent is gone and we are left with the cheap 2 nd graders , we will improve with a few additions
Peachy , Scott , Sims , Big Marty , I would be on the phone today going hard for all 4 , I have no idea what they would cost but if we have 1.5 to 2 mill we have them covered and a bit left to top up a few keepers we already have , I would also be looking to add 2 more years to Stef , , Blore , Diane , now , lock them up

Why is pascoe jumping on plans to meet tpj.? He's a wannabe and can't help himself. We need a stronger COE think that ex afl leader would do wonders.

Looks like pascoe has set himself up where he is untouchable.

Isn't it time for change the fans think so

Im not sold on Burton being a future star .. there is just something about him that doesnt sit well. Yes he looks ok in this current Penriff side, but so do most players including Eisenhuth. Burton at this stage of his career is putting 110% every week by going 100 miles an hour at everything and throwing his body into every tackle .. this is what most new comers call .. I must impress syndrome .. !!

Yes you want you players playing at 110% if they can .. but there are a lot wise players out there who will play at their hardest when the time is required .. poor young Burton is gonna bust himself playing for a less stronger team like the Dogs next season and wont look half as energised or good as he does now.

It's like a lot of Melbourne players take them out of the Storm team and dont look half as good. So i hope im wrong and Burton goes on to prove me wrong .. but good luck to the kid.

Burton has all the skills the only thing that I can see holding him back is if his head gets in the way of the expectations placed on him. Bulldogs fans can be unforgiving. Having Gould watching ovet his development in a new system will be a great transition for him

I think we’ll either re-sign Roberts or sign Curtis Scott. Not sure which I’d prefer.

Curtis Scott is my preferred option by a very long way.

There just isnt anyone on the market anymore... the people that say we missed out on:

McGinnes - really wanted to play 9 , not 13.
Finucane - we just didn't want to sign him on for 4 years
Hynes - we have a fullback of Laurie and halves of Douhie, Brooksy
Burton - we have halves of Douhie, Brooksy
Pangai - didn't want to come here in the end

The only position we really need is a Centre IMHO, that person is Lomax, but as people said he is signed with the Dragons for awhile - hopefully dragons cut him loose..

Justin olam is off contract end of next season...

Would be 28

He is the best centre in game atm imho

And the second most famous person in PNG other than the PM - great story out about him today.

No doubt the club has already been in touch with player agents to see who's available. Read a while ago Sheens was involved in this. Now Madge's immediate future has been sorted, I'd expect at least some of these discussions to result in new signings. Sims, Elliot and Scott might all be decent pickups at the right price. Sims, apparently has no agent and conducts his own contract negotiations. Sounds like the kind of guy we need.
