Does seem like overs for Luciano, not sure what his current deal was, unless the extension is to compensate for the lower deal he was already on. For that money though you would be expecting more improvement in his game especially defence.

People wanted Hartigan gone - now expect to pay overs for average players moving forward.

Like BJ?

Pretty sure everyone wanted BJ at the time. Coach just couldn't get him playing well

So, no onus on the player to perform, it’s all on the coach, is it?

I realise you are still cheesed of that your “sack Madge” campaign didn’t work out, but you need to be realistic, players need to own there own performances.

In my opinion, Lucy is pretty similar to Kikau. Pretty damaging at best but a combination of poor on-field discipline, poor decision making and arm grabbing defence makes me wonder whether he’s worth it. 450k max for mine. Would prefer to see Blore/Tuilagi second row starters from 2023, Lucy to bench if he will cop that

I'm not sure I ever had a campaign, more that I think he's not a very good coach (as evidenced by poor results and the club trying to replace him). I'm not sure why you get so upset whenever anyone says anything negative about him?

I'm more confident going into next year than I was this year. It's a relief knowing that Madge no longer has unfettered powers and will need to answer to someone.

I would give him $3m for 3 years and tax him $10K for every try he lets in.

We would have another $1m to spend on the salary cap each each and he would be paying for free.

DT just grab stories from their backsides.

I have no idea why people read the DT

Maybe is just for the comics and crosswords (hahaha that's probably what the sports pages are now - comics and crosswords)

They keep their copy of the Telecrap next to their copies if Grimm's and Hans Christian Anderson.

Jamayne Taunoa-Brown released from the final year of his Warriors contract to take up long term with another club. Interesting to see which club that will be 🤔

was wondering what happened to adam elliot? apparently he snubbed our offer?

From what I understand, his decision centred around him getting off the turps. He has family in Canberra that he will live with to help him. This one wasn’t about us stuffing the deal or him snubbing us. He realised this is his last chance to resurrect a career derailed by alcohol fuelled incidents.

Going to Canberra doesn't take you away from drinking culture. But can understand if he thinks moving from Sydney would be a solution

As stated, he has family in Canberra that he is going to live with to help him.

Still don't think Canberra is a solution to a drinking problem

The only chance of success is to be where his support networks are.

And re Heilum Luki, he would still be required to quarantine for 2 weeks upon returning to QLD under the current restrictions.

Hodgson will be 32 but his game has never been about speed. Many players, even Farah, depend a lot on speed and so couldn't play to the same level when they got older. Others who play with craft sometimes even get better at this age. You can't just say he's 32 so he's rubbish.

Examples:
Cameron Smith played another excellent five years after turning 32.
Cooper Cronk was another who seemed to get better.
Cliffy Lyons was another, Jason Smith also played well in his mid 30s.
Ben Kennedy helped change the culture of Manly when he joined them in his early 30s.
Luke Lewis was in great form throughout his 30s.
Alfie Langer too.

Hodgson is the exact sort of player who should be able to maintain good form for at least a couple years. His game is quality passing, good direction, competitiveness and craft. I think he's a great player for us to have a go on. If it doesn't work out I don't see it being that big a deal. Hate the negativity around every move we make.

If he didn't work out it would be a disaster.

Eg. Game 3 next year - he does his ACL again,

Oh! no problem put Liddle in there, unfortunately we let him go, because we put faith in an old man.

Not to worry we can bring up Simpkin, unfortunately he won't be ready for another 2 years if ever.

Now your talking - we can play the Peach.

Oh! God, unfortunately I can see this happening.

Yeah, if he gets a season ending injury he'll obviously not be very valuable to us. I think we're talking about whether he can still play or not.

If we're ruling out any player who can potentially get injured, or has had injuries in the past, we're going to struggle.

Also, we haven't even signed him and you're assuming we've not only signed him but also releasing Liddle and forecasting this all being a bad move because he's going to get an ACL early next year.

The Forum in it's majority has him signed. sealed and delivered as they do with most players that someone says "he'd be good" only to get raked off when the club don't get the player.

I am advocating NOT signing him, not moving Liddle on, letting Simpkin stay in reserves to learn his craft hopefully, I have not seen the potential a lot have seen apparently.

However to go, with eyes wide open to sign a cotcase is not my idea of good recruitment. DH is a crucial spot to be missing someone because of injury (if it happens). I am not talking about a player getting injured - I am talking about a player that is 32 and has had 3 ACL injuries.

Posters on here have spent most of the season applauding the fact that we are not now a club that is signing players seeking a retirement fund or are injury prone - obviously thay make exceptions when it suits them.

Yeah well that’s your opinion mate but Liddle has had plenty of time too shine , at 26 he should be at the top of his game , I doubt whether Simpkln or Liddle will be hanging around either if Hodgson is signing

No - only the ones that believe the Telecrap fairy stories.

if Lucy wants 750k then yes let him go

I hope we get the Hodgson deal done asap so we can move on to filling the last few spots - my preference is Centre and prop. With Luc, Blore, Tuilagi, Garner all available as edge players, i think a genuine starting partner for Uto is what we need. I’m talking a no nonsense consistent hard hitting and running prop that puts some fear into the opposition- we need an angry dude to lead the way on field. With Hodgson directing things and the pack I’m hoping for, we might just start getting somewhere.
As for a centre - Scott may be the only potential option- i wonder if there is any real hope/interest in him coming to us?

Quick Update:

The club has a 2 year deal on the table for Hodgson ready to go, his deal with Raiders for 2022 is worth around 650k. We are willing to pay 350k-400k with Raiders chipping in the rest, his deal for 2023 is for 550-600k. His management have discussed a 3rd year but that will preferably be a club option at most.

Luciano will get his upgrade for 2022 but no where near the reported $$. A 3 year ext has also been in discussions for sometime, expect the deal to be done, with his upgrade & ex the averaged out annual salary will be closer to 575k a season.

Hartigan's departure has thrown recruitment into a bit of a tail spin but will has been on track the last couple days, as things do tend to happen when you lift the rug after someone leaves things are looking great in his favour, mainly from local junior side of the club, but many found it difficult to get a straight answer from him & then took the liberty of making some decisions without prior consult with management or coach, like nearly offering a deal to Chee Kam.

Coaching support staff I believe will be announced this week, with Nathan Cayless & Ben Gardiner to be assistants. Ryan Carr was very close but Gardiner's rapport with his players got him over the line.

Backrow & Centre are the clubs main priority with it's few remaining spots, there has been no official discussion about letting Liddle go. Madge has spoken to both Jake & Jacob of the pending arrival for Hodgson.
Luke Garner going to Manly doesn't seem to be going away, but can't see it happening unless we need a roster spot for a better target.

Thanks @THE_POM . Any news regarding upgrades and extensions for Stefano or Daine?

Sorry forgot to add that part, Nothing on Daine as yet, but Stefano is currently in the process of being upgraded for next year & an extra 2 years on top of current deal. This should be sorted over the off-season.

That is amazing news

Hopefully DL next

Yet it didn't seem to occur to the Recruitment gurus .....

Did it occur to you, that the genius journalists may have had the same thought that you did and play it up?

Difference probably being that some of us were concerned before we recruited LL ..when it was 1st mooted he might come here ......

Don't throw some of us with the Journo's ...Kent's at least played the game to a reasonably high level ...Read knows jack about the game and didn't play it ......

Sure,,.......my point is its a pretty easy angle that the brother might crack it after BJ's departure. Was only a matter of time before there was a LL article.

Is it even fact ...has Lucy said he wants out

I would like to see us still go after Helium Luki from the Cowboys.
Big boy at 6’5 and quick for 103kg with a few kilos of muscle still to go onto his frame.

He is young and has a go and we could team him with Blore, Seyfarth, Tuki for a few years to come.Investing in youth is the way to go.

He is a hitter aye.
Would compliment our pack perfectly.

We can make him an offer Nov 1. @tigerballs has stated in the past he is on our radar

Heilum Luki is waiting until after lockdown to visit WT. We’ve offered more than Cowboys, only family will stop him signing. He’s definitely a massive chance.

That's what was said in a recent chat....

Well there's no restrictions so presumably he's here now then?

Pretty heavy restrictions on Queenslanders travelling to NSW/Sydney still.

Actually, no there aren't. People can freely travel to Sydney from Queensland with no restrictions at all. He may need to isolate at home for 14 days upon his return, but that's it.

Considering this would be a life changing move from him you'd think he'd do what's necessary to sort out his family's future.
