Thats a team heading towards plodderdom

That is a fairly brutal list....actually, it is very brutal.

Brenko Lee could well be a Premiership winner..

He is a classic ""geez he excelled under Bellamy...why is he struggling in our state cup team" type of signing for any club though.

He deadset bombed 4 tries and nearly the one he scored last week

Is there a reason Albert Hopoate is off contract next year? Is he just not that good? I thought there were big wraps on him coming through...

Hasn’t impressed whatsoever and I doubt anyone would want him with John Hopoate being his dad...

11 Penrith players on the market come November including some great young prospects like Burton, Crichton, Leniu, Hetherington, Luai, Naden as well as Yeo.

They’ll have to lose a couple, they’ll keep all the big guns like Crichton, Luai but there’s some good options to sign out of that lot.

If we want a fullback than I would enter the race to get Suaalii’s signature.
This kid is special talent. You just need to look what benefit Knights got from identifying Kalyn Ponga early.

He is a Souths kid....

And the Wallabies...and Roosters want him...

The hottest prospect in either code....

Honestly, we would be zero chance of his manager even taking a call. Don't want to sound negative....but there is no way. We could offer double and still not get a meeting.

Preposterous. Money talks and he'd be a mug not to engage all legitimate parties.

What a stupid stupid comment you've made at the end there. Sorry, just stupid comments that players wouldn't engage Tigers at any cost.

We have signed NO current NSW or Kangaroo players ever in their prime. None. When was the last time any of us read "Current Kangaroo joins Wests Tigers".

Why? If money talks, we would have landed someone by now. Reality is most see us a bad option. When we land two current Kangaroos you can raise my comments again...I hope it is soon.

Not being negative...I just don't think players see us like they see other clubs. Even Canterbury, no matter how low, have always been able to sign rep players.

We signed an Origin player just 2 years ago - Moses Mbye. He played 3 Origins half a season after joining us. James Tamou is both an Origin and Kangaroo rep. Benji Marshall was NZ captain and played rep football after we signed him for a second time. Adam Blair was NZ rep and Gareth Ellis was a guaranteed England rep. Blah blah.

But if you want to be technical and say only "current" Australian rep players, being pedantic and excluding all Pacifica players and Kiwis, well if JAC signs then you have it.

Because I'll give you an interesting stat: of the 34 players that contested Origin III in 2019, 53% (18/34) have only ever played for one first grade club. Of the remaining 16 players, 10 of those (62.5%) have only ever played for 2 teams. And of those 10, 50% were not rep players when they were signed up by their second club.

From that sample it is clear that there is very little trading done in AUSTRALIAN rep-level players, and if it does occur, it's very common to be a single trade, i.e. moving to one club.

"When we land two current Kangaroos you can raise my comments again". You must be high to think teams go around signing on 2 current Kangaroos. Not even Roosters are doing that - future Kangaroos perhaps, but not multiple current ones.

Anyway you were talking about Suaalii who has done diddly squat in rugby league and my post was specifically in reference to that.

You are being negative, you are assuming to understand how players view Tigers, and I assume you haven't spoken to a single player about the topic (but please enlighten us if you have). We land lots of players all the time and many of them have rep experience. The issue for Tigers is not landing big-name players, the issue is getting maximum consistent performance out of a balanced side.

2 cases in point: Newcastle landed several "big name" players recently. Ponga was just a kid and a calculated risk, so he technically does not count as a "current rep player". Mitchell Pearce was not selected for Origin the year he signed for Newcastle. Klemmer was in Origin. Tim Glasby played Origin too though nobody trumpets that much.

Good for Newcastle, landing these "big fish", sum total output was to finish 11th in both 2018-2019, then make the finals and bomb out first go 2020. That is not a rousing case study the "signing of rep players" to be a cornerstone of your roster strategy.

Titans 2021 will also be a real test given the big-name talent they've landed - we can judge that in a year. However, Gold Coast already have some history of signing rep-level players and it has not resulted in any consistent success. In fact lots of those rep signings turned out rather poorly (here is a list, not all were poor): Jai Arrow, Dan Sargison, Tyrone Peachey, Shannon Boyd, Kallum Watkins, Jarrod Wallace, Koni Jurrell, Chris McQueen, Agnatius Paasi, David Shillington.

I received some intel from a player going back to the Jason Taylor days. The bloke is not a Tiger anymore,
But his dad is a legend of the club. His complaints were along the lines of, we’re paying for our own accommodation, the club offered us rooms in this dump down the road. Our pay sometimes doesn’t go in on time and our gym is a joke. If he’s talking to some random in a pub you can bet the other NRL players know those stories. It takes time to shake that sort of reputation; even if the club is on the improve.

Sour grapes that they were let go
I believe the player you talk of went to a club who had more issues with payments to players and the coach had to take his own chairs into work
That was what I read anyway

We all here and read information
How much is true and how much is exaggerated

What I do know is that posting stories like this will not benefit our club

This all happened under an old Tigers regime so I won’t hang it on Pascoe and co but I’m reluctant to just excuse it or simply call it a disgruntled players exaggeration. This happened while the player was still a Tiger and it explains to me in part why we can’t attract marquee players, clearly we aren’t a destination club as much as the club is trying to change that. No harm intended here, someone asked for examples from players and I provided one. I want nothing more than to see a JAC signing to prove that the tables are finally turning. Hopefully Pascoe’s mobile is running hot even though he is on leave this week.

Was thinking today that Hetherington makes sense for us
Could be the reason we haven't re signed Sam McIntyre yet
We get a better player
Penrith gets a cheaper back up

I think the best approach is to treat comments like the ones you heard exactly as players being upset because they weren't good enough. I spoke to some players a while back. One of them was young Dylan Smith. He told me that it was a cut throat business. Players have to perform and they are going to get disgruntled. This is the big show.

They are pretty equal in ability but Hetherington will give away about 3 penalties a game. We already have poor discipline without adding him to the equation.

This was around the time the club was borrowing money from the NRL and then Anasta came out publically with similar claims. Point is we are trying to shake off a reputation that has some substance.

Hetherington's main asset is his aggression. He isn't a better defender than Mac, Mac had some bad luck with head knocks this season but he showed a bit of promise in his time on the paddock. Worth persevering with for a year or 2: see how he develops.

Needs to work on making metres. Doesn’t have size on his size so needs to find another way to get us up the park

Some players aren't metre eaters though. Some are just the defensive glue ala Dallas Johnson. Maybe give Mac a trade deal with the Sharks next year so he can get on some Gallen juice to roid up a bit.

Curtis really shouldn't be saying that stuff to the public though.

But the WT have been run by a boys club for too long now, creating a poor culture of sooks and dummy spitters.

At least now we've got money and are building a new culture

Hetherington is currently a long way ahead of McIntyre. He's small for a forward and needs to bulk up a bit more. Needs to make better metres and work on his defensive technique. While he's a strong defender he had what 3-4 head knocks this season. Gets his head into awkward positions, though one was from a ruthless Panthers player. Heading into Liam Fulton territory. A lot of potential though.

The club is far more profitable and commercial sustainable these days. Plus with the backing of a rich club like Ashfield. And a coe being built for us. I don't think players have to bring their own Gatorade or tape anymore

He had the opportunity to tell Marshall he was cut prior to the leak and asked for another 24 hours to think about it.
The leak happened after that most likely Marshall or his Manager, at least he made the hard decision.

He’s in a tough position, he knows he needs a stronger playing group but trying to build belief in the group he has. Give him time to get a team he can truly call his own. It’s not his fault we have an image problem.
