Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Really looking at all their top teams all their locks best skills are making metres and doing the tough stuff. Pretty much all the top 8 teams have locks who are big units who tackle and run hard

Obviously they need to be able to throw a pass but we don’t HAVE to have some small lock who is a ball player

Comparing McTyre, Seyfarth and Twal on those metrics (tackle and run hard)

All 3 can tackle - around 92-5% for effective tackle%. Very high

But only Twal is making decent runs averaging around 100m per game in 2020.
Sam averages 54m
Alex 39m

Radley averaged in 2020 90% tackle effectiveness and almost 120m.
Murray averaged in 2020 93% and 104m.

However, in terms of ball playing lock:
Murray - 30 offloads, 6 linebreak assists, 4 try assists
Twal - 0 offloads, 0 linebreak assists, 0 try assists

How would you describe Radley/Murray?
Compared to third props Twal, Nelson, etc

Murray’s best attribute is his running game. Radleys is his defence. Sure they pass every so often but that’s not their main job.

Locks need to get you up the field and tackle hard more than anything. Any of our forwards can throw a simple pass to our halves to create a bit more width.

I think the main attribute is defence. They need to lock up that middle third but as we have seen with Alex Twal who has is excellent defensively but struggles to be a threat in attack - affecting both our options and go forward. A great lock possess a strong running and passing game with the ability to offload.

Taumololo is the mould you want to build from.

The last great ball playing lock was ET when he first came across from Penrith. Great link man for the halves. Already miss him.

A very whole hearted player. Solid defensively, good passing game but missed an effective running game. He was often dominated in tackles and rarely put us in the front foot.

Twal often has opportunity to offload and seemingly chooses not too. Offloading is such a strong weapon and we don’t do enough of it, but we need our halves and fullback following our big men in case they happen. That’s why JAC would be so good, it’s something Paps and teddy are excellent at

Brent NADEN appears to be on the outer at Pamfers looks likely he won't make the bench for the GF

Decent player. Speed to burn but has defensive issues.

Doesn't strike me as the sharpest tool in the shed.

Don’t have to be smart to be good at footy ? look at some the ex players on commentary lol

haha true true! I thought it might explain his defensive reads.

I've said a few times, I think Talau could be coached into a good ball playing lock.

Played five eighth growing up. Is the same size if not bigger thank Radley and Murray. Apparently loves hard work.

Hes Need a big preseason on defence.

Interesting idea. From what I have seen, he doesn’t have the necessary pace for backline and from his younger days is probably a little wasted on the wing with his ball playing ability. I have been a little underwhelmed at times with some of his carries as he doesn’t seem to be able to get the post contact metres but this was his rookie year so may be more of a development thing.

I’d imagine looking at his Dad, he still has some growing to do so may end up not being so small. Definitely needs to work on his lateral movement and fitness although he has a reasonable tackling technique.

He's probably still a year away from playing lock or second row. You don't just go from wing to lock. You need to put on some kilos...

if there’s anything this year taught us it’s that the Radley’s and Murray’s of the league are the ideal 13 moving forward,

I don't agree with that at all. Lock is a flexible position that you use to balance your team. I would rather have Taumalolo or Jake Trbojevic at the Tigers than Radley or Murray, but I would be happy with any of them.

It is better to have a well balanced pack with some giants, some mobile players and some aggressive ones.

Victor Radley, Jake Trbojevic, Isaac Liu all take some responsibility for deciding the point of attack and distributing the ball to a forward or half and do it a few times each set. Different team use different attacking structures.

Talau has demonstrated that he is a good finisher when put into a little space. He needs to work in the off season with a professional sprint coach and improve his lateral movement. Being able to defend in the centres is the no 1 priority. Being able to hit a gap at pace and set your winger up is the next priority. Good ball skills and being aware of those around you is another. He is a centre but ended up on the wing due to lack of quality in that position. He did well. I'd like to see him paired with a really pacey winger and then you will see a different player. He has a great future at WTs which is why the Storm chased him.

I don't agree with your posts very often but that is a really well argued point of view and I agree.

Talau is a fine young talent which no doubt the Club recognises.

He would be scary at the storm system

Was just having a chat to McIntyre about doing a Q&A on my page. Got told he’s unavailable because he’s trying to re-sign

Awesome news

Perhaps you could snag maybe madden or Seyfarth, maybe even Simpkin

Yes interesting idea. Not sure why there are so many comments about Talau’s lack of pace or ability to step? In his first few games their was no doubt about his running ability. I’m thinking he has been carrying an injury?

Our main man..mbye

Where the he'll does he fit on the team next year

If BJ doesn’t have a 360 change in attitude and doesn’t lay of the Big Macs then Mbye would play center. If BJ does have a massive season then Mbye is your utility that comes on from the bench. I’m assuming JAC is playing fullback.

1. JAC
2. Nofa
3. Talau
4. BJ/Mbye
5. AJ
6. AD
7. Brooks

McIntyre re-signing news incoming.

Looks like he just signed with a new management company too. Maybe that was the hold up? Hopefully an announcement soon if true.

Yep definitely was the hold up

Considering he’s with them now officially I’m assuming a deal with WT is very close or done like you said. Really handy little player

Just seen your comment on his recent post ahah Surely tigers announcing it soon
