The Mole: Mitchell Pearce return to Sydney Roosters gradually falling into place
By The Mole

The dominoes are slowly but surely falling into place for Mitchell Pearce to make a return to the Sydney Roosters in 2021.

Pearce played 11 seasons and more than 200 games at the Roosters before moving to the Knights in 2018. Forced out by Cooper Cronk's signing, the 31-year-old appeared destined to finish his career in Newcastle.

But Kyle Flanagan's indifferent year at the Roosters, coupled with the Knights' poor finish to the season, started the ball rolling for a shock game of halfback musical chairs.

The Roosters told Flanagan that he was free to leave and he has joined Canterbury.

In the meantime, the Knights have been linked with both English ace Gareth Widdop and Eels playmaker Mitchell Moses.

Add to that the possibility of Pearce being asked to take a pay cut at the Knights and the fact he misses his family in Sydney, and it's just a question of whether the Roosters can negotiate a release and still stay under the salary cap.

Stay tuned for further developments.

Bring Mitch home.?

He was supposedly returning home with Parra but appears to be going peared shape somehow I dont think he would be welcomed back to WT'S

Mitch Moses 7
Brooks 6
AD centres
Nicholas Hynes fullback
🙂

He would strengthen our team and is one of ours.

What's people's thoughts on Billy Magoulias as a ball-playing lock and does anyone know why didn't he play more games?

From little I saw of him he looked talented,I thought 2020 would of been his breakout year
Yes from me

He is not rated at the Sharks. He was viewed by some as Gallen's successor, but that hasn't happened. They've been weak in the forwrds this year and he hasn't been used.

No to Moses and I think Brooks should be on thin ice next season.

only stiring with moses really but agree with some maybe Hynes is a target

I really dont rate Hynes and I think if he leaves the Storm system he will be shown to be a nuffy.

It’s funny that many are make or break on JAC.

Scoring points wasn’t an issue this year, preventing them was our biggest issue which is managed through the forwards/halves and fullbacks.

JAC isn’t a fullback. I would prefer to spend the money on a rising fullback and half over JAC.

Next year we aren’t going to be a contender and 2022 at this stage we won’t either depending if we can snare some awesome signings which lets face it is doubtful.

Will it suck missing JAC if we do yeah but tbh I think we need the money spent on other positions more than on JAC.

probably because we will miss benjis attack .....his defence however is a different matter we will struggle for points

The dogs just offer players 100k+ more than they are worth, we have come out and said we will not be paying overs anymore which will shoot us in the foot a couple times.

Because we have been burnt in the past... We just need to pick better and we have the staff now to do this unlike Cleary's recruitment.
need to get the first one over the line and if that means an extra 100k then so be it... Make it happen

It is not just that. Barret is "a player's coach". The Turbo bros love him and player's talk. A lot of coaches like Cleary and Barret treat each player differently.

Madge is one way...10000% and intense.

That works for Bellamy as you get grand finals and glory.

But not many people want that intensity. Madge will only attract a certain type of player...and that means we need to be patient. LL, AD want Madge's style, but not everyone does. Bennet gives blokes a week off...everyone is his best mate...

Do you know any of this to be true directly, or all hearsay? I'm not a fan of making grand statements about the personalities of people you've never met, nor even had second-hand information about.

Benji said it on 360.....I am presuming he knows what he is talking about.

"From a guy like Madge (Maguire) who only knows one way of, 'we're going to train as hard as we can, we're going to get as fit as we can and it doesn't matter what it takes to get to that, we're going to build mental toughness'... and I really enjoyed that," the New Zealand star added.
**"But I think what's happened now is the generation has changed where I think the kids are a little bit different these days where individually people need different types of training, or different types of understanding.
"Some people don't handle tough love, and understanding that is probably the biggest challenge that Madge is going to have for next year."**

That's just one opinion. Harry Grant gave a different opinion. It's interesting because Harry Grant came from the Storm and Benji has been cut by the coach he is now critiquing.

What I would say, fine, quote Benji Marshall's opinion, but your original post stated that position as if it was fact - "Madge is one way, 10000% and intense". It may well be that Benji's relationship with Madge is not the same as for all other players.

And then you posted a number of generalised summaries about the other coaches - Barrett is a "players coach", Bellamy is like Madge but more successful,

t is not just that. Barret is "a player's coach". The Turbo bros love him and player's talk. A lot of coaches like Cleary and Barret treat each player differently. Bennett is your "best mate". Madge will only attract certain types of players. All very assumptive.

Assumptive, perhaps.

But also based on a long time following the game. Dozens of players have made those comments re Bennet.

I do think Bellamy is indeed like a more successful version of Madge though...and that is a good thing.

Agreed re Grant...he is the type of player we need / who thrives under Madge. AD is also.

The problem is, most modern players are not like that (as Benji stated). That is what makes recruitment so hard...and is something the storm excel in. They never recruit soft players.

I did hear a left field rumour that the Mitches may swap clubs. Certainly there was some heat to the Moses to Newcastle part.

That was doing the rounds a little while ago but it may have been impacted by the Flanagan - > Dogs and Clifford (requested) release from North Queensland. Knights may want to free up some cash with Clifford in place of Pearce and leave the flat track bully at Parra...

What gets me is Barrett signs with dogs and already he had signed more than what we have, I sometimes wonder if we really are trying ores just go throw the motions . Iam just frustrated with are lack of class signings

Cotric is their only decent signing who I would’ve liked at the club but we might get JAC instead. They signed Waddell whos meh, Flanagan is okay but we can’t afford more halves at the moment and Blake Green who is awful

It’s frustrating that there seems to be a lack of movement in that regard but we are a chance at JAC, signed Stefano and Tamou, signed AJ mid season and still have some spots left. They are being very particular about who they sign and for what cost so it will be slow at times but that doesn’t mean nothing is happening.

This year and next year we don’t have a heap of options for big signings. JAC is the best available and we are a good shot at getting him. 2022 is the year to go for more big names

It's because Bulldogs have nothing doing with their existing roster and have the cap space to offer deals to many available players.

Barrett didn't sign Cotric, right, Bulldogs already had that done mid-season. High profile but very high cost. Barrett then signed Blake Green (done his ACL and might retire), Jack Hetherington (high risk but maybe high reward), then Corey Waddell.

Flanagan is an opportunity signing only, like Tigers did last off-season. He will not be the last significant trade before Season 2021 kicks off. In that respect, we've only just started on the final round of player movements and it's too early to call any one clubs' efforts good or bad.

But frankly Bulldogs haven't done much in recruitment so far, so I think it's a weak comparison. Bulldogs do need halves, but I made the point earlier that if Flanagan can't kick on with the Roosters roster, how is he going to do better at the Bulldogs?

edit: just read Josh's post basically the same feedback.

Most of the players we let go are on minimum wage at best, frees up space yes but doesn’t just automatically give us $2mil to spend

2022 will be the big spending year when the dud army comes off contract

Seems its not just the young players that need special attention and lots of hugs. Looks more like Benji didnt get enough love and is having a shot at the guy who got rid of him.

Glad he is gone, cant move on with players like that.

Mate if you think Maguire is the saviour you’re kidding.
Look at his last 4 years as an nrl coach unable to get a team into the 4 took a team that finished 9th in 18 and 19 to 11th in 2020. It seems he will not adapt to modern day football,he’s inability to adapt and listen is why he had a player revolt at Souths. He’s record last 4 seasons is poor

A lot of people have said the same thing about Saviours, they don't believe in them until they are not there anymore.

I thought better of you Goanna to not fall into the trap of looking at figures instead of the real picture. You know why we haven't got into the top four as well as most of us. A below average team for past two years, a totally overspent cap to contend with, a few precious players who do not want to work for there payments and a bad culture that needs changing. It is a slow process which impatient people do not want to be part of - they want a magic wand for Madge to wave and suddenly we are in the GF. It doesn't work that way and I would have thought you of all people would realise this. I know we all would like to flick our fingers and presto there we are but it took many years to dig the hole we are in and it is far to deep to jump out of - we have to cut steps and slowly climb out.....Madge is cutting those steps!

As for the player revolt at Souffs - don't think so. He was whiteanted out of that club because Seibold wanted his job. The next year he did not coach, so hardly would be able to get a team in a four.

It is some of the players in our team that will not adapt (not Madge) and he is slowly getting rid of the dead wood, unfortunately we had enough of that, to build a small boat. The Scumbag from the Pamfers did a lot of damage and it won't be fixed overnight.

Give him a go Mate - May not be the Saviour but he is not a "very naughty Boy" either - just a good coach.

Russell you make many good points but what concerns me is that he brought in 6 of his own players this season and yet we went backwards. As for his time at south’s it is well known in football circles that players spoke to him about being flogged at training. But I’m happy to give him next season and I hope we can improve I want the club to be successful
