Russell you make many good points but what concerns me is that he brought in 6 of his own players this season and yet we went backwards. As for his time at south’s it is well known in football circles that players spoke to him about being flogged at training. But I’m happy to give him next season and I hope we can improve I want the club to be successful

He bought and extended cheap players because there was very little salary cap and you need 30 players in the squad. That is a very important point that you are conveniently ignoring.

EXCLUSIVE: How Cameron Smith retirement delay risks derailing Storm
By Brett Graham

As the Cameron Smith retirement speculation drags on, the Melbourne skipper is being urged to make a decision one way or the other, for the sake of the club's future.

Smith has spent the last few months insisting he has no idea if he wants to play on or not, and didn't clarify the situation after Sunday's grand final win over Penrith.

Presumably confirmation either way will come in the coming weeks, before the Melbourne squad returns for pre-season training.

Smith is releasing an autobiography next month, which some have suggested is a sign he'll hang up the boots.

Smith's 2021 plans will directly impact at least two players, with Brandon Smith and Dally M Rookie of the Year Harry Grant both eyeing off the number nine jumper on a permanent basis. If Smith decides to play on, it's expected at least one of the New Zealand Test star or Grant would look elsewhere. Grant was loaned to the Tigers in 2020, but has insisted he'll be returning to Melbourne next season.

Leading sports journalist, and former Wallaby, Peter FitzSimons, argues that Smith needs to make the decision sooner rather than later.

"You've been a great servant of the past, and you've been a great servant of the present, you're the grand final winning captain, to be a servant of the future you need to make a call," he told Wide World of Sports' Five Minutes with Fitzy.

"They're (Melbourne) trying to sort themselves out.

got to love how this article was titled 'EXCLUSIVE' and all it has is Peter FitxSimons quoting "they're trying to sort themselves out".

It’s funny that many are make or break on JAC.

Scoring points wasn’t an issue this year, preventing them was our biggest issue which is managed through the forwards/halves and fullbacks.

JAC isn’t a fullback. I would prefer to spend the money on a rising fullback and half over JAC.

Next year we aren’t going to be a contender and 2022 at this stage we won’t either depending if we can snare some awesome signings which lets face it is doubtful.

Will it suck missing JAC if we do yeah but tbh I think we need the money spent on other positions more than on JAC.

probably because we will miss benjis attack .....his defence however is a different matter we will struggle for points

I think maybe we could score more (edit) points.

What 24 plus in a game isn't enough .....or are you talking 2021

What gets me is Barrett signs with dogs and already he had signed more than what we have, I sometimes wonder if we really are trying ores just go throw the motions . Iam just frustrated with are lack of class signings

I believe that the Wests group are exactly doing that .. having a team in the competition and just going through the motions .
Just keeping financial so that there is no burden on the group .. no one will tell me there is any desire from the board to be successful the feeling of mediocrity is rife at the club ,the constant non achievement has not in any respect been addressed hence what nearly a decade of non achievement.. if an entity wants to change the culture they enact systems to achieve this . I do not blame the football department they can only work with what there given , and to that end it seems not much ! Hence why other clubs are on the up and the Tigers just make up the numbers ... someone prove me wrong .

The Mole: Mitchell Pearce return to Sydney Roosters gradually falling into place
By The Mole

The dominoes are slowly but surely falling into place for Mitchell Pearce to make a return to the Sydney Roosters in 2021.

Pearce played 11 seasons and more than 200 games at the Roosters before moving to the Knights in 2018. Forced out by Cooper Cronk's signing, the 31-year-old appeared destined to finish his career in Newcastle.

But Kyle Flanagan's indifferent year at the Roosters, coupled with the Knights' poor finish to the season, started the ball rolling for a shock game of halfback musical chairs.

The Roosters told Flanagan that he was free to leave and he has joined Canterbury.

In the meantime, the Knights have been linked with both English ace Gareth Widdop and Eels playmaker Mitchell Moses.

Add to that the possibility of Pearce being asked to take a pay cut at the Knights and the fact he misses his family in Sydney, and it's just a question of whether the Roosters can negotiate a release and still stay under the salary cap.

Stay tuned for further developments.

Bring Mitch home.?

He was supposedly returning home with Parra but appears to be going peared shape somehow I dont think he would be welcomed back to WT'S

Mitch Moses 7
Brooks 6
AD centres
Nicholas Hynes fullback
🙂

Anyone who threw a game playing for us should never be discussed as a player to get.

I agree onthe main problem - defence but feel JAC would be a great boost to confidence and the mentality of the team.

The mentality of the team and the mental health of the fanbase.

No to Moses and I think Brooks should be on thin ice next season.
Preform or perish.

Thing is that Brooks needs Moses, they play well together.

But no chance at all he comes back here, no chance at all he leaves Parra

The average over the 6 players was very cheap.

People that want to stab everyone in the back when their team does not win every game are very dangerous for a club. It is often used in the media and ends up sounding like the fans are calling for someone's head. You post quarter truths in the hopes of convincing others to join you in tearing everything down.

The dogs just offer players 100k+ more than they are worth, we have come out and said we will not be paying overs anymore which will shoot us in the foot a couple times.

Because we have been burnt in the past... We just need to pick better and we have the staff now to do this unlike Cleary's recruitment.
need to get the first one over the line and if that means an extra 100k then so be it... Make it happen

It is not just that. Barret is "a player's coach". The Turbo bros love him and player's talk. A lot of coaches like Cleary and Barret treat each player differently.

Madge is one way...10000% and intense.

That works for Bellamy as you get grand finals and glory.

But not many people want that intensity. Madge will only attract a certain type of player...and that means we need to be patient. LL, AD want Madge's style, but not everyone does. Bennet gives blokes a week off...everyone is his best mate...

Do you know any of this to be true directly, or all hearsay? I'm not a fan of making grand statements about the personalities of people you've never met, nor even had second-hand information about.

Benji said it on 360.....I am presuming he knows what he is talking about.

"From a guy like Madge (Maguire) who only knows one way of, 'we're going to train as hard as we can, we're going to get as fit as we can and it doesn't matter what it takes to get to that, we're going to build mental toughness'... and I really enjoyed that," the New Zealand star added.
**"But I think what's happened now is the generation has changed where I think the kids are a little bit different these days where individually people need different types of training, or different types of understanding.
"Some people don't handle tough love, and understanding that is probably the biggest challenge that Madge is going to have for next year."**

That's just one opinion. Harry Grant gave a different opinion. It's interesting because Harry Grant came from the Storm and Benji has been cut by the coach he is now critiquing.

What I would say, fine, quote Benji Marshall's opinion, but your original post stated that position as if it was fact - "Madge is one way, 10000% and intense". It may well be that Benji's relationship with Madge is not the same as for all other players.

And then you posted a number of generalised summaries about the other coaches - Barrett is a "players coach", Bellamy is like Madge but more successful,

t is not just that. Barret is "a player's coach". The Turbo bros love him and player's talk. A lot of coaches like Cleary and Barret treat each player differently. Bennett is your "best mate". Madge will only attract certain types of players. All very assumptive.

Assumptive, perhaps.

But also based on a long time following the game. Dozens of players have made those comments re Bennet.

I do think Bellamy is indeed like a more successful version of Madge though...and that is a good thing.
**> Agreed re Grant...he is the type of player we need / who thrives under Madge**. AD is also.

The problem is, most modern players are not like that (as Benji stated). That is what makes recruitment so hard...and is something the storm excel in. They never recruit soft players.

He thrives under Madge because he is a quality player with self drive and wants to be the best he can be.

Half of our squad are other teams rejects and non performing locals who are just happy to run 9th.

Maguire will cut the dead wood eventually. His junior recruitment is spot on and one day soon the entire 17 will be more of the Grant mentality than the duds we are putting up with right now.

Angus Chrichton anyone?

The Roosters pursuit of teenage sensation Jopseh Suaalii could see them lose Origin second-rower Angus Crichton as the club begin shedding salary cap space to secure the Rabbitohs junior.
The Daily Telegraph report Suaalii has knocked back a $2 million offer from South Sydney, where he's played his junior rugby league, and is on the radar of fierce rivals the Roosters, who have offered a long-term deal.
Suaali is under contract at Redfern until the end of next year and would need to gain a release if he decides to shift to another club.
While the Rabbitohs are expected to play hardball with their arch-rivals, the Roosters now appear in the box seat for Suaalli's signature, despite Rugby Australia also making an approach with a lucrative offer.
Channel Nine's Danny Weidler told Sky Sports Racing's Big Sports Breakfast the Roosters are the club Suaalii is favouring, but said last year's premiers had "issues" with their roster that needed solving first.

The Roosters have already begun a minor clean-out with the release of Kyle Flanagan and Poasa Fa'amausili on Tuesday.
However, Weidler suggests it could see them also let go of big-money forward Crichton as the club looks to lock up Jake Friend and the Morris twins, as well as Suaalii, in the coming weeks.
"The Roosters are in the process of making room to try and secure Suaalli. I think Kyle Flanagan is a part of that," Weidler said.
"They've got issues, they've got to secure the Morris's, they haven't announced them as re-signings yet; Jake Friend, I think he's got a deal there but they haven't registered that either.. they also want to get Suaalii.
