Benji won us a grand final. Ted didn't even get us to top 8. Benji is his era wins hands down.

I said this earlier. Tedesco might be the best player Wests Tigers have produced but he isn't our best player or even close. I wouldn't even consider him. Hodgo was heaps better for us.

This makes no sense whatsoever to me. Yes I expect some loyalty from players. Yes I judge sportsman differently to other people. For instance to me Floyd Mayweather isn't half the champion that Thomas Hearns was. Champions to me have some grit. Tedesco to me doesn't have the character to be a great. Technically very good but he lacks that character.

Loyalty in NRL.Tigers have only 3 of the original squad left since Madge took over. -- My case rests.

You can't rest your case when you're wrong....
There'd be more than 3 that were here under Cleary - I think the number would be closer to 10.

Yes but now only Nofoaluma, Mbye and Packer have not been re-signed/extended by Maguire..

Yes and Brooks had a long contract ,without Mbye and Packer who he wanted to move, the figure would have been 8 left from 2019.

Benji wasn’t our best either, the difference between his best and worst was astronomical, and it could be in the same game.
Someone mentioned it earlier, for continued length of high standard footy, Ellis wins hands down, 75 games across 4 seasons, all first class

Sorry guys I know this is a little of topic but are planning on signing any 1 or do you guys have any suggestions of who we should sign? Hahahah

'Life's not all about money': Benji Marshall opens up on future
By Zachary Gates

Legendary playmaker Benji Marshall has spoken for the first time since knocking back a monster pay deal with Super League club Hull FC, declaring "life's not all about money". Hopes of Marshall's illustrious NRL career ending on a fairytale note at Wests Tigers were dashed when coach Michael Maguire in August told him he wouldn't be offered a contract for 2021.

And while the 2005 premiership hero was reportedly in talks to join the North Queensland Cowboys on a $150,000 contract, and later Hull on a blockbuster $722,000 deal, neither agreement eventuated. Marshall said he had opted to prioritise family over money. "Life's not all about money and when I thought about the pros and cons, the pros were just about the money," Marshall told Triple M. "If it was about the money I probably would've retired five years ago. "

Good luck Benji your not missed and its not about the $.
Culture is already looking better at WT without having a sook around the team.

When you think Wests Tigers, you think Benji Marshall and vice versa it’s as simple as that... and I don’t see that changing anytime soon

Yes he’s not the player he once was, but that doesn’t mean we should disrespect the greatest player in the clubs history whom had put this team on the map leading us to our first and only premiership, more so respect his decision to wanna play on and wish him all the best and cherish the memories he had once demonstrated at this team and give him the respect he deserves and allow him to do whatever he wishes as we owe him that at the very least wouldn’t you think, I don’t understand why everyone’s so bothered about him believing in himself that he can play another season, it has no barring on us whatsoever if he plays on somewhere else to try further his legacy that’s fine, for all he has done for this club we should support a club legends aspirations not put him down....

I’m not upset we didn’t re-sign benji, I personally think it was the correct decision in terms of this club moving forward however I do think he deserves to be respected and appreciated for the things he has done for this great club, and should be able to make whatever decision he thinks is right for himself and be supported by us fans

Think what you like its your choice, we all have our own thoughts, second time round one things why ask him to come back he never developed any players it was all about him.

I wished him all the best, he was a sook that's not being disrespectful just stating the facts on how he left.

I think you will find he has rubbed a lot of long term supporters the wrong way not only how he left this time but also the prior time as well. Maybe you don't recall history but he was one of the main instigators in having Sheens removed then the following season did not see out his contract and went to play rugby union.

BENJI Marshall has walked out on the Wests Tigers _ but wants a return to the club in coming years.

Marshall posted a four minute video on the club's website today revealing why he made the contentious decision to quit.

"It's been a hard time for myself and my family but as you all know I have made my decision to move on from the club at the end of this year. It was probably the hardest decision I have had to make," Marshall said.

"I feel like I have done everything in the game at this club, including winning a premiership, representing my country, captaining my country, winning a Four Nations, winning a World Cup and winning the Golden Boot. Without (the fans) support, a lot of that couldn't have been achieved.

"I feel like I am the person I am today based upon what I have done at this club. At the end of the day, my decision was based on what was best for myself and my family. Not only that but what was best for the club also.

"I know some people won't be happy but some will be happy to see me go. That's life, rugby league is a game and the club is bigger than me.

"I will honour my words about not playing for another (NRL) club. There is no other NRL club for me to play for. The Tigers are my home and will always be my home.

"I have seen guys like Mark O'Neill leave, go to England and then come back to the club. I am hoping to do the same in some capacity after I retire, maybe be involved with the club. Hopefully get back into it somewhere."

Marshall said he was not angry at the club.

"There is no hard feeling between myself or the club," he said.

"A the end of they day they did what they thought they could in the (salary) cap to keep me but this decision goes far further beyond than money.

"If it was in the past I could have take more money to go elsewhere. I feel like I have given my life to the club. Eleven years is a long time. I will never forget the years I had here."

Well he did not play for another club but more than one, was given a lifeline to come back, Madge selected him also to play for NZ after 7 years being exiled.

Lastly 2005 was not all about Marshall there is no i in Team.
Agree Marshall will be remembered for being a great player for the Tigers but he will also now be remembered for being someone that wanted to play on too long as should have retired back in 2018.

The quicker these blokes like Marshall and Robbie become ancient history in this club the better ...we need to start producing the heroes to replace these guys asap

Benji expecting another baby in June - sort of explains why he didn't take the opportunity to go the UK and why the desire to stay in Sydney.

Say what you like about him does not take away from the fact
he is the greatest player to have played for west’s tigers

Tedesco says hi

I'd take prime Benji 2005-2011 over Teddy now

I wouldn't. Outside of 2005 Benji was incredibly inconsistent most of those years, often overplaying his hand or suffering a defensive lapse.
Tedesco is the complete package. At nine years younger than Benji he has already achieved more in the game.

Tedesco is the better player. He doesn't have the top end Benji had but he is more consistent. The problem is if you don't like Benji as a person Tedesco is heaps worse. He reminds me of a spoiled brat. I bet he was and is a spoiled brat.

Consistency. The death of the modern game. Tedesco is a great player, benji is too. Benji changed the game, like slater. Tedesco won’t ever change the game, won’t let you down though.

If Tom T stayed fit he is a better player than Tedesco. Only reason he player out of position in rep football is because he can. Tedesco can’t play outside fullback

Can't understand these comments=Tedesco is heaps worse! I have never heard anything bad'.RE =turbo,When Teddy was fist picked Turbo was fit, all thought Teddy was better.Teddy was excellent on the wing in other rep games.Ithink you could play Teddy anywhere and he would excel he is the consumate professional.

Like I said teddy is a great player you must have missed that part. I thought it was written fairly clearly.

I just think turbo is a better fullback

Hey finnzo,Xmas time everyone is looking up the chimney, and all will fire again in the new year.Last sumary was we need quality 2nd rower or 2.FB-maybe Laurie, possibly in the market for Crichton or Staggs(with another 8 clubs) another 9 (9don't ask me why) .1 mil in the cap apprx and 2 vacancies for 2021. 2022 12 players off contract, and depending on upgrades ,anywhere from 1 to 2mil in cap.Lots of promising players coming through, its all wait and see. This is only a rough estimate.MERRY XMAS.

Agree Marshall will be remembered for being a great player for the Tigers but he will also now be remembered for being someone that wanted to play on too long as should have retired back in 2018.

Maybe he is a "Winner" Earl - And we just don't know what that and they look like???
Have had time with Teddy since before he made grade - He's not a brat - He works hard and has fought for where he is... Benji is probably more likeable - But the game is there to be won...
I'll take a winner every day.

I understand people's perspective is different. To me Tedesco is a loser and he always will be. A talented guy lacking the character of a champion.

Tedesco is nothing compared to Floyd Mayweather and comparing him to someone at that level is hilarious but the lack of challenging yourself is similar.

How many games did Floyd Mayweather play for the tigers ?

Madge wants McInnes. Coached him at Souths. He and Hartigan met with him and his manager at cafe yesterday morning, McInnes wants to see how things with Griffin go but is very tempted. Tigers around $700K, Dragons currently $575K. Quite confident we’ll get him

They’re offering $700k? That’s probably overs. He’s a good player but he’s not a game breaker, more a consistent performer who won’t let you down.

He offers more than just his ability. His presence and attitude are second to none. Captaincy material.

That’s true, he’s a fantastic leader. His work ethic is second to none. Could also play some time at lock so we can carry a hooker on the bench, assuming he wants to play hooker which is what I’ve read

He’s a good player but he’s not worth $700k

That suggests we're not going to bother going after the block of cheese then. 700k for McInnes is too much. Drop it by 150k and you're close to the mark IMO.

Great price for a bloke who’s currently at his peak. Fair price and would probably see him shift between lock and Hooker, 2 positions he can play better than average but he’s definitely a better lock. As I said a few days ago, it would be a culture shifting signing for us

Or Smith is QLD bound which is more likely.
