The Mole: Big-money Bulldogs favourites to sign gun Broncos centre Kotoni Staggs for 2022

I don't know how they fit all this into their salary cap?

It's not just the cap, but the fact they can attract players like that.

We've been a much more attractive club than Bulldogs for years.

Plus they have history in rorting the cap. Nrl would be keeping a close eye.
They'll be in all sorts in a few years anyway, Barrett can't coach and they'll be rebuilding again ?

Barrett is Under pressure to perform and get results. Buying up big names in the hope of immediate success I prefer our strategy of building by smart junior development and junior identification and recruitment.

Long term Madges policy is a far better option than going for the quick fix which rarely turns out to be a fix.The more clubs that take the dogs approach the more i like it

I put Nathan Brown and Trent Barrett in the same category. You would get them in short term when you need a team rebuild or need to freshen up the place with change. The club I would be worried about in 2022 is Souths. You can tell the master coach is leaving.. they sign on an unwanted 35 yo and an unwanted 31yo but they cant come to terms with their star playmaker, and goal kicking captain, because at 30 they think he is too old.

This has disaster written all over it... So much money spend on backs it's just funny to watch as its not us this time. Player are mainly going there for overs and it will bit them hard when they have no money left for the main areas...
Its hard to explain but for the first time in a Long long time I fully trust our recruitment team and coach on the decisions they are making and building the club for the bigger picture and not to win straight away. I hope Dogs get Staggs for 800k :grinning:

It looks like Ivan Cleary Wests Tigers.

That would be absurd. Literally half their cap on a handful of outside backs. Zero depth, average pack, average halves, and a whole lot of mercenaries on 700k+

Josh Schuster 18th man for Manly. Believe him and his manager were going to survey the lay of the land before asking for a release. Throw the chequebook at him.

$$$ wise and lack of a well rounded team is Ivan. But at least Barrett is aiming high with signing current talent. Mbye, Packer, Reynolds and Mats werent aiming very high like Ivan did in screwing us.

Yea , especially when their real issue wasn’t the guys finishing tries , but the pigs in the middle creating yardage , to create space . Their pack is beyond awful . They’re basically bought fringe panthers first graders to try and turn it around .

I was happy to sign Hastings when it looked unlikely Laurie was coming over but i'm not sure he's really all that necessary now.

Also based on Madden looking OK against Manly. Do we want Hastings blocking his progression?

I think it is clear to me that we Do Not Need Hastings based on the Players available.

Best Spine for Tigers
1 - Laurie
6 - AD
7 - Brooks
9 - Liddle

Madden and Simpkin are the next in line and who we could be building our club around for the next 10 years.

Hastings would just be another ego to deal with

Yeah Madden didn’t seem like he did much over the weekend but he played the perfect foil for Brooks and unleashed Lukes potential. It’s the stuff you don’t see on camera that goes unnoticed (obviously)

I thought he was good, Brooks did the majority of the organisational role while they played together and looked great. Madden filled in around him and gave nice early ball to Roberts which is important. Roberts being deep and running onto early ball is one of the most dangerous players in the game.

Yep it was good halves play. Just because he didn’t score 5 tries, kick 10 goals and spear tackle 3 blokes doesn’t necessarily mean he played bad. He got the little things right which got unnoticed, complimented Brooks well IMO

I thought he looked really comfortable defensively too.

So there's a rumour that Edrick Lee might get an early release? I wonder if the club would have a look at him. He's not the perfect winger but we do lack a little depth there, problem is he's injury prone

I think he's an alright player. Knows how to score a try but has his issues too. Probably won't happen, only thought of it cause we lack a specialist winger as depth at the moment

I think his career inevitably got flushed down the toilet when he dropped that sitter for Canberra in that prelim many years ago . Wasn’t the same since

Lead his team to a 18-52 loss against WT. Yeah he’s played well against us twice but I’m backing Brooks and Doueihi to become a top line halves pairing this year. If they are failing mid year maybe then we do a deal.

Agree. Last year he was told Foran was signed to play hooker. He can’t be happy right now.

I think he’s a controlling halfback and probably wouldn’t gel with DCE.

Has always been his problem - when he does catch the footy he can do some good stuff.
