@THE_POM Is Madge concerned? What are the coaching staff thinking and doing at the moment?

More perplexed than concerned, Madge had one of his “infamous” 1 v 1 honesty chats with him this week, let’s see how he responds.

Cheers mate for your responses, appreciate it! There just seems to be no urgency from our players at times and lack of people pushing through and giving options for each other.

That’s the biggest concern & last week showed it. Kepaoa isn’t 100% (knee). Hoffman would be in there but Madge giving him game time in NSW cup as he had an interrupted pre-season. Hence the urgency for another outside back.

Walters for Oates seems very logical for both clubs, is the club feeling like it'll happen?

Oates pretty busted.

Looks good in reserves. He's not an elite winger but he can score a try and do tough carries in the middle, he would be the second best winger at the club.

If he got back to form he’d be the best winger at the club

If he got back to form he’d be the best <insert position hereat the club

Brooks, JTJ, Joey Leilua, Packer, Mbye, Tamou,

Oates with both legs in casts and two amputated arms would still be an upgrade on AJ.

No way Hastings would be a ball playing lock. Surely there to take pressure off Brooks and/or put pressure on him.

Correct.

Hastings hasnt had to tackle for three years and then he gets dropped in the middle to defend?

If Hastings could hold his own in defence, I would be all for a ball playing lock. He doesn't even need to run or kick the ball, just tell everyone where to go and what moves we're doing.

In fairness most of our squad hasn’t had to tackle since July 2020

Oates has feet for hands and is about as good on his feet as a new born giraffe...not a fan ..Kepeoa sucks as well

Would’ve thought Talau, Mbye or even Douehi would be a better option for a ball-playing lock than Hastings if Madge was going that direction.

Let’s see how we go this week.

Surley that cant be true about Hoffman he is not winger , did Madge watch the first 2 cup games , if this is true any wonder we are in the position we are

Agree I actually don’t mind the idea of Talau at lock.

I hadnt previously considered him there but I think its obvious that Madge is thinking that based on Rd 1. It suits his skills to be honest. Big, not fast, supposedly has a passing game (I havent seen it but everyone says he is a 5/8).

He would need to get a lot fitter and bulk up a bit more IMO. But he does have a good base, would take a while for him to transition there. Might take a few years which is why I’d have on the bench and come on the last 20 of each half.

I dont disagree with you, but if you consider the other prospects being thrown around are Jake Simpkin, Liddle, Hastings, Mbye, he is the biggest of the lot of them.

Scott sAttler reporting that b.smith has signed with the bulldogs for next year.

If true, I honestly can’t fathom how a bottom 4 team like the Dogs can just attract these sort of players, while we still scratch around in the dirt looking for someone half decent - it beggars belief really.

It's call the almighty dollar, have you heard of it? Dogs have a lot of space money and space in their roster.

How did Titans sign David Fifita?

Well we threw some almighty dollars at a couple of well known players, but they chose elsewhere on a either a lesser or comparative offer, so it’s not always about the biggest offer - no need to be a smartarse.

The Titans sign some big names because of their location, no other reason. The Dogs don’t have the lure of an attractive location that’s for sure.

Well you are talking specifically about Bulldogs making signings and Tigers not making similar "large" signings. Tigers went after Latrell in 2019 but withdrew when he was mucking about. He ended up back at Souths. You will recall that Bulldogs were reportedly involved in negotiations with Latrell as well, but he obviously didn't end up there.

Who else are we talking about? Bulldogs signed Cotric, Flanagan and, yet to be confirmed, Brandon Smith. We don't know the values or the terms, it's pointless to speculate - you have no idea whether we made lesser or comparative offers to anyone at any time, it's pointless to make that the crux of an argument.

Tigers were never linked, so far as I am aware, to Cotric or Flanagan. We definitely competed with Bulldogs for JAC, but again reportedly, Tigers withdrew interest when he could not secure a release from Storm. Tigers originally wanted JAC for 2021 and Storm wanted a trade that we weren't prepared to make. Bulldogs signed him for 2022 onwards and no particular indicator that Tigers re-entered negotiations?

So I gave a smartarse answer because it sort of ends up being a dumb question - if we can all agree there's no lifestyle advantage in Belmore, and the coach isn't some mega player magnet, and the Bulldogs board is eternally fractured, the team hasn't made the finals in some time... what else is there that the Bulldogs offer? Occam's Razor mate, it's money.

Well that’s the first time I’ve ever seen it spelled that way.

You have to do the swap on drugs or after visiting a witchdoctor.

really. we sign a winger and we improve?

that's a Facebook problem

Was that the suggestion? Did you even read the conversation? We have two wingers in our top 30. We clearly need another one as AJ is struggling at the moment and we have no replacements

-facepalm- a winger is not a loss reversing signing.

Yes we need another one, but that is not where we should throw our cash. It's a Facebook signing. Reactionary at best, doesn't address our real problems. Hell we even have Gebbie in the "wings" (another Facebook pleaser I'm sure)

So yes I read the conversation. I disagreed.

60-80 min lock to put JOffa/Twal in front row rotation is where I'd spend my magic money if they were available. Then a half that could buy a repeat set (or forward pay a contract or 2).

What we need is pretty obvious. The good sides all have a massive barnstorming weapon (Tino, Fifita, papalii, Touponua, Kikau, Brown, Nelson). Gives the halfback a simple outlet when attacks are breaking down or you need yards. Who’s ours?

Musgrove I reckon and at a later stage big steff

Neither of them has the incredible leg speed of the guys I mentioned. I hope they develop into leaders but don’t see them as attacking weapons.

If you believe Tino and Fifita ..having legends like Meninga and Tallis showing up on your doorstep in the final negotiations helped heaps

I believe them if you are saying legends like Meninga and Tallis showed up on their doorstep with wads of cash.

Why is Gorden Tallis championing the Titans in place of the club he played most of his career?

Tino said it in the Titans diaries they ran in the pre season ....Tallis was at the final negotiation with Fifita

So Tallis dogged the Broncos and his mate Kevvy..not surprised Queenslanderrrrrrrs

Im guessing he is on a deal ...der

Hastings appears seemly a formality, discussions for 2022 have been on going but as it’s been broken all around it’s now clear 2021 is the aim.
This will move very fast, they want him here ASAP so he can do his 2 week quarantine & get straight into the system.

Any idea what the coaching are staff are doing to get this mob to play with some heart and have a go for 80 minutes a week?

Well for starters if you stopped calling games on the live game thread

I'm suprised Madge and Pascoe haven't shown up at your door with some unsavoury types ......

dogs cap is looking as thou its getting outa wack already, yes 15 players of contract next year ,except for a few there is really not that much money there.much like dezzie days ,but think there repeating old habits.the Tigers are holding tight, sponsors, front office r in the best shape then ever and in time it will finally filter down.Hartigan and 2 some extent the guy with the magic formula[x storm]are our best signings since our last glory days.just a side note i think Sheensie and the boys with there style of play would carve the new rules etc 2 peices......to infinity and behond
