Danny Weidler reporting Hastings returning to the NRL next year with Tigers front runners to sign him.

We'd be the only runners. Seriously if this true, our recruitment has reached a new low. I believed Joey Leilua to be right down there.

Why would Hastings be a new low?

I informed a friend of mine. He and his family have links to Illawarra footy. His first comment is why do some coaches believe they are the exception when others have failed (in relation to recruiting players who have a history)? This is the same gentleman who pointed out a young 16 year old Ryan Girdler as a future star. I listen when someone of that background makes comment.

No offence intended mate but I dont think we should entirely write off this potential signing based on your mate who has connections to Illawarra footy.

No offence taken. But if we are considering or have signed Hastings, I despair for our club and its future.

What did Hastings actually do? No one has ever said. He also seems to have matured a lot after being exiled.

Blow up witb DCE and most of the other players in the team was the last thing I remember. He didn't seem to get along with many people wherever he went.

And this is what I mean. He's essentially been run out of the country based on a bad attitude at this point. I assume he did something really nasty off field that has been ignored or covered up because he's a nobody

He was only 22 at the time and some young men do not mature as quickly as others. If ruffling the feathers of a few ego's is the worst he has done I think he is probably entitled some leeway. His price tag would be thing I am most concerned about. He is still relatively in proven here.

Every person I know that went to school with such and such now playing in the NRL, is either working on a. Forklift or telling a forklift driver what to do.

I have absolutely no doubt that we are on the right recruitment track and we obviously need some quality outside backs, but whoever we target from now on needs to have one overriding and dominant characteristic- they must be a “competitor”, an undying out and out 110% effort player, a guy who really wants to win. It’s the Harry Grant , Brandon Smith types that we need and that will transform our group into a finals contender in 2022.

Townsend a good signing for Cowboys imo. Will improve their team - 80% goal kicker, leading the comp in try assists, experienced, premiership winner, forces repeat sets and will be a good balance with a more attacking player like Drinkwater or similar plus adds leadership and already has a good relatio ship with their fullback and would come at an ok price giving them room in the cap post Morgan

On the field - I think he'll be a better lock/14 option than Mybe. He is a runs at speed and ball plays. Would run havoc in the middle around tired defnders. Can put people in holes or run into holes also. I think he's a really smart buy as a lock/14.

Off the field, he seemed to put a lot of effort in turning his life around. I think the move to the UK was a bug wake up call and an opportunity to reinvent himself. He really engages with the fans over there. Maybe over here it would be seen as self promoting, but over there he went out of his way to connect with fans and he was embraced by the UK fans for it.
