Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

All this talk about Hastings is just the latest in a LONG line of potential signings that "have changed" or "it will be different this time".

How many times are we going to go down this well worn path to disappointment?

The best indicator for future performance, is past performance.

Agreed

When I read his signing this morning and all the squaddies were on the Forum to gauge the reaction, my first feeling was despair.

Past performance was a man of steel season in England.... can do a whole lot worse than that. He's not a bad player he's no world beater but he's good.

The only issue is off field and absolutely 0 people on this forum have any idea what kind of bloke he is at the moment. They love him in England!

Rather him than Townsend at least 😂😂

Adrian Vowles, Rangi Chase.........

Plenty of bog average players have won the MoS.

Reports saying Chad Townsend has signed a 3 year deal with the Cowboys .Opens a position at the WT'S retirement home for a half Brooks says he's not going anywhere Mbye may be

The writing is on the wall for Brooks. He’s had 7 odd years to get us to finals. He needs a change, he just can’t be a dominant playmaker.

Hastings is an upgrade at a cheaper price. Can also play lock or hooker.

I don’t see the down side.

Where does this “he’s had 7 years!” argument come from? How many years has the bloke had a stable team/coach around him?

It’s the go to line for the usual Brooks sheep bashers .

We've replaced almost every other player in the team. It's the definition of building a club around him. Hasn't worked.

I don't blame him for that, he's had some terrible coaching in the past which has stifled his career.

Danny Weidler reporting Hastings returning to the NRL next year with Tigers front runners to sign him.

We'd be the only runners. Seriously if this true, our recruitment has reached a new low. I believed Joey Leilua to be right down there.

Why would Hastings be a new low?

I informed a friend of mine. He and his family have links to Illawarra footy. His first comment is why do some coaches believe they are the exception when others have failed (in relation to recruiting players who have a history)? This is the same gentleman who pointed out a young 16 year old Ryan Girdler as a future star. I listen when someone of that background makes comment.

No offence intended mate but I dont think we should entirely write off this potential signing based on your mate who has connections to Illawarra footy.

No offence taken. But if we are considering or have signed Hastings, I despair for our club and its future.

What did Hastings actually do? No one has ever said. He also seems to have matured a lot after being exiled.

Blow up witb DCE and most of the other players in the team was the last thing I remember. He didn't seem to get along with many people wherever he went.

Blow up with DCE wow didn't see that coming

And this is what I mean. He's essentially been run out of the country based on a bad attitude at this point. I assume he did something really nasty off field that has been ignored or covered up because he's a nobody

He was only 22 at the time and some young men do not mature as quickly as others. If ruffling the feathers of a few ego's is the worst he has done I think he is probably entitled some leeway. His price tag would be thing I am most concerned about. He is still relatively in proven here.

Nothing wrong with hating Manly players.
The blokes who don’t want him are scared he’ll show Brooks up.

Nah

Hastings is another Mitchell Moses except Moses has more talent in his left pinky than Hastings

Total self entitled flog. You’ll find out soon enough when we sign him

Look at the link I posted and the profile. Hastings could be Nathan Cleary's brother.

Mate I went to school with him I know exactly what he’s like haha

Gee that’s a great bit of info .... thanks.
And I went to school with ..... now let me see?

Every person I know that went to school with such and such now playing in the NRL, is either working on a. Forklift or telling a forklift driver what to do.

Lol, so their either the driver of the team or a good organiser. All halfbacks?

Brent Naden's terms for 2022 & 23 have been agreed upon, Talk ongoing to see if there's a chance of getting him this year (made all more desperate now with AJ's injury).
Club has been talking to Isaac Lumelume's management about an early release to bolster this years backline, nothing eventuated as yet, not ruled out as a 2022 signing.

Semi Valemei (Raiders), Nene McDonald (Sharks) & Tevita Funa (Sea Eagles) have been mentioned as possible depth signings before June 30.

Not bad. I don't mind Funa as a player probably the best of the 3 mentioned there. Naden early would be really nice

Lumelume would be a brilliant signing

Keep in mind that George Jennings is keeping him out of first grade.

Idk about anyone else but recently it looks like doueihi has taken alot of the responsibility and pressure off of brooks to great effect. Brooks looks like he's navigating for the team but doueihi is the one at the wheel, as well as doueihi taking alot of the general kicking duties so brooks can pick his moments. People can knock the bloke all they want, this is just one mans opinion after all, but Brooks has recorded 7 try assists in 6 rounds, a fairly good strike rate.

I think with Townsend to NQ that closed the Brooks to them and we are stuck with him for another 2.5 years. Also Mbye has not got the traction we thought he would get and might be stuck with him next year also.
Maybe some dominoes will start to fall in place soon.

Is it just me or is it strange that we announce a signing at 9pm on a Monday night ???

Yeah I keep going back to the 2006 broncos with Two great organising halves in Brett Seymour and Darren Lockyer and how they didn’t have success until the left the playmaking to Lockyer and the navigating to the unknown Halfback from Q Cup Shane Perry.

Doueihi is obviously our main man but I think Brooks does a good job of complementing him. Does the halfback really have to be the dominant player when you’ve got a loud six?

Probably wanted to end the media drama about it and get it out of the way. Might have to do with time zones in England too but that's just a random guess

After that bloke in bar interview and the fact being that all the negatives against him happened 3 years ago I rate it. Definitely more deserving of another chance than alot of other blokes running around atm.
