TPJ to Dogs imminent...

Unless a club releases a big name player to us, 2022 is looking barren as there are no players left who are much better than we have.

Except Finucane...so it seems all or nothing with him now.

Well in saying that. He has 2 choices. Us or Melbourne and maybe a loss of about 600k over 3 years.
Maybe they will help him decide?
I reckon the club would be willing to sign him for 600k for 3 years, no more. Melbourne I reckon would be hard pressed being able to fit him in for 450k no less. Of course there’s always the Knights, Sharks or Cowboys so he may still get the deal he is after.

Im coming around to Finucane and hope we get him. I agree that I'd offer $600K over 3 which is probably one year too many but I think he is the kind of guy to take that risk. Unlike Tamou (who I was happy with), Finucane is still smashing it right now.

Surely if Dragons sign Sua and Dogs sell the farm to get TPJ, we would have to be in the box seat if he leaves Storms.

We're not getting Finucane - he wants more money and a longer deal than WT are willing to pay. My source on this is solid.

Any other news from your source

TPJ won't come here for less than 950k, which WT laughed at. My source feels the frustration of the fans but this is simply a slow process as there's not a huge amount of A-grade talent on the market this year. The long term plan involves an increased focus on developing and retaining local juniors. Some of these Flegg boys will hopefully step up in a couple of years time - there's one or two like Ogden and Mavoni who could end up in FG next season.

Feels like we have been waiting for the transfer market to heat in our favour for the past 3 season but never happens.

Mavoni only has 5 minutes in him before he's gassed.

Exactly right. I hope we’re not pinning our hopes on him, he has a long way to go.

Ogden on the other hand has looked good, but been quite injury prone so far.

I don't understand Liddle he has all the same attributes as Cook but just can't put it together. I'd be seeing if south's need cap room and throwing an offer Cooks way.

Some players just have more talent than others.

Brooks has the same attributes as Cleary, but Cleary is better.

Appreciate the update mate..
It sounds like we have no choice but to go youth but are we even considering paying overs for someone for 2 years until these kids develop ? Not saying 950 k for TPJ either as that is outrageous but no use having this money and not spending it. I would rather take a risk for 2 years on someone.

These would be my targets: (off contract)
Curtis Sironen (21)
Scott Sorenson (21)
Herbie Farnworth (22)
Corey Horsburgh (22)
Moeaki Fotuaika (22)
Marata Niukore (22)
Brandon Smith (22) - would seriously give this bloke 900k

Obviously some are off contract in 2022 but can talk after Nov 1 and try to agitate an early release

Fotuaika and Smith would top this list for me

Well considering we cannot sign anyone and have plenty of money I would give Milford a go as he would be on the cheap. 300k and a change of scenery might do him wonders.. 14 would be a good spot to see how he goes but a few years ago this guy killed it and thats why he got massive money. He is a game breaker and think if no pressure on him and having a free roam like aka Watson at Knights he could be a great pick up. He is only 26 as well..

A few years ago a lot of our senior players could play. Not now.

I would have thought Sione Tupou is ahead of him.

Close one. Mavoni is destructive but needs to work on his fitness. Combination of more strength and cardio will do him wonders - depends how much he can improve over the next pre-season.

Does your source knows if Liam Scolari is part of the club’s plans? Thanks

We can not attract flies to shit let alone sign a player..
I would rather give him a short team deal like we did with JTJ to see how he goes and he is only 26.. You don't lose talent but you lose confidence.. Joe O moved and he is playing some good footy..
Unless the club has some big name signings coming and we have no cap money left :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:

Where are all these players ringing him, Madge lives in a fantasy world where 2014 never ends and his game plans work

This makes bleak reading. Like everyone who loves Wests Tigers I was hoping we would be able to make one marquee signing now Russel Packer and Josh Reynolds contracts will be off the books for 2022. If you listen to the media that’s roughly 1.4 million. I think we are in a dark hole and there isn’t much light at the end of the tunnel. Time to blood some youth, at least bring back Jake Simpkin to the bench and get some game time in tandem with Liddle and Tualagi deserves a crack in the back row. I love big Luciano but he looks gassed during games. Blood some youth for 2022!!!!!

I agree, but we have to spend the money, we can't just leave it because no one wants to come here

We should be front loading Daine Laurie, Stefano, Twal, Brooks, anyone who is having a dig, so we can go chips in for genuine stars when they come up.

I'm frustrated by us not being able to recruit players but as others have said, buying a team rarely works. You saw the Sharks put together a premiership team based around vet players and cap rorts, but few teams succeed with that strategy. Titans haven't, knights haven't, warriors haven't, bulldogs haven't (yet). So what do you do? We had a play at that recruiting Adam Blair, and that blew up in our faces.

Our last big spending spree under Cleary was horrible. If you're not getting top line players then you spend a bit more and recruit younger up and coming players. That's all you can do. Gotta build slow and put together a really good squad and then put big money on a marquee when the opportunity arises.

We had some missed opportunities with some good value young discards in Saab and the Warriors' Walsh, but Laurie was a good pickup and we junst need to keep on buying those type of players.

In the meantime you also buy midlevel players like Tamou and Leuilua and Joe O and they do a job for you on decent contracts and not many years to them. The club has made some mistakes, but it's better to have flexibility then spend big dollars on players like TPJ who have not proven anything yet. Spend on proven top class talent, but TPJ is a great get if it's on a reasonable contract that doesn't prove to burdensome if it doesn't work out.

There's a lot of hype around new signings (go back and read how excited everyone was about Packer, Matulino, Reynolds and Mbye) but it doesn't usually work as a strategy to make a good, competitive team.

We need to think about players looking to leave thier club and for mine thier will be a few on contract who will be looking for a mutual exit

Joe Tapine (27, 131 FG games)- No doubt in my mind that he will be looking out of the Raiders and id say they will oblige. Plus Madge loves him from their time with NZ

David Klemmer (27, 169 FG games) - Is a 1st tackle prop making 150m every week and 95% tackle efficiency. He is playing off the bench at the Knights and wouldnt be happy and they need to upgrade the Saifiti twins next year.

Shaun Lane (26, 111 games) / Marata Niukore (24, 69 FG games)- Playing off the bench for the Eels with Brown, Matterson, Papalili starting and they still have Cartwright, Hipgrave and Stone in their squad. Can't see both of them staying and either would be great additions

Connor Watson (25, 95 Fg Games) - Great utility value and off contract would be a great number 14 and gives you back up at halves, hooker, fullback and has even played some lock this year. Rumoured to be going to Sharks is the only issue to join Fitzy but would be a great and cheaper replacement for what Mbye is meant to be.

While the first 4 are all on contract they are also players who could be looking for one reason or another for a starting spot and all in the prime mid 20s but not 30 like Finucane
