Think once Maumalo was signed all interest in Isaako dropped off.

There is a win by Tigers recruitment right there but I dont expect anyone to acknowledge it.

Whilst everyone is wetting thair pants that we "cant attract anyone" and "missed out on" marquee player X, the clubs recruitment team has added Maumalo, Laurie, Stef, Tuki, Joe O, Tuilagi, in the last 12 months to add to Douiehi, LL & Blore in the 12 months prior.

These players are the best in our squad and if we had a squad of this capability we make the 8. I am genuinely amazed that everyone here is blind to seeing that the improvement of the squad over the last 18-24 months is due to the recruitment system we have.

The squad has not improved from 18 months ago.

2021 Average age 23, 2019 average age 25.5

2021 Wests Tigers are the **youngest** average age in the NRL. 2019 Wests Tigers were the **oldest** in the NRL. That is a MASSIVE turnaround. There is a lot of work going on building this squad and the constant bedwetting totally misses the point.

Moving the goalposts. First you said the squad has improved, now you’re saying it’s just cos they have more potential. I know they are the great white hope atm, but they aren’t the 05 crop that will take us to a tittle. There isn’t a Benji or Robbie amongst them. The club needs 1 or 2 Origin calibre players if they want to go to the next level.

Cool story. Please point out I said the squad has improved? I'll wait........

I said our best players are the most recently recruited and youngest. Talk about moving the goal posts. They clearly have more potential.

Wow! really I think that says it all. Our brightest prospects are definitely our youngest, and it is why I am optimistic even if we don't land many big signings. They may not have been marquee signings, but I honestly believe Daine Laurie, Stefano Uto etc will be marquee players.

Hopefully, in a few years, the top marquee guys will be banging on our door to let them play here?

m not equating them but two years ago this current world beating Penrith squad missed the 8 (they came 10th behind Tigers). That team included Burton, Campbell Gillard, Nathan Cleary, Stephen Crichton, Dylan Edwards, Isaah Yeo, James Fisher Harris, Fuimaono, Kikau, Leniu, Leota, Luai, To’o. They were rubbish because they were kids but they were persisted with and kept together and developed into a great time. Our best players are still very young.

I don't think that's a fair comparison - that team was one of the favourites to win the comp in 2019. The sex tape scandal in the preseason had a huge impact on the playing group and they never recovered. The previous year they had all those players you listed above and they finished 5th.

Just goes to show that sex tapes definately affect your professional goal of achieving a premiership...maybe if they concentrated on what they get paid for this crap wouldnt happen, but any excuse will do...
At least Madge may have worked them hard and they had a sook, but gee a lot of our young guys are going to be great NRL players...and no misdemenours so far...

What happened to Alan Fitzgibbon again, didn't he get the boot after being charged by the cops? Things happen at all clubs

Penrith have a very good system in which to produce good young players. Cleary is also a very good coach. We can only hope our youngsters can play as well as the young Panther players.

Granted they do have a good system that has taken a long time to reach this level they have, smart people, hard work has put them there,Cleary is a good coach when he has quality players to coach....Madge is trying to do the same and build a system that will be competative for years to come....

Yeah but when they finished 5th back in 2018 they were led by players like James Maloney, they weren't led to 5th by the players leading them now. I think the point still stands that they are reaping the benefit of sticking with a core group of young guys.

Think some massive chill pills are needed.
Having a crack and HSS and Butcher from there INCUMBENT clubs and not pinching them is hardly something to throw all the toys out of the cot. Even more so if we are trying not to overpay.

Say they are offered 400k by their incumbent clubs, they end up after agent fees and tax with around roughly 200k in there pocket. Say we offer 450k, net 25k offer 500k net 50k. Offer 600k net 100k

Now we've probably spent 150k too much to get a midrange player

I get the Latrell or JAC ones where they are clearly leaving their existing club and its a free for all.

For what its worth....

A very good mate of mine is a journo in NZ.

Apparently the Tigers are looking at a number of the outside backs in the NPC (which is the level below Super Rugby). No names but he says there is massive potential there.

Thanks for the info.

It seems sad. We can't get 2nd level league players, so lets chase 2nd level union players.

Union is the top football code in NZ, in Australia it runs a distant 4th.That is a major difference

I'm pretty sure Tuki Simpkins was a NZ union player early in his young life?

Yes, the Rugby background is evident in his ability to get the ball in position for an offload. He will be a monster next season!

Ahhh you got me there. Guilty. I didnt think I said that because when you raised it I went back and checked the 2019 squad and I think 2019 was marginally better. I stand by that this squad has much more upside and potential. With regards missing the 8 again, any turnaround is going to have a start date and IMO ammassing such a young but talented squad will be looked back on as the start of the turnaround.

You cant expect these kids to come out of the gate firing. Remember Stef when he started here, we were wondering wht the fuss was about, now he's future SoO. Seyfarth I thought was hopeless and now IMO he is a valuable member of the squad. Douiehi for that matter. The kids that are good will still take time to get there and I see Tuilagi and Tuki in this boat.

centre, back row, lock, backup fullback, winger. those have to be the targets.

Is it good business if your questioning the need for him in the team?

He is a strong forward and I believe a lot better than some we have and I for one was glad he was suspended when we played the Dogs.

Runs hard like Ute, would be unbelievable to get him, cut Musgrove

midway through 2019 Penrith realised they were not going to make the 8 and decided to blood the likes of To'o, Burton, Leniu, Martin & Crichton, who are all now mainstays of their side. yes their juniors are much better than ours, but players like DWZ, Whare, Waqa Blake, Egan and Hame Sele started for them in 2019. we're still a world away but to say those youngsters were first team regulars and the season was completely ruined by Tyrone May is a bit rich. there was a lot of dead wood in that squad.

1. It is a vote of confidence the Panthers entrusted the team to him.
2. He has the Panthers playing an exciting style of footy.

I enjoy watching the Panthers play due to their talent and wonderful style of football they produce.

m not equating them but two years ago this current world beating Penrith squad missed the 8 (they came 10th behind Tigers).

Bearing in mind the development work of the panthers were not done by Cleary?

It's a great team out at the Panthers, both the playing group and coaching/development staff. Cleary is a very good coach.

You're probably right, but he was given an exceptional team to manage at Panthers?

1. It is a vote of confidence the Panthers entrusted the team to him.
2. He has the Panthers playing an exciting style of footy.

I enjoy watching the Panthers play due to their talent and wonderful style of football they produce.

I thought it was in part, to keep the son happy and at the club?

What happened when they had a few out? We flogged them. Not great coaching then?

In 2021 Wests Tigers are the youngest in the NRL, in 2019 we were the oldest.

Wow! really I think that says it all.

Why is Madge leaving, that would be our only hope, he reckons he had players ringing all the time wanting to play for him, give me a break, I am not that stupid

midway through 2019 Penrith realised they were not going to make the 8 and decided to blood the likes of To'o, Burton, Leniu, Martin & Crichton, who are all now mainstays of their side. yes their juniors are much better than ours, but players like DWZ, Whare, Waqa Blake, Egan and Hame Sele started for them in 2019. we're still a world away but to say those youngsters were first team regulars and the season was completely ruined by Tyrone May is a bit rich. there was a lot of dead wood in that squad.

It was pretty darn good squad. The sex scandal had a massive impact on the playing group, and I know that directly from people close to the Panthers. And if you remember it wasn't just Tyrone May, there were 3 separate tapes. It wasn't an isolated incident.
