I suspect Tigers are thinking if we secure Hodgson or Api then we get our creativity from the 9 position instead. Then we could use a running five eighth like Peachey or given Madden a crack until AD returns.

Hodgson is a massive upgrade. Hastings has proven nothing yet. Five eighth is a big hole.

Can't start the season with Peachey 1st or 2nd choice half. You just can't.

He was 1st-choice 5/8th for a semi-final side this year.

Preferably we sign someone but I think he'd fill the spot while Doueihi is injured.

AD is out for half the season, coming off an ACL and 6 is a position that he hasn't cemented yet.

I dont think Brooks is the answer here for whatever reason he cant do it for us. But it would be absolute madness to let him go with literally no one out there to replace him and the guy we may have earmarked at 6 missing half the season. This club honestly maybe they have a rabbit up their sleeve but i seriously doubt that.

We should be keeping Brooks for at least another year - we have Mike Tannous and Tyrone Roberts coming through Jersey Flegg - hopefully one or both of these two shows enough in JF or KOE next year to suggest they can move up to NRL in 2023.

I don't think any of our young halves will be rushed into first grade. Mikey is coming off an ACL and Roberts is an unknown commodity. Kade Hill is a handy player as well but still very very raw. Peach will fill a void if he has to I feel before we blood any of the kids. we've already seen with Madden how reluctant Madge is to debut young halves.

Hopefully this will change. Lui started as an inexperienced 6 but came on strongly. There is no reason why Madden would not have the same trajectory if given the opportunity. Roberts is highly thought of in the Illawarra. Young Boney had been signed to the Panthers since he was 14 so there is talent to work through.

EXPERIENCE!! - Or in the case of 2022 - Lack of it.
We have a team full of Kids and unknowns.
Lui came into a side that had been together for years and was lightyears ahead in Experience - And had the best leader we've ever had - Gareth Ellis.

Oh, And Madden isn't as good as Lui was...
even at that, Lui didn't make it in the NRL.... Remember?

True about Lui and the team he came into plus Ellis. Lui also had fitness issues and wasn't a particularly motivated defender but this changed. I disagree on Madden. I believe he has a bit to work with and may grow into a good organiser.

Can he organise deck chairs on doomed ocean liners?

Disagree all you like - Lui was amazing coming through (2 x 5/8 of the year in a row if I remember) He made that comp look absolutely stupid... Still didn't make an NRL Player - For whatever reason.

I don't know how much work you mean by "A bit" but from what I've seen - He doesn't have enough time...

Lui had issues coming through including fitness and poor defence. Perhaps the scout who signed him from Townsville and the coach who promoted him to first grade saw enough in him to give him the chance.

I don't know how much work you mean by "A bit" but from what I've seen - He doesn't have enough time...

You're deluded. Lui and Madden have had very similar trajectories as juniors. Lui was probably in stronger youth teams coming through the ranks which made his job easier. He was a better runner than Madden but Madden is far more composed and strategic.

Yo also have to remember Madden has had half his career wiped out due to covid, which has severely hampered his development (and that of all young players in nsw)

I haven’t seen him play in a long time but coming up through the juniors he was easily the best player in his age group in Penrith.

He has been named in the Flegg team. This appears a strong side with Roberts and an interesting young forward from Kempsey, Selwyn Smith. He seems to be one of those clever ball playing second row forwards (used to be locks in the Langmack style).

We’ll be missing him for the whole season. Because even when he comes back, he won’t be the player was the last 2 years. He needs to get through to next pre season unscathed and come back bigger and better in 2023.

Frizell has been a great player but any suggestion of taking him on at this stage of his career is unpalatable.

Garner is a piece of mud on Frizells shoe
