I'll be the elephant in the room here - I wouldn't be going after Paulo - for the sort of money he will want I'd be putting those funds towards luring a top shelf halfback to replace Brooks.

Like who?

All kinds of young talents could pop up from now till then

True. The half , 5/8 combo is critical for success.
Hopefully by mid to late in season 22 we have a good idea who is our long term 5/8 and what Hastings position is.

I'd have Logen Dillon as our fullback...something about this kid has star quality. Laurie our long term 5/8 and Hastings in at half-back.

Dillon is one I can't wait to see. I daresay he will make an introduction on the wing at some point.

Scolari is ahead of him on the wing. Dillon hopefully will be working hard on his defence and getting that clanger out of his game. Scolari is a committed defender, good under the high ball, runs the ball hard and has the pace to finish.

No doubt Scolari's a better wing prospect. Dillon is a far greater attacking threat and more complete fullback prospect. It depends who they're buttering up first for a taste of first grade.

I'd say Dillon next in line for fullback

Sheens was always known as the "recruiter" and has that magnetism to attract players. Credit to Warren McDonnell as well as I'm sure it is a team effort.

I was of the understanding that players don't want to be coached by Madge.

It's looking more and more like Hartigan couldn't close a cupboard for us let alone a contract.

Yes - which fueled the whole no one wants to play for Maguire agenda - strike one when he is gone. Did well in some areas, but if your position requires you to recruit players to the club, you have to get the players needed to strengthen the FG squad first and foremost.

The largest cog in the recruitment wheel is the coach. If he can't get the job done, which is consistent with results on-field over the last 3 years, you need to change up gears. Sheens and McDonnell are now the face of recruitment with immediate results.

Yeah I'm sure Sheens got the Peachey and Papali'i deals done via Zoom in the UK, and McDonnell was so good he was even doing the leg work before Tigers re-hired him.

Well I’d be shall I say, a little annoyed if one of our players did this.

Can I also please make a point, despite all the off-field nay-saying and wrist slitting in the aftermath of Rd 25 and lack of immediate signings on November 1st, once again it is being proven that Tigers have become a fairly shrewd and patient off-season recruiter.

Certainly Tigers missed out on a few big mid-seasons names that we threw our hat in the ring for, but look at the off-season track record now:
Papali'i 18/Nov/21
Peachey 08/Oct/21
Daine Laurie 07/Feb/21
Tuki Simpkins 05/Jan/21
Joe Ofa 29/Nov/20
Jimmy Jew 19/Nov/20
Douiehi 30/Jan/20
Stefano 29/Jan/20
Harry Grant 23/Mar/20
Luciano 30/Nov/19
etc.

We should try that trick to get Papa out of eels a year early!

I still wonder where Dogs are getting all their money / cap space from? That's a lot of coin tied up in a small number of players now - Cotric, JAC, Kikau, TPJ, Burton etc.

So we should hold on to someone who is not in our best 17 because they might come good elsewhere? That's ridiculous.

We need to examine the reason(s) why. Garner is a fine line breaking forward. Most times he receives the ball he makes half breaks and looks dangerous.

I feel like you have a different definition of "most" than most (my definition) other people...The high point of his game is running good lines off Brooks which he does from time to time. The low point is planting his feet in the defensive line and creating problems either side of him.

There is no issue with his attack. He is a great attacking forward, as is Leilua. The issue is the way they are being utilised.

Their performances are completely on them. There is no need to bring the game plan/coaching into the discussion.

I wouldn't have minded us having a go at Kikau but only because I didn't think we were a chance of landing Papali'i, who I think is a much better option.
That's going to be an extremely top-heavy roster at the Bulldogs, with quite a few players that have problems with consistency and effort...

Classless by the Bulldogs as well

Man do the dogs have a salary cap or not? How many players is that now?

Rumour is Kikau has been signed for at least 800k for 4 years. Thats what the Cowboys offered and Bulldogs still jagged him.

Very poor form from Kikau, Gus and Barrett.

Deliberate by Gus to try get him early no doubt - not that they have any money for him.

Shades of Auckland Blues Benji, not a good look for anyone involved

I would much rather Papali’i. Also how much did they pay, Read said he turned down the Cowboys who offered $800k a season for 4 years?

stoked the dogs got Kikau, another high risk player that will struggle being out of an elite system that will most likely fail on big dollars. we managed to sign the best back rower on the market not named Angus Crichton.
