Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

A few more Wins based on the Effort and Intent being shown by the squad this year will see us land the players that we want as opposed to the players that are available.
Man, you took my post!
🤣
I was just thinking the same thing.
If we continue to fight and beat a good team then our perception goes from a team going nowhere to a team going somewhere, sounds better hey,

Iam not sold on Laurie, his support play is poor , he does nothing around the ruck , yes his last two games were better but us still only average , would love to have drinkwater at the back .
I'm with you bro.

I know he's built a little following with his decent game the other day.

However he is not a well rounded fullback in my eyes.

Hoping he keeps improving and proves me wrong.

If the Dykes rumours are correct I would sign him up asap and keep Laurie waiting. No need to panic resigning him, his size is a weakness. Garner is no loss, reserve grade plodder, Aitken is way better in both 2nd row and centre positions.
Who’s dykes for my own reference ?

His main issue , much like Toa last game and the game before , is the perpetual motion required of a fullback , especially close to the line in defence .
He lingers at the ruck at marker when guys are ripping his should saying GTFO , so he gets caught on the opposite edge out of position .it’s a big reason why our goal line defence against kicks is diabolical.
You can say it’s a fitness thing , but I think it’s more of a situational awareness thing .
To me Dillon has it , he’s just too young at the moment . This type of stuff is why we let go of Papenhuyzen. He did the dirty stuff well , but lacks the flash of someone like Laurie . Too bad paps is lightning , so the ball playing could be taught .
Just my take .

This is why we should give James Roberts a role in the club after he retires to help out the Koori Players like Laurie so he can achieve his best and stay out of trouble.

I see a lot of upside with Laurie and hope he stays and develops to a fine full back. Hope we sign Dykes as well as competition for spots is always a good thing.
So we should give a guy who's battled off field issues all his career, and still is, to guide our indigenous players? We couldn't pick a worse player for that role. Not sure what happened to Tahu, but we need someone who's performed consistently well in the NRL for this role.

This is such a myth, he is 2nd on the player in support stats of all fullbacks. Leader is Issako.
*on average, per game*
Random meaningless stats. How often have we bemoaned the complete lack of support in our first grade squad? We very rarely have anyone following through in support, and when we do it's practically never Laurie. Even though that's his job.

I don't care if he busted his ass and supported 6 plays in 6 mins in one game if he does bugger all for the next 5 games.

His there, he just isn’t getting the ball.

From a development perspective both Dykes and Hopgood are very very good targets

Dykes a speedster creative fullback

Hopgood an offloading and tackling machine, that can also give you 150 meters a night

Happy with this…. just hope we can attract some proven solid first graders, hopefully we go all in on Tapine imo

I hope we sign hopgood .if Penrith get a few injuries he will be back in top grade and his price will rise

Tapine would be awesome @Demps

From the DT
A host of NRL clubs are already circling members of Western Suburbs victorious Harold Matthews side. The Magpies won their first Harold Matthews title when they beat Cronulla last weekend. Already the likes of Luke and Kit Laulilii, Jordan Miller and Tallyn Da Silva have attracted interest from rival teams

It's a terrible system we have in the NRL. The way teams poach other teams juniors is tough.
It makes you wonder, what is the point in developing juniors. Introduce a huge transfer fee, that might work.

Sorry random thought. A couple of years ago we had a young Aboriginal centre play in a trial games (something like Madison Johns or like that). He seemed to have right build and had a good games against seasoned NRL players. Always wonder what happened to him given Centre has been an issue over the years with WT.

They seem to clean out the State Cup side every year.
