Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Yes correct , poor bloke just cops it left right and centre. Not sure what these haters really want , we finished last, we have install sheens and co , to right the ship . So far they have signed KLEMMER, Bateman , Staines and hopefully Moses now if that’s not a great start , I give up . How about we start supporting our team , or at lease untill
Are you keeping me in suspense with that last sentence? Coz it’s working - or at least until….,,,,,,?

From that video highlights package, Welsby looks out of the box. Call me irresponsible but I'd roll the dice with him even if he costs us big bickies. He's 21, very fast, can pass, can tackle and has a bit of aggression in him. Plus he's only 21. I'd much rather invest in him than Moses.
He's locked in till 2025. I doubt st Helens would let a talent like that go easily.

Yeah, I’d be dead keen if he had one position. I don’t know English league and from what I’ve heard he can play everywhere by the sounds of it and I am sick of a team full of utilities. If he grew up a FB and that’s what we are getting him for then ok. I can see he’s a go’er but where would he play for us?

He also reads the game well.
Welsby is at a stage in his career when he needs to join an NRL club and establish himself in a particular position. I’m thinking FB?
He’s a local junior and contracted to Saints for the next 3 years though? How do we get around that?
We have an experienced coach who undoubtedly would have plenty of chits lying around out there?

If we can release one player and sign Nathan Brown and Mitchell Moses for 2023 we will be a top four side. Imagine the top 17 for 2023.
Laurie
Staines
Naden
Doueihi
Maumalo
Brooks
Moses (c)
Brown
Papali’i
Bateman
Ofahengaue
Koroisau
Klemmer
Bench
Smith (Development Contract)
Blore
Pole
Stefano

not that simple. best to see how the new team gels boot out some duds before buying more players. dont do what the bulldogs did with barrett and stars

Are we really talking about bringing a back from Britain because they are playing "So well" there?

It worked out so good with Oliver Gildart and the Warriors loved Sam Tomkins?? not.

Cmon. As someone was making the point above, now is Toyota time for us not Mazzerati lets try experimental SHIZ whoops there goes supercar time for us.

Lets be reliable, consistent and get from 16th back to in the top 8.

We need a proven halfback and we need a gun fullback. Our Defence is our key issue and we need it solved. Importing backs from Britain will not fix defence.

Statements like " no club has sucessfully brought a case against the NRL & won" & there is no precedent" show why this club has the culture of losing in recent times. Without stating the obvious,a prececdent has to be set at some time by courageous individuals so others can refer to it. No one had climbed Mount Everest at one time till someone courageous did it. Your arguments of "No one has ever done so we cant , or there is not precedent" so we cant is flawed reasoning & loser talk . For example, we had no chance last year to win the premiership , so applying your reasoning, we should not of fielded a team & try to complete. Abosolute baloney.
The other cases you refer to were individual bad ref decisions & those mistakes are part of the game. The Tigers case was different as there was multiple errors & to top off the coruption a review was given to the Cowboys & a legal review from the Tigers was denied. The Tigers had the oppurtunity to expose the corruption for the good of all the clubs, & show their mettle in the process. We weakly decided to take the course you clearly support. As a result , the NRL has now been given the mandate to blatantly do whatever they want.

Both Dennis Tutty Terry Hill and the toothless souffs have proven that you can beat the governing body if you have a decent case and a will to win.It is only a matter of time before the NRL get beaten again imho

I don't understand why we would sign Brown to play lock. We have a lot of middle forwards and i see Brown being the same as Joe O. Hard runner of the ball, good defender but has no ball skills. His post contact metres and offload stats are actually lower than Joes. I just don't see any value in signing him. I can see our starting pack as :

8 - Klemmer
9 - Api
10 - Twal
11 - Paps
12 - Bateman
13 - Joe O

14 - Uto
15 - Pole
16 - Blore
17 - Matamua

Add to that all the young guys chomping at the bit to get a run. To me signing Brown would just be a waste of a Top 30 spot.

Great bench.

I think Brown would be a contingency plan for injury cover and if Matamua isn't ready....

We have been chopped by injuries badly the last few years so a player like Brown could prove to be an important squaddie.

If the price is right - it's a smart signing.

He's experienced.
1 year deal with a CO for a second one, why not....

We don't want a crisis and have to throw the rookies in the deep end.

Sheens likes some experienced depth as shown in the last when bringing Ray Cashmere back or Pat Richards....

Do the tigers really need nathan brown??? With all our junior's about to try and debut hope another club doesn't come along and offer them 1st grade cause we've blocked their path???
Hadn't seen your post when i posted something similar. I agree - its just a waste of a spot in the top 30.

Yeah he's more of a lock then Offa.

I want Offa off the bench for experience.

Brown for two years with the 2nd year he makes way for Matumua and is kept as.depth.

They were substantial cases about mistreatments.
It doesn’t seem in the spirit of sport to mount a legal case to overturn the result of a game.
Where do we go to after that?
I can accept the outpouring of emotion after a loss, but to go legal in order to get the NRL to overturn an on-field refereeing decision? I don’t wanna see it.

No of course we don’t need him. It’s just that he fits the profile...unwanted by his club. Has worn a WT jersey in the past.

You’re right Champ, the degree of difficulty is important when considering the achievement. Like Macartney- Snape going up that north face without supplementary oxygen.
Ok sure his doctor was amazed at his capacity to find enough oxygen at such an altitude, but the point is nobody had ever done it. And I think his mate Mortimer went most of the way too?
Macartney-Snape himself was built for climbing and the important thing to remember is that he realised his full potential. Winners are focussed on doing just that. We should be looking forward, not trying to overturn past events.

Need another experience forward Brown or someone else very light on the bench

So here’s why u sign brown , he has more offload in him than any forward we had last year . With him big joe can play front row , because twal has very little go forward but is maybe our best defender . As for the young guys they need at least another 1-2 years and they can learn off our new pack . Watch how much pole improves with KLEMMER and Bateman and co around him

Brown's offloads are a myth - in his last full season being 2021 he had 18. Joe O last year had 33. Tackle Breaks and PCM - Brown 20 and 940 Joe O 57 and 1171. Tackles made - NB 745 at 92% efficiency. JO 882 at 93%. The only area where Brown outperformed JO was in running mtrs where he averaged an 129 pg to JO 122 pg. He is almost an identical player to Offo. I really don't see the value when we already have a similar player. Also given his form last year where he was our best forward Joe O needs to be on the field more often than not so put him on the bench would be a waste.
