As a bench player $600k isn’t great so him moving on is a positive as he doesn’t offer us more than Stef/Pole or Klem.

Hopefully we have something in the pipeline being announced over the next few weeks.

My thoughts: I have watched him, has trimmed down and lost some bustling impact, but playing longer minutes, fitter and playing OK. Starting on the bench level.

Exactly, getting rid of an expensive contract for a 40 minute player is a win for the Tigers. I don't understand why people think we need to get someone in return. We have guys coming through and more cash in the back pocket to make a splash!
 
Joe O for 600 plus was a really bad deal.

Once he became a bench prop...it became a horrific deal.

600 for 30-40 low impact mins off the bench. No club can afford that.

We signed him on starter / borderline rep level money. And he is now a bench player.

Offloading that deal is a masterstroke.

Staying ahead of your cap is never a bad thing.

If there's a big fish on the market at the time, you're well in the fight, if not, contracts remain front ended across the squad which keeps cap space available into the future. This future-proofs your options when it comes to the future player market and can insure teams against having money at the 'wrong' time only, as we have now.

Eventually, the market turns and it's a buyer's market flush with quality off contract players. Front-loading and being patient with your funds allows the Tigers to sit in wait and be well equipped to make an impact on the market at that time, whether it's '24, '25 or '26.

These decisions aren't always about the current season only...

Thats code for Forfeiting. Better run Clubs never need to have Millions in the hope of a player becoming available 2 years from now.
