Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The story goes that Jack Gibson who played for Wests and was well known in betting circles came in to the dressing room and announced that the fix was on and the magpies wouldn't win. It was never proven not disputed and may very well have been a motivational ploy by Jack.
. . . . . . . . . . or maybe a ploy by Darcy Lawler to collect 600 quid for his retirement fund. 🤣 🤣 🤣

You mean after they’d been coathangered every tackle, had there eyes gouged and been punched in the head every time they ran into a defensive line?
Boys against men.
Only if they got hold of them. Which they wouldnt very often. There are plenty in the modern game who could punch on no worries.
Imagine a modern winger setting course for the corner v an old school winger. They’d score every single time. The old school defensive tactic of having the lock sweeping would be ripped to pieces by modern halves.
It would be a slaughter.

Mate, the 2024 sides wouldn’t have to hold the ball for too many tackles in a row. They’d blow those 50’s boys into outer space. I’d suggest they’d score on average ever 8 or so tackles…all game long.
In defence, they’d wear the 50’s boys out through attacking them with multiples and working them over.
Yes that sound’s feasible! However have you considered the the 3 metre rule? Six metres compared to 20. It is this extra space that allows many of the modern plays. Then you have the physical contest of a scrum. Competitive scrums are a different beast - energy sapping and require a different style of fitness. No modern forward would survive.

Modern forwards are as fit as hell and are far better defenders. They’d wear the old school guys out.
Modern halves are far bigger and more aggressive. Theyd pummel the line as would the three quarters. It’d be 6 old school forwards v the whole team.
There’s no way the 50’s boys could keep up.

I guess having them play under the old replacement rules or 10 interchange rules would make a big difference

It was the 3m rule back then…pretty hard not to get hold of someone.
Don’t forget contested scrums too… and unlimited tackles.
Plus no replacements running on and off.
Modern players would never win a scrum to have the ball.
As for wingers setting sail for the line?
There’s no one playing today as fast as a bloke like Ken Irvine… they would never have caught him.
Plus no try if you touch the corner post.
Impossible to compare the two games.

Did your source mention when this will be announced by the club ? Makes sense to wait til after the GF.. but his signing could influence others to join, so there is an interest to get it out there ASAP..
Don’t hold your breath on this one Tom, I think it’s BS. He’s contracted to Penrith for a few more years and there’s no way they’d be just letting him walk, not without a fight. They’re losing too many already.
