Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Agree with most of that except for perhaps the first and last points. The Eels have improved out of sight and I think the Rabbits at full strength would be better than us and a lot of other teams as well.

Yep
- Cracks me up when people say Parra aren't a better side than they were last year,
Last year they were coming into the last game in last place. This year they finished 11th.
Surely by that logic - We've not improved either.

Usually the same guys will blame our season on Galvin leaving whilst ignoring the Eels played most of theirs without their best player and one of the best halves in the comp.

They're a better side than us, Can see it in their structure / shape alone.
- We certainly have 'some' better Players in 'some' positions, But they're a much better side.

It's mind boggling the number of players we lost over the years that went onto useful NRL careers.
But Jason Taylor caused the loss of JAC thinking he wouldn't make a 1st grader (don't know what he couldn't see everyone else could) and he wouldn't give Pasecka a taste of 1st grade (in my opinion he should have) so he left for Manly.

As for Tatola I don't know which knucklehead was responsible for that F up but he was a big body coming through and I remember thinking to myself why are they letting this guy go.
Remember Jeff Lima
We gave him 2 games...he went on to play 200+ here and england

Was thinking even in the last off-season trials how good their shape was and the flavour Ryles had added to it.

Tigers shape at times looks OK but not enough for mine, how many times do you see the attack in a flat line with no depth, this is one important area to fix for Benji to prove to us next year if he's improving as a coach.

The major thing for me forecasting our performance for next year is that this year we must of had the least weeks lost for players injured and suspended. Surely this will increase next year (or “regress to the mean”).

Whilst we were much improved this year by being competitive in almost every game (a huge leap forward IMO), I still don’t think we will have enough juice to make the top 8 next year.

Most people on here talk about who we can buy for next year to improve our roster. I agree we need a couple more astute purchases, but for me we need improvement in the players already on the roster if we are to be a chance of the top 8 next year. Hopefully Benji and his staff can deliver that.

What is all this death riding ? Pages and pages of diatribes of the same negativity black holes , who were by and large pretty much non existent most of this season / shouted off the forum . Is it going to be the same 5 or 6 dudes constantly reposting the same shit over and over in a feedback loop of shit , until the trials in February ?
Go get a life man …. Seriously ! The footy is over . The team went alright , about as expected . Certain players will be pushed down the pecking order like Toa , Seyfarth and co , and the team is clicking . Next year will be a real litmus to where the club is at. Until then , go get yourselves to the beach , go for a walk , check out the waterfalls all around Sydney up and down the coast , go to the many festivals going on , maybe watch some cricket ( I won’t - not my jam ) , and just live up the summer . Get yourselves heads clear of this joint . Especially right now . Misery likes company , and there’s some seriously miserable people here looking for a companion to wallow in shit with .
I haven’t read a single post from the usual suspects which isn’t. Repost of someone else’s misery , but rephrased . It’s almost like they’re copy and pasting to ChatGPT and saying “rephrase in another way” .

The ignore button brings bliss.

Would not call it death riding, people are just giving their thoughts on our sides chances next year. Some are positive, some are in the middle and some don’t see a top eight finish. Iam in the last group, yes I did see some real improvement this season, but I think we lack another hard man up front and we lack a game breaker. It’s all crystal ball stuff now, so we are all guessing.

Issue is teams can give players job's off the field within the current rules.

And those salaries could be anything.

Hence Roosters and Broncos have the most funds to do this. They aren't magically getting players to play for less under the cap, they are handing out high paying "jobs" to keep and bring in players.
Your 100% correct. For example the Roosters hooker is a full time academy coach at the Roosters outside of her playing role. The value of that role is decided by the Roosters so it could be any amount really. They have multiple players doing these roles and couple of them are full time ambassadors for the chooks. Clubs who have deep pockets can generate these particular roles. I think the Dogs will improve their roster as they have plenty of coin. I also think the Warriors will attract a few kiwis to go back home but unless our new coach can work miracles or our club wins powerball I can’t see our Nrlw team improving. I hope I am wrong.

I think Dragons are really building something.
2 X Couchman, Egan, Stewart, Halangahu are all going to have very good careers and is the making of a very strong pack in the future. Theres a few more highly regarded young forwards following them but it remains to be seen if they kick on should they reach first grade.
Who?

I mean sure, I have heard of Egan and Couchman... But meh.

It's the Eels that I suspect will build stronger. Though who knows...

I like Dragons young forwards, they could very well be the best crop of junior forwards coming through but Flanno is a shit coach IMO

2016 was a fluke

Probably an unpopular opinion. But I'd take Daine Laurie back on low wages, apparently doesn't have a contract for next year. He's an ideal 14/Cup backup. He'd be one hell of an ungrade on Heath Mason

This feels like a double whammy of overrating Laurie and underrating Mason. 6 years between and 75 first grade games between em dude.

I think the wool has been pulled back on Flanno.

James Maloney "I learned nothing from Flanagan". Which really shocked me, as here is someone who won a premiership with him. Heck, till I heard that I honestly thought he would be a good coach.

Flanno was kicked from the Dogs and Dragons because he is a bit of an asshole. He is back in the red/white because they are desperate.

Laurie was very good for us in his first year, and generally good until Bula leapfrogged him.

I don't see Mason making it to 75 first grade games. Laurie is a big upgrade on Mason, and I'm not really a fan of Laurie after the Panthers fangirling antics when he was here.
