It could be he comes under the veteran allowance which is included in development cap. Debuted in 2016 and was signed on a 3 year contract that year so would have been top30 from then - 10 years as a top 30 player and he can be signed as a veteran.

Thanks, had no idea veteran allowance was included in development cap.

Either way Development always sounded odd for someone like Bunty.

I actually like him and think he has something to contribute.

I'm guessing that the veteran's allowance is still only a one off payment regardless of how many players you have that qualify for that category.

Yeah - been that way for a bit, often see other clubs come up with a bloke been around for a bit and not quite ready to skip off to the ESL or hang them up all together. It’s good business for mine…

Few reasons we don’t see it here is we don’t do smart business often, we’re also too busy giving the development deals out to kids with no real shot of making it.
Also coming to a low club on a development deal isn’t real appetising - usually see it at the better teams.

I was chuffed (and shocked) to get Bunty under those terms…
Also see a few blokes on train and trial deals with a few miles behind them.

On the NRL site it just says Veteran and Development allowance is capped at $300k.

Wonder if there's an incentive for a top 30 deal in 27 if he plays well in the coming season attached to the dev.

As for the dev deals I was hoping that when Richo was running the ship we'd seen the end of the poor judgement in this area.

Now he's gone are they going to go back to giving out these contracts at a whim, already we've seen the knee jerk Benji decision.

Rumour has it that since the HBG power move, NRL players are lining up for interviews with Benji. My cousin's brother-in-law reckons he saw Tino with Benji last night.. he also reckons that Wayne Bennett will be released from Souths to come and act as assistant coach to Benji.

We really should appeciate HBG for the great leadership of this united joint venture.
