Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I do too. The thing I worry about with Shaun though is that he won't have the experience to push back on bad decisions by HBG and he may be more of a puppet. He seems quite timid. Like Pascoe was.
I don't think he will ever be their puppet as such. He was CEO at the Mariners for 9 years and soccer is far more political than rugby league when it comes to boardroom drama. So if anything, I think he'll actually be well equipped to handle the political side of it.

It's just a shame we couldn't keep both him and Richo at the club, i think there were benefits to having them both there.

Nah man. The mariners had private ownership. The board was basically a chairman (owner) and the executive team (i.e. ceo, cfo).

Much easier to navigate, especially when you probably had the top of the tree and experienced business leader making the right decisions. Would have worked in partnership with them.

Hasn't handled even close to the type of board hes about to encounter.

Except we hired the more expensive quote first with the agreement that if we don't provide him with brushes (board) he wants then we will pay him out and he doesn't have to finish the job. We then break our end of the agreement so we are not only paying him we need to then get the 2nd painter as well.
Paying 2 painters for one job doesn't save us money.
You'd need a whole team of painters to paint over the dodgy workmanship that is under the surface.

You would need to apply bucket loads of skim coat but that would eventually fail and come apart due to the unstable underlying structure.

Such a massive let down this off season with the HBG just deflating everything that has been done..
Without this happening I was confident we would have had Bula extended, another external player added but now the club cannot even update the main website. I checked every club's main page just now and we are the only one that has not been touched for like 3 weeks. It might sound petty, but they are supposed to be a professional organization and updating fans / members should be the easiest task.
There is no way we can attract a player here now unless we make the finals and our board do their job and stay silent.

Of course, I will be cheering them on and praying we make finals but it's such a letdown.

Wonder if the players are going away for a boot camp again this off season.

Have you been asleep the past few years?
Papali’i, Galvin, Tallyn all walked away from contracts. The club moves players on under contract as well.
In the NRL, contracts don’t mean a thing.
There’s some movement on at the moment that Polynesians have this incredible culture. All this talk of the rise of Samoa and Tonga and their future successes. I’ve seen two highly regarded players this off season suggest one of them will be in next years World Cup final.
It has been widely suggested that our club will embrace this rise and it will shape our identity moving forward. Benji is onboard. That’s the boys club I’m theorising about.
Yea, well a few things:
Samoan boys may stick together and Tongan boys may stick together. Sometimes they both may stick together but that's kinda like Aussie's hanging with Brits.

plus Charlie Staines was half Samoan and he seemed to be kicked to the curb pretty quickly without fuss.
I reckon Luai was ok with him being kicked because he wasn't putting the effort in.

Look I get it, if the culture turns to a Lazy boys culture... Were in trouble. Mainly because it's two families that make up 4 of our best players.
At the moment, IMHO it's working. We recruited Latu, his brothers have put in more then him. We recruited Terrell, Taylan seems to be an answer in the centers.

Yes, they may all want to stick together. Well we hired sets of families and we brought this in. No other recruit has outshone them IMHO, Hunt? Bird? Duds.. Klem/Paps/Bateman were largely underperforming.

Double down on culture, Pick your Tongan/Samoans but pick players known for high work effort. Create an islander culture where everyone plays for their mates.
I can't see any other way were going to outperform the other sides.

We were on track for a top 8 finish until the Galvin drama. It took us a good 8 weeks to recover.

Compare it to what happened with the warriors when Metcalf got injured.

Don't let context get in the way of your narrative though
On track LOL….we won some early games. You need to do more than that.

Fair enough. In his defence I don't think many in Australian sport would be ready for this lot lol

Disagree on Sam the times his form was questionable was when playing with leg injuries last season, how would you go playing with a limp, also think he has a higher ceiling than Blore.

We lost players yes but who out there would have had a better chance of retaining them I ask.

It's possible it could have been worse with anyone else the state the club was at the time.
LOL how can you do worse than lose players you tried to keep?
Accidentally kill them?

I couldn't be bothered arguing with him but this is the first year Benji’s had a decent team to work with.

Previous line-ups weren't strong enough.
What makes this team so strong in your mind? He had the team last year to make the 8 and if they didn’t shit the bed so hard towards the end, they would have gone damned close.
