Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The “sheeple” support him as coach.
You are very confused.

Satire and Parody of you aside - Why is it an act of groupthink for Wests Tigers fans to support Benji Marshall as our coach when the club has been inexorably getting better with him in charge.?? Actually why?? Give me two well defined and measurable reasons why supporting Benji as a coach means you've joined 'The Sheeple"? What does someone who has not Joined the Sheeple see that us sycophants don't?? I think its just a bunch of made up nonsense on your part Tucker. Don't give a glib one sentence answer Tucker, prove me wrong...

I don’t like that any attack on Benji the coach is seen by some as an attack on Benji the man and you must hate him or what he did for the club in his glory years as a player. Very juvenile take.
I feel like that argument is predicated on the idea that Benji's playing career, his knowledge of the DNA of our club, and the fact that he played in a grand final 5 years ago, is worthless in coaching terms. I don't think it is. It's also not the only thing he has going for him as a coach either.

Where are they going to assemble the firing squad on Benji's coaching career G, your place or Tucks lol.
When the time comes, it will be more than just Tucker and myself. It’s all fine in January, most are vehemently against seeing any negatives at this time of year. After a few losses in May and June, the outlook is very different. He won’t have many friends here if we’re languishing in the bottom 4.

That sounds like overly complicated nonsense.
This is a simple game. Be good at the basics.
100%.

How many so called professional players do you see that can't pass the ball equally well both sides, cannot play the ball correctly or even know the rules of the game.

You would think that would be a prerequisite to play in the NRL.

If the time comes,+ or - is a choice

They should stick to the basics....the capable ones that excel in the basics can.afford the over complicated stuff

You're just stating the obvious G, we have all witnessed the wild swings of emotions be it euphoria or panic/dread on here during the season.

But just think, if we have a bad run of loses and the forum is calling for Benji's head, we know where we heard it first 😁.

And if we’re having a good year there will be no credit for it by the anti Benji group. 😂
It’s the praying on his downfall vibes that’s what is weird to us supporters, we should all want the team and coach to succeed.

I’m not saying it’s a laziness thing at all. It’s a how hard have you worked to get here thing compared to others. Yes kids are bigger now that they were in generations gone by. It’s not the be all and end all.
I don’t want a team full of Polynesians just as I don’t want a team full of white guys, or aboriginals. I meant it when I said the team needs diversity.
Everyone commends the Penrith Polys and rightfully so, but how many titles do they win without Cleary, Yeo, Edwards and Martin?
The club culture can not be based merely along heritage lines. It has to be more inclusive and mean more.
But it is. There’s huge differences between kiwi to Samoan to Tongan to Fijian cultures . Then we’ve got a Lebanese footprint , anda couple of brothers and fair chunk of whites . For me I just want to w best footy players , I couldn’t give a shit what colour skin or where people are from . As long as they work hard buy in and want to wear the jersey. That should lead to wins . I don’t really understand diversity for diversity sake unless you’re worried about some kind of cultural coup . But that can happen regardless of skin colour. South’s turned on Madge and it was lead by the English brothers . I don’t think they’ve ever really recovered . There’s accusations of guys like LM and Walker getting favourable treatment once again that’s the “brothers” being the issue , so a different culture again. To me it’s more personality types . We had major issues with the 05 quad boys around 08-2012. The boys club was the issue . And it was basically bare 2-3 players an all white team .

Well, being accused of being a death rider is a new one. Congratulations for showing some originality.

I'm really excited to see what happens in a year to with the likes of Jack Attard (fullback) .. Heamasi Makasini (centre/wing) .. and Javon Andrews (5/8) playing in our side. 🙂
It's rare that 18/19 year olds kill it in grade off the bat and if they do, their bodies can't handle it for a sustained period.

I'm happy if they are all carving up NSW cup first and build some confidence, physicality and fitness. If they are good enough, NRL will come.

Attard is a bit older and from a good system, so he may get a run with injuries and would be good to see we have a genuine backup fullback.

Maka will get his chances too, but rotating him in and out until he matures a bit is the right thing to do.

Don't see Andrews getting a go this year, but stranger things have happened.

Good Shout
- I'm shocked at how many Halves can't throw a decent Spiral Ball.
Or can't pass both ways.
Kids could do it better in the 80's.

I know that a few halves legends have given one on one training at certain clubs but obviously it isn't spread enough across all clubs and probably has to be done earlier in junior careers.

With coaches now being able to have 6 bench spots named to use only 4 I can see him get a run if he sets the world on fire early in reggies.

He wasn’t brought back to be a nsw cup player long term and Benji likes to play youth.

Gonna be a roster that competes for the first grade spots… been a while since we had that. Still think we are a block busting forward short, but you never know, someone may stand up and be that.

Right now we lack an organizational halfback, lock & need Hunt/Bunty/Pole to step into the pin roller style bash option.

Will be interesting how the team make up and Benji bench rotations work out with extra options at his disposal.

You are the one who introduced the term to this chat, I directed you to use it correctly.
Aside from the 2 spoons and 13th position finishes, the team still gets lapped a lot. It also fails to show up to big occasions such as sold out crowds at Leichhardt when playing must win games.
In 23 we had the worst attack and second worst defence
In 24 we had the worst attack and the worst defence
In 25 we had the third worst attack and 5th worst defence.
We aren’t improving year on year at all. There was a slight improvement last year as there should have been considering the players we brought in. That’s not necessarily good coaching, that’s better players producing better results which they naturally do. Still lost far too many games including a dreadful end to the year that good coaching would have overcome.
It should also be acknowledged that quite a few players left this club because of him and his approach. Whether that ended up being a good or bad thing, it is still an a negative mark.

If I could applaud anything in his coaching, it’s the level headed way he handled the Galvin saga. Whilst everyone around him made fools of themselves including Richardson, he was stoic and displayed great leadership.
