Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

That's the Problem,
This club built itself from that shitty Flashy footy and not hard work.

Without pissing on your comment mate, the game was very different in 05 (Obviously)
But to double down on that with a couple questions
- How long you been watching the game?
- How many Prime Benji Marshalls have you seen in that time?

That footy works when you have a once in a lifetime talent conducting it Mate.

2005 is the best (and in some ways) the worst thing that ever happened to us,
We've hung our hat on it for too long - Sheens was still dining out on it 2 years ago.

It took the good coaches 1 off season to nullify the game we built that year,
And took us 5 years to rebuild / recover.
Lost in the Marshall discussion is the need to not get absolutely monstered in the forwards. Benji’s success came largely when we had competitive forward packs. In 05 guys like Laffranchi, Payten and Heighno really became top liners.

It’s what we need from our young pigs in the current squad.

Talking about Javon Andrews

You said you don't know if he fits into the 17

And my comment was he could be the Tigers AJ Brimson

Both played for QLD both played 5/8 both broke there backs both kick goals

Maybe if Bula leaves he mite can a run at fullback in Reggie's
From the little I've seen I don't think Andrews is fast enough for fullback. But with a full professional off season we'll see when he gets on the field.

I'd currently have him as a bigger, slower, benji type. Side steps and flick passes but without the electric speed.

Hopefully as he continues to recover from back injury he keeps getting faster and stronger.

Again we have stuffed to add a lock , THE one position that we don’t have a dominant player to fill , we missed out on Curran and now Elliot , do we REALLY want to play finals ur we just pissing in the fans pockets
I don’t know if we tried for either player but given we’re a basket case again we won’t be landing anyone worthy for a long time. That could be why we didn’t sign them.

Yes, the forward pack matters. 2025 was a huge risk and T May's personal efforts got us a good pack. Adding KPP and Bunty should mean we get a really good pack

But wait there is more!

I see the other critical weakness in our Center/Center-wing pairings. 2020-2024 we could never defend our edge.

Till 2022 that problem was Nofo + whatever rando he was paired with.
The one thing I saw in 2025 that was different was Sunia Turuva. Yes he is fast, but not the fastest. Yes he is short. But he combines with his center to defend and hold the line.

I see having Centers + wings who can defend together and form attacking combinations as KEY.
We haven't had a good center since Chris Lawrence.
Pat Richards was awesome on our wing, even edging retirement.
Our backline meant teams who wanted to get us in 2025, went through the middle. The Storm/Penrith wipeouts were all through the middle.

A good forward pack + good backline/center-wing combinations means our defense becomes a lot more tough. Spine is still rough, but if our middle suddenly stops being a speedhump 2026 may start looking good.

Only 4 premiership winning halfbacks current in the NRL - DCE, Adam Reynolds, Cleary and Hughes…..Soon to be AD
Ben Hunt and Jerome Luai come to mind.
Both ring holders, but neither getting a premiereship as a halfback.

It's nuts that Adam Reynolds can be resigned by Brisbane for 500k. Absolutely nuts, with Hunt too it's crazy.

Lol you get a like for the Demtel man, well played.

So why are we not still signing players , we got two spots left and I THINK we got some money left.
The backs are strong the props will do a good job , the backrow is good , we just need a high work rate lock and I think we can make the finals this year , or it will be the same old story come the finals

I think right hand side defense continued to be major weakness last season, and a major reason we have signed KPP

Again, we’re a basket case. We are not going to be able to sign anybody because once again players will be weary of joining us. Just because we have spots and maybe a little money doesn’t mean players will come. My guess is we’ll upgrade who we have here to top 30 to fill the roster.
