Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

We have a bit of a problem with Bula. We have about three kids who potentially could be very good fullbacks in a couple of years, but short term are not nearly ready. There are a few good options at other clubs, one that comes to mind is Stewart at the Raiders who is being held back by Weeks. The trouble is, if you sign a outsider your blocking the pathway for one of own kids.

Previously I have advocated to take up Bula’s option, than would give us time to get one of the kids up to speed, Iam now thinking just get him out of the joint and move on if he knocks us back
I don't think anyone's path would be blocked by the likes of Stewart. Either they are good and surpass him or ordinary and won't. You wouldn't need to offer more than 2 years to a player of his status.

I have no idea why they want him to be honest… I think Bula has been average a while now…and I don’t particularly want to pay him a million a year …. Tracey might come about half that but can do a job for 2 years IMO..there is a reason why he is cheaper …

Drinkwater would be even better … there was a rumour they might be prepared to let him go at the end of this year to accomodate Purdue …

Do you have a better plan rather than lamenting about what has occurred previously ?
That’s my point. Fullback is the most important position on the field, and we will settle for someone who can just do a job. Bula will sign for unders there in a push to get them a premiership. I’m not saying we had to keep Bula but if the club wasn’t so short sighted we could’ve looked at a signing where we came out on top here.

Who did you want who has signed elsewhere the past couple of months whilst this has been going on? Purdue was never coming IMO…and he remains a question mark at the position …

They gotta move on ..and any candidate will work out they will now be looking for a stopgap …

That's the bigger concern. Why don't they want to be here? Is it as simple as our results the last 5-10 years or is there more to it?

I can’t say I know the reasons ..but I’m assuming that’s the case

To be fair though … Ben Teo isn’t Renowned for being the ultimate team guy. He’s pretty much Wayne Bennetts Sistine Chapel in getting buy in from a guy who 99 times out of 100 is a cautionary tale for shit attitude .
Heard a lot of commentary yesterday saying its not uncommom for assistants and head coaches to not see eye to eye on things...at all clubs.

For Teo to quit being the headstrong guy we know he is, things mustve become quite untenable with Maguire

If Bula goes, we need to go all out to lure Ryan Papenhuyzen or Joey Manu imo. I can see a world where it happens.

Papi, Sua Faalaago, Gray, Sharpe, Koula, Iongi, Weekes all signed new deals recently or since Bula’s been under Moses.

Wasn’t he the one who lead the revolt against McGuire at souths with Burgess ?
I can see why he quit . Probably was convinced the bloke had changed , and then got back with him and was like “this guy is never changing”

Bula isn’t that big a loss. Not for what we offered him. I’ve heard Connor Tracey has been great for the dogs. Who knows. I reckon there is a plan in the background here from Benji.

Am I the only Madge sympathiser?

He won a premiership last season, regardless of what you think of how he won it. But there is always people/journo's after him.

I hate the he's too tough narrative.

I was always on Madges' side.
And am still a firm believer it wasn't him - It was us.

He was never not in the Media when he was with us, and now he's at the Broncos it's just more of the same... More Madge.
I don't think him being too tough is the problem, I think his intense personality is the problem.
As I said, I was always on his side - But I can't listen to him anymore,
Its always the same narrative and delivery (Just different colours)

I couldn't possibly imagine having to listen to him all day every day and working for him.

As it stands, Madge is right - What he does works or worked.
Unfortunately for Madge,
History also proves that his shelf life is very limited in any organisation, And I
Reckon History isn't far off doubling down.

Broncos have just lost their best Player, and A coach they Rated so well that they fought off multiple raids to keep in the last 12 months - and been blindsided by both.

I was a staunch believer in Madge and his work ethic since he first came to us,
But I just can't listen to the bloke any more - It's torture.

A current Wests Tigers playsr said exactly what you just did, there is no off switch. His constantly intense bordering on impossible to talk to. Like you say, its not the hard training, its the constant mental environment he creates.

I was served a bit of criticism a while ago for similar comments about him B.

Finished up saying he always seems to have a use by date stamped on him, his age doesn't suggest cranky old fart, but certainly must be an abrasive kind of dude.
