Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Quite a few of us on here are talking about Canberra 's "outs".

I've already asked a couple of times if anyone has heard about Api's medical status.

According to Rob Jnr on the "Claws Out" podcast Api left training with a very noticeable limp on Monday just gone.

With no one replying should I take it none of us have heard anything and we are in the dark?
Last I checked he isn't listed on the NRL.COM injury list.

If Herbie Farnsworth decides to test the market come Nov 1, is it worth throwing some good $$ at him?

It's common knowledge the Chooks want him.

The Tigers could promise to pay him even more if the cap increases, give him the opportunity to play for a team on the rise, under Benji Marshall, alongside some genuine top quality players & rising stars of the game including a fellow POM.......

.........as a counter offer to Uncle Nick offering of $3.5 GAZILLION dollars on a 10 year contract, with 3rd party sponsorship, a personal masseuse, a Ford GT 🚗, an O'Porto franchise 🍔 🍟, a share in the Coogee Bay Hotel 🏨 a brown paper bag 💰 ,half of Bronte 🏖️ and a Knighthood.

Did I leave a sombrero here somewhere?

Probably not. Both the Roosters and Dolphins will have much better chances and will throw big money and third parties at him. Our long term centres are May and Makasini (after a year or two on the wing). Better to focus on locking those two down and keeping them happy.

I don't think its really worth chasing any centres and wingers for next year, rather focus on retention of the Mays, Fainus, Bula and Makasini. Then build on the current Turuva - To'a - May - Makasini backline into next year with Skelton, Tavana, Herbert and Attard as depth for the back 5.

Princey 🧡

Princey brought up something that will be relevant to the Canberra game tomorrow (Thu) night.

He said Sheensy would have Benji on the wing with Hodgo & Fitzhenry for kick in returns in broken play.

Ricky Stuart is a student of Sheens, he has Keo Weekes, Seb Kris & insert other outside backs set up like Sheens had so our boys need to be smart and maybe even a little conservative with their tactical kicking. Any bombs MUST go to the corners, not mid field & if it's wet & or windy the kicks need be low.

Api was in the photos at the captains run today, seems fine

Based on our off contract players for this year, this is what I think we should be looking to do with each player and who should/could replace them (keeping in mind Roberts, Andrews and Haywood all move to top 30 next year):

Retain:
Bula - Retain (re-sign or activate club option)
Tony Sukkar - re-sign 1-2 year deal
Jeral Skelton - re-sign 1 year deal
Tristan Hope - re-sign 1 year deal

Leaving:
Luke Laulilii (signed with Perth) - Tyrone May or depth/back up backrower
Kit Laulilii (likely to Perth) - Extend Bunty or sign a young gun like Luron Patea/Patuki-Case
Mav Geyer (likely to Perth) - Ethan Roberts

Release:
Heath Mason - Javon Andrews
Solo Saukuru - Jared Haywood
Will Craig - Upgrade Attard or Tavana

Re-signing guys like Hope, Skelton and Sukkar are important for team depth given the addition of Perth and PNG looking to sign players from Nov 1. There won't be too much coming in this year as the talent pool thins out with the new teams coming in. Hopefully Godinet and Taupau Moors will be pushing towards NRL sometime in 2027

Making some sense.

Making some sense.
I think its crucial we are sensible this season and don't go out and sign any non-cheap externals considering we have all these guys coming off contract Nov 1, requiring upgrades:

Bula, Turuva, Taylan May, Terrell May, Makasini, Latu Fainu, Samuela Fainu, Fonua Pole, Hunt and Madden.

We need to be super strategic with our cap this season to ensure we can keep those guys long term. In fact, one external signing i would make is Tyrone May on a 200-250k deal as that will lock up Terrell and Taylan and potentially even help get them on 200-250k less combined. We should be trying to get a number of them done pre-Nov 1, however if i was them I would wait with PNG driving prices up.

Bulldogs have sniped another of our pathways stars, 16yo Monson Hopoate.

Another Hopoate seems destined for the NRL ranks. This time Albert Hopate’s son Monson Hopoate - nephew to John - is making a name for himself after agreeing to join the Bulldogs.
Any Hopate wasn't gonna stay with us regardless. It's a loss but it was inevitable
