Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Asleep at the wheel now we have to deal with the consequences.
I get why Benji wants people around him that he trusts because there can be no confidence at board level. They need him more than he needs them so if he wants 2005 boys around him we are going to have to accept that.
Pat Richards is a pretty impressive character just hope the footy managers buy in.

Sounds like a positive move and hopefully we can get Shaun announced as our permanent CEO very soon.
I did think Tim Grant would have been good as our NRL manager, but maybe Pat Richard’s has better business acumen qualities?
I loved pat as a player
But what experience does he have to be a GM of football?
If we compare him to Shaun, Shaun had plenty.
So what has Pat done?

Good ol HBG - we’re back to players becoming administrators to give feel good stories to fans to stop us from criticizing them.

If Richo wasn’t appointed we’d have Robbie farah as our CEO!

Quote from SM this morning “I know Terrell knows December was a crazy time for us but we’re now having good conversations”

lol… there you go. Our CEO saying HBG made the club a basket case in December. And SM admitting nothing has been done since. And people criticized Richo lol.

Anyone ever listen to richos story how he signed Wayne Bennet? He flew to England with a broken toe during a family holiday. His foot got infected bc of the air travel - he knew it was a risk. It’s still injured as a result. And he missed his family vacation bc he knew that’s how you sign deals. All SM has done since being appointed is have conversations with fans and podcasters to appease them for HBG.

Reckon we would have signed them first less, before Luai left the building. If they knew he was going to check it out before hand, they should have locked up the players they wanted asap.

Any decent manager will be holding off until November to see what offers will come in from PNG and Perth now. Even if the Mays and Fainus want to stay (which I think they probably do)

People gotta get their head around that come 2028, the salary cap is likely up at least 20 percent ..
"Likely" being the operative word. Things can change. E.g. a crack down on gambling advertising impacting revenue.

Fair enough if there are ratchets for increases to the salary cap but it shouldnt just be assumed the cap would increase 20%. Increases have generally been pretty gradual

The gambling advertising revenue thing is just a ploy from networks to try to say they are gunna do it tough,,,apparently the reduction in spend is $30m a year from them ..

“Likely “ is part of the gamble both sides take now …could go up more …they are predicting like double the TV money which is a big chunk of revenue increase …

Regardless ,.if they could get him ( and maybe his brother) done now..would be nice to steady the ship even if some might think he is on a little extra

Off-field signing/appointment in DT:

WESTS TIGERS PROMOTE PREMIERSHIP WINNER

Wests Tigers premiership winner Pat Richards has been promoted to become the club’s senior NRL manager – which is essentially the acting head of football.

Richards has stepped up into the role given former head of football Shaun Mielekamp is now chief executive. While he has done a good job since taking over from Shane Richardson, Mielekamp has not yet been announced as permanent boss.

Richards coached the Western Suburbs Harold Matthews side this year having previously been involved in mentoring outside backs in the club’s pathways programs.
If Chammas, a journo with no football experience, only opinions, can take on the Head of Football at the Chiefs, I’m sure that Patty will do a far better job with his wealth of knowledge.

Agree some bulk signing news would be very welcome. Not sure about the ins and outs of contracts but surely you work on the information available and then include ratchets e.g. your contract increases equivalent to the increase in cap.

Maybe ..I think he deserves a substantial bump in pay even if the cap stayed the same ..he has outplayed his current contract ( $700k) … I compare him to Fonua Blake on a $1m per …I think I would rather have May

And Tyrone - the brother in the UK.
All 3 contracts expire at the same time

i think Jarome was sold on the glory of spearheading his own club, in a whole country…
I think he was perfectly chosen by Chammas for this reason.

I’ve heard the math on it, mostly spoken by ex footballers…
‘It’s like turning a 700k player into a 1.2mill player’? I don’t see it working like that. they’re adding the tax (they’re not paying) twice it seems to me.

If a player is a 700k player, he’s clearing maybe 400k (in rough, round numbers) savy investing / accounting would negate that, quite a bit if they’re doing it right.
The reality is it would be turning a guy that’s on 500 ish back into a 700k player.

I also believe elite sportsmen don’t pay the std PAYG tax of the common man, not considered in the above…

For that he has to go live caged Up with the fellas he works with in a borderline 3rd world country…
Don’t get me wrong, there’ll be plenty dumb enough to think they’re all in for it - but the shine will wear off very quickly..

The Luais and maybe a couple other high profile names will be treated like Royalty from the higher ups
- most of the others will just be the outliers…
It's not borderline 3rd world- it's worse than that.

No footy experience?
Maybe hes never played the game but hes been involved in the top level for decades...he would have contacts everywhere, including all the.agents players and.coaches...other heads of footy.
Id.be surprised if.Pattys even close
