Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

2027

1.Bula
2.Tito
3.May
4.T'oa
5.Skelton
6. Latu
7.Douehei
8.May
9.Api
10.Pole
11.Sam
12.KPP
13.Twal

Competitive run on side, capable of finals footy.

Jock
Andrews
Fair halves cover

Sukkar
Roberts
Decent edge cover

Sione
Good middle cover

Royce, Seyfarth
Fair middle cover

Maka, Tino,
Fair 3/4 cover

That's 22 players for 2027 that you would consider capable NRL players.

Avarillo goes into the run on side somewhere and probably improves the backline cover by a fair way, being very versatile. If he starts, any of the above becomes a good back up.

The above looks like another cracking start to the season. Then a few injuries, rinse and repeat.

Leaves 7 spots.

I suppose Hayward and Lanyon we keep. Who else?

Toa wont be here mate, Averillio will be there, also Skelton is off contract is he not?

My god there are a lot of bedwetters in this forum......

Luai's output was next to zero for a 1.2 million dollar contract.

If we can ditch him to parra for a 200-300k loss then hats off to Shaun M for an outstanding piece of business.

It's win win, Luai plays best when he has a point to prove and has a chip on his shoulder. I expect a big game from him tonight and the remaining of the season, no more coasting until he gets to PNG........
Yea agree with this.

No knocking Luai, he brought some class to this joint.
When he started we really saw our defense improve and the riff tank.
Yet it's only been a tiny few games where he has justified the 1.2m The rest he either goes AWOL or really doesn't offer anything more then any other 5/8.

I just hope it's all ammicable. Luai can be happy playing a year as an Eel. We sign who we want and the player group respects all that is happening.

Dumb question is, whom are we spending the 900k on?

Wok is indigenous. Very involved in the community.

I think he only represented indigenous players till Luai signed. Think they've added a few more Polynesians to the roster since.

Woks a good bloke.
Lives down the road from me

I like Doorey,

Hes had a very underwhelming career though cos of injury. Like to see him come good and have a solid run.
Very good player. Absolutely no luck with injuries.

With Luai leaving and Hunt potentially off to Super League, we're probably going to have over 1 million in salary cap available in 2027.
Yea that's great.
Perfect time to address that 20-30 spot depth which has been really come back to bite this year with all the injuries. A prop or two should be at the top of the list.
Why lets upgrade EVERYONE not on the field?

Seriously who thinks this?

Several times, this year we have put our best 1-19 and gotten our butts handed to us.

We still need a dedicated 7, so lets upgrade our fringe players from minimum contracts to 200k-300k and make sure that bench is nice and warm.... Not.

A spare hooker to fill in for Api and not have him do 80 minute stints, sure.
A Center/wing that can cover the backline a bit. ok.
No one #21 and above should be on big coin. Keep then lean, hire first graders in the first grade run on squad. All our historical depth spend has been on upgrading a loosing side.

Why care about depth when our best side looses games?

Yeah having Luai for another season helps nobody. It’s demonstrated he can’t produce results on his own, he’s holding Latu Fainu out of first grade. It would just be a holding pattern. He’s performed the role he was signed to do which was always as much about off field stuff than on. Certainly not worth losing Samuela to go through the motions another year.

Hey genius, try naming the last time we had our best side on the field this year? I'll give you a hint since you don't have a clue and are talking out of your arse: it was against the Raiders in Round 8 when we clobbered them and were sitting equal 2nd on the ladder.

Name one game this season where we had our best side on the field and have "gotten our butts handed to us". We had close losses to Souths and Brisbane which were decided by a combined total of 5 points.

From Round 9 on-wards, we've had extended injuries to:
  • Jahream Bula
  • Taylan May
  • Adam Doueihi
  • Samuela Fainu
  • Kai Pearce-Paul
  • Api Koroisau (injuries, suspension and Origin)
  • Jarome Luai
  • Alex Twal
For most of those games since Round 9, we've been missing at least half of our spine and several starters yet we were able to stay stay close to the top 8 and maintain either a winning or even record. We've had to play middles on the edges, halves and wingers at FB, wingers at centre because our depth at the 20 and beyond suck which you would know if you ever watched NSW Cup which you clearly don't.

No one said spend big money on 20-30, fool. But you still need to spend some to make sure you're covered if you cop a load of injuries like we have this season and have to play depth players out of position just to field a team.

So next time you decide to spout off at me and run your condescending mouth, make sure you actually know what you're talking about.
