Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I like to look deeper than results, as that’s where the answers are. Luai was good against Cows, ordinary/ injured v Bunnies, then missed 3 wins through injury, not long after returning he was strong in the Raiders win at LO. Watching him closely he was the emotional leader on the field. Not sure on timing but around then made his PNG decision.

We were up near the top of the ladder when decision was made.

Could have been purely money. Guess we’ll probably never know.

His main positive impact was on recruitment, again results not reflective of that now, but there are deeper causes for those results.

Big question now is can we / how do we fill the void left.
I think if we are looking deeper, I think he contributed exactly the same as what he did at the Panthers - his stats show that. Exactly the same amount of avg. try assists per game, exactly the same avg. line breaks per game (2025 he only had 1 line break, but let's ignore that to be charitable). Shout out to @rugbygoated who called this from the start.

The truth is, he really doesn't impact the game at all regardless of the team he plays in.

We need a half that can consistently break the line and set up his outside men. We got exactly what it said on the tin with Luai and we were hoping for him to magically exceed his previous stats in a far worse team - that was false hope.

I don’t think that’s true man, he’s not foreign to being a 7
You don’t think a coach that tells him something more than “go out and express yourself” could have got more from him being the lead playmaker.
There’s plenty of proof that the good coaches can turn running players into decent 7’s..

The biggest mistake we made was not having decent coaching structure for him to come into when paying top dollar for a marquee player
I think if you check his Panthers stats, you couldn't call him a running player - he barely made many linebreaks there either.

Seriously if any of our injured players play in the world cup they should be farked off immediately.... People always ask why we are perennial losers......If this is true it would be on of the many many reasons.......We just don't act in a professional manner across the board in any regard.......
Remember when Richo came out and said players wouldn't play rep footy if they were injured and needed surgery because it would affect the Wests Tigers? Remember when we had a strong CEO? 😔

Not going to disagree with you from an attacking standpoint statistically. I pointed out that he was likely to end up at 6 and likely to be criticised like Brooks before he arrived.

What we will miss is the way he drew other players to the club, his defensive prowess on an edge, and the intangibles he brings to a team, like energy, and off-field I’m sure he was for a time driving better standards.

PNG signed him for that stuff and like it or not we’ll need to find it somewhere else.

Yeah I know the wraps on him for the intangibles and admittedly his defence was probably his best trait, but none of these have won us any games. We are 25% win rate with him in the team. That's diabolical.

So while he may bring all those things you say, it doesn't seem to impact what matters...the end result.

Like I'm sure he is also a great singer too...but if it doesn't impact the score each week, who cares??

It's not about what I think. They are allowed to choose under the rules.

I don't think you can dismiss them on those grounds.
You think players requiring surgery should play in the world cup ???

West's Tigers pay their salary not what ever 3rd world country that they qualify for......
Imagine paying hundreds of thousands for a player only for the player to then turn their back on the club and say, "I would rather miss the start of the season for the club that is paying for my employment because my home country is far more important than the country that pays my bills and gave me this opportunity" Talk about monoculture..... I would be peeved off as a club.

Most Samoan, Tongan and Fijian players would value country over club.

Ok Albo.... exactly what's wrong with this country, pandering to people who are not for this country first and will always choose their own over the country (in this situation, the West Tigers club) that provides them their livelihood and lifestyle. The NRL has some crazy rules in place; recruitment has clearly made some wrong decisions here, certain players are clearly all about themselves, exactly why this club will always be the embarrassment of the league.

Can you replace "structure" with "players"?
