IMO I think everyone is overly harsh on Maddens defence. I often see him make crucial tackles out wide but no credit on here?
Does Latu never miss a tackle?
He does get penalised for his lifting tackle; close to sin bin calls. But that's OK.
We know Luai missed plenty, which usually led to a try. Don't recall Madden letting in a try.
And I agree Andrews defence would improve dramatically given the chance to gain some confidence. He is bigger than Doueihi and passes the ball, kicks goals. Perfect replacement.

Latu is a way better defender …there is no comparison ..

I don’t particularly have an issue with Madden being the third half … but his defence is a concern..I wouldn’t want him playing every week from Round 1

I dont mind Madden missing a tackle, he is a small half, so thats understandable. What i dont like is his decision making. He often plants his feet too early and turns in slightly. This means he cant check and release out. That immediately creates an overlap and our centre and winger get exposed to a 3 or 4 on 2 and everyone wrongly blames them. Many times the opposition have simply passed the ball wide not doing anything special and score easily. When I look at the replay to see where we got stripped for numbers, its often Madden making the wrong decision.

Don’t think he goes that far away from the farm , I think he is heavily invested in his property and cattle , Newcastle would be perfect for him as Taree only up the road probably 1 hour , not sure that happens I think he stays a bunny at about $:850 k x 2 years

I just find it hard to figure if he was contracted with them until 26 that they would contribute towards 27
It’s possible but feels somehow unlikely to me and I’m not sure the Tele would know all the details, I find media contract reports unreliable as often there are manager narratives or agendas behind them

If the difference is really double the money $850k opposed to $1.7m ..I’ll predict he’ll take it from 2028 … doesn’t help the Bears a lot next year though when they are starting out ..

I think Madden’s attacking kicking game is a long way off. He’s ok as a managing half but I watch so many of his attacking kicks either be too far from the line, not high enough for players to get there, grubbers too long, etc. He fails to apply enough pressure when we are in the red zone to generate definite trying scoring opportunities or repeat sets. The really good halves leave him for dead with that skill set.

Ok … I don’t mean to come across as having a go ..perhaps a bit of pent up frustrations generally that people want to shoot down a legit media source …but then will post some other rumours they “heard” ( which seems to be code that they saw some Internet post from an anonymous idiot )…

We know that these players managers are talking all the time to some of these journos …so they at least have some connection and will trade information for some favourable coverage down the line

I still don’t necessarily believe much of anything these days , mainstream media or not … but I’ll rank one source above the other …

Good point. Posters put more stock into anonymous sources on forums than they do some media outlets.

His kicking game is reserve grade standard. He plays direct though. That’s about the only positive. He tries, I’ll give him that. But he’s just not up to it.
