Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Liddle needs to show something in 2019\. You can't live off potential forever. He either makes an impact or the Dogs can have him.

Chances are slim that Cook leaves Souths, especially with Bennett on the way.

Cook is a bloody good player.

Is worth that sort of coin? Not sure, but certainly shouldn't complain that we're looking at Origin & Test players.

I still have a lot of faith in Liddle, I just hope his body is right to go next season. I also hope he is given enough game time to show his talent

well this is interesting

I see the warriors have signed our once great centre signing, Tanee Milne. Cronulla are interested in signing Johnston from South .. Holmes, Duggan for fullback and now they want Johnston .. why .. ??. ST George, now that their Director of rugby league Ian Millward and head coach Paul McGregor have returned from holidays, they have re-opened talks with Jarryd Hayne again.

They have fullbacks in Dugan, Holmes, Moylan and are after Johnston.

Dragons want Hayne. They want that impact on the wing….
Also no one remembers their history 2009 Hayne ran through the Dragons to knock them out. I can remember him running through 7 defenders to score a try. So the Dragons will be interested and if they add Hayne then their season will probably improve.

I can see Johnson replacing Holmes. Man Cronulla have deep checkbooks.

a few of my m8's who r dragon supporters disagree, they don't want Hayne. As for Johnson that is a possibility but i'm not sure where holmes will go?, we will welcome him, we need a speedster and a player of his caliber

Speed is good. But we need a good back, someone who can play, who can set up plays and help defend the back line.
People like Hazem El Mazri, Brett Hodgson, Luke Burt, (totally showing my age) etc are very underrated.

Thompson is probably the closest we have to such a player. He is not enough and our backline needs stability (were about 1 solid center off stability).

We get speedsters, they get speedsters, it's just a race to the fastest and it's not intelligent. Where we can win is where our backline can gel together and give our speedsters a chance , i.e. the Center drawing the opposite winger in with a dummy, people moving to create an overlap, etc.

Pat Richards, Jamie Lyon and SKD(3 years ago) were really good at working out how they as wingers could get their centers across the line. I love that line from Michael Jennings "hey Semi may be giving me good ball", I.e. my job as a center is not to just pass to the winger and have him outrun the opposition. My job is to partner with my wing and create gaps to help our team score tries.

That is the thing I miss most about Rowdy as a centre, the number of tries he created for the players outside him, a lot of the time without even touching the ball was amazing. Look at the tries Tank an Lote scored playing outside Chris. Curse that hip injury.

Yeah, I'll be spewing if we're are interested in an origin player.

I know right. We struggle to attract anyone and yet some people are still saying they wouldn't want Cook. It's pretty unbelievable.

Mate ….. missing the point ...... would love an origin player but not and willing to pay what it takes ..... but with what we have ..... not a hooker ...... and particularly not Cook. He’s a one trick pony ..... now if you are talking about a Smith type player .... then you’re talking.
Just my opinion.

Farah will retire and Liddle hasn't shown enough to persist with him. Cook is one of the best hookers in the game. Enough waiting. Let's get the best players we can right now.

- He will be in massive demand and will go for top dollar
- Souths have the ability to top him up in 2019 to compete with other offers
- the only way for us to land him is to pay a premium over what will already be a massive salary, we hold no other particular appeal
- He will want a long term contract and will be 28 at the start of it with a game based on speed
- he has just had a breakout season, he doesn’t have a long line of top shelf form
- his speed based game depends on quick rucks and we don’t currently have the forward pack to deliver many of those

= risky signing in my view. Of course he’s a great player but you wanna know that a marquee signing is going to deliver value over the entire contract and work well with your existing squad.

Sooner or later our weakness in the hooking position will be realised.

So buy Koroisau and spend all the leftover cash on some props he can run off the back of.

all a club needs is 1 seriously good young player and then the get street cred.

J Thurstan. Cowboys

K Pongia - Newcastle
