failed to value some of our best junior talent in the past. I refer to Korobeite, JAC and Papenhuyzen. We also had poor coaches who appeared ill equipped to identify and harness their talents. Hopefully this will never happen again.

Papenhuyzen left before Teddy, nothing could be done to stop that one.

We should have demonstrated more love. I remember the comments about the kid been too small and injury prone yet he gets hit hard and bounces back up. We failed big time with these three players.

You could have loved Paps right into his ring but the reality was he was still miles behind Tedesco.

As Elsa says, let it go.

The issue was never who is better...

The issue was who wants to stay. Tedesco left the first chance he could to join the Raiders.

Got cold feet, but never committed long term. Actively flirted with Minichello and Easts all through Origin....

Yet we sat there passively snd hoped...and lost an ideal back up as a result.

A smart club would have seen Tedesco for what he was and pressed to see if he was serious. If not, we move on and have Paps ready...but let us know.

But not us. We sat there for the best part of a year waiting on Tedesco, who was never going to stay...and lost both.

You are correct Ellery. Someone in the Club should have been well aware of Tedesco's character and secured Papenhuyzen so we had one excellent option at fullback.

The only one left from that time is Pascoe

With Musgrove's signature we have 27 signed and 3 vacancies? I'd suggest as some form of coverage for wing and centre we get Mawene Hiroti? Souths released him end of 2019 season, apparently he wanted a bit more than Souths were prepared to offer for a winger who would spend most of his time in reserves. He can also play centre, is pretty big and can score tries.

I heard he is apparently on a trial second tier contract somewhere but I'm sure we would get him. I dont think its too late. I agree not a star recruit but someone who could start to change the backline with some speed and try scoring ability. If we can also snag JAC for 2020 season we would have good wingers for once.

Hiroti may be a star. He's big and fast and I think he's only 19 or 20. I thought I'd read somewhere that Tigers had an interest.

I think everyone knew about Tedesco's character? As fans we could all see it.

The bloke jumped ship as soon as he could...to a mid table Canberra! First chance he could.

Got cold feet, but never displayed anything to suggest he was staying. Always coy, always looking over at the roosters. If we were smart we would not have waited and waited and waited on him....fullback spot has been a disaster for years as result.

What about Gideon Gela-Mosby on a basic 2 year deal to keep Jennings & Co. on their toes for that wing position. JAC obviously being the target & lock-in for 2021 onward.
Still only 23, and not currently signed anywhere. As realistic as we are going to get for 2020.

The Tigers are showing discipline with signing targets and not paying overs. They are only going to offer extreme talents and proven origin level player big money. The reality of this is we will not get players as we are viewed as a weak club by players and player managers. We are doing things the right way and I applaud it. We need to build from within there’s plenty of talent on the roster Twal, Mikalele, Aloai, Leilua, Garner, MCK, Thompson, Mbye, Nofa, Brooks, Liddle, Seyfarth, Momirovski. Some veterans that can also help Packer, Benji, ET, Lawrence.

The club has identified rightly we are 2-3 strike players away from contention. If you can’t attract them you have to sign/develop younger players to make it happen.

I’d rather no news than paying overs for players who make us slightly better it will hurt in the longer term. The Storm hardly recruit any big names they sign them young and develop them mostly. Smith, Cronk, Slater, Inglis, Folau, Bromwich, NAS, Munster, Papynhuyzen, JAC, Vunivalu, Finucane, Chambers. I can’t think of any origin players they signed from another club.

Good post Tyga.

I think it is actually a sign of positive change that Musgrove, leilua & Parra Kid are the only signings. The three of them seem good signings at good value.

IMO in the past this club would have filled as many spots as they can with robert jennings/Jordan Rankin/Robbie Rochow signings.

This year we have $$$ and open slots and they to date havent been filled with dross. Thats a nice change.

The good value big name signings usually happen June 30. Someone falls out with a coach which has happened every year. DWZ, Waqa Blake, Mitchell Moses, James Roberts. We should just leave cap room for a big name and use it June 30 if possible otherwise front load a player that is part of the long term plans ie: Brooks and have the cap from moved forward.

Are you blokes the full quid this chat literally gets dumber by the minute. I hate being nasty but i literally cant handle the dribble. Tedesco on his way to being the best fullback in the world, paps a skinny kid with speed. You invest i teddy you hope he stays. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. There is zero teams in any from of rugby league that dont side with teddy. Paps did the right thing by him and saw a young superstar infront of him so choose to move as you would. Ffs stop blaming the club for that.

The fox was unproven had speed however wasnt great under the high ball and a week defender. Yes it hurt to see what he has become and yes we missed one but whinging about it won't bring him back.

Taupau disliked the coach sucks to be us.

Matterson was a grub again sucks to be us. We did the right thing though and let him go. You cant hold clubs ransom it doesn't work in this environment the players and managers rule the roost. That is slowly changing. Nearly every team that has a player want to leave has to let the player go. It actually comes down to the quality of the bloke and matto was ordinary,Moses was ordinary etc.

Start looking forward please. We have signed young talent we have missed on stars but really its on the club now to prove to the talent that we are worth coming to.
Madge has been here 1 year yes the last 8 have been painful but we need to give him his time to adjust and so far it looks positive.
Pascoe is doing ok, I understand the criticisms of him and that is worth debating moving forward.

This rant is over but stop digging up the past unless it has legit been talked about in 1000 pages of this thread and it still boring

As soon as I read hindsight and hope, I stopped reading. Hindsight and hope has got us where we are today. How about we adopt a professional approach for a change?

Lol really ? Wow ! Everything he said is how professional teams are run.
Also does everyone realise how hamstrung financially our backroom was in the 2010s ?
We just couldn’t compete . This was before the sheens debacle.
The moment we became a professional team, was the moment The Balmain side lost any resemblance of power. And I’m a lifelong Balmain supporter. They just couldn’t let go, and move into the 20th century . And the Tigers suffered because of it .
The financials are now there , so of course we can sign a better coach, better staff , better CEO (sorry Pascoe haters) and so on .
Just relax with this stuff Geezus.

There's a reason Gideon hasn't kicked on. May be the best winger to ever grace CC but I reckon he has missed his calling at NRL level. I don't know the reason. I also don't believe he is prepared to leave the NQ area from a few older articles I have read.

I think the build up to the 2020 season is a hard one for Tigers fans because we have money in the kitty and desperately want success - sick of being the butt of jokes when out for a beer with the fellas. We need to be patient. We are on the right path. We are pushing s*@t uphill compared to the glamour clubs. We are though, moving in the right direction. 2-3 established players in needed positions and we are 'top 8' bound. Unfortunately this mightn't occur in 2020 but we are literally maximum a year away in my opinion from becoming a contender....

Seems to be what we say every year!

Surely you feel that the next couple of years will be different? We had hacks in our high level ranks previously (for a long period). Get a sense its going to be tough as Madge won't pay overs which is what players expect from the Tigers but we are building a stable foundation which includes players who want to be at the club and believe in its long term viability and success.

Any club will pay overs eventually if they can't get a signing.

Honestly at this point, we need to do a Canberra.

Save our cash. Front end players (no idea how we would do this now) and prepare to sign 4 players together who either are up n coming stars OR who are playing well in the superleague together.
Yes it sounds rough but we cannot sign top shelf talent locally. We can only sign second tier players and heck we may just make the 8th once like this. I want to see the Tigers Roar and we need a long term plan.

I would suggest they were thinking that in terms of succession planning really putting the hard word on Tedesco as to where he saw himself next contract and if he was not sold on a future at WT to then do the best to keep Papenhauzen as back up rather than just let him go and hoping Tedesco would stay. Yes, still relying on words from Tedesco but I do think he at least would ahve been honest enough to say he wanted to test the market and see how he felt. That in itself should have set in train WT securing his back up just in case.

Tedesco was gone. He previously shown his true nature, why didn't they believe him?

Securing Papenhuyzpn was the smart play. We know he was slight but he is tough. That reminds me of Thurston. Hey, didn't we overlook him too for being skinny? We can really pick them.

Teddy wasn’t let go.

Paps was gone well before Teddy became a flight risk.

That aside at the time it happened we weren’t professional and right now still have alot of work to become professional. A successful professional work place keeps the best talent.
