Our management are deadset brain dead
Apparently we are baulking at the cost...but we were happy to pay way overs for Mitchell...I just don't get this mob

As I suspected Mitchell was a mistake. They’re now tightening the screws to massage public perception.
That way they refine potential recruits to those who really want to be here. Did someone cop a scolding over the Mitchell business? I’m sure there’s a lot more to this than we’re being told.

Are you serious? Someone copped a “scolding”. What are we 12 yo?

Why the hell would anyone “cop a scolding”? We made a legitimate and generous offer reflecting both Latrell talent and the clubs desire for a true marquee player. At the first suggestion that they were being screwed around they publically pulled the deal and publically said we will still have him if he seriously comes back to us.

Forgetting the media circus. What did they do wrong?

That's disappointing

Not surprising though.

No it's not

We do need to spend a certain percentage of our cap don't we?

Might as well spend it on AD and JL

They will certainly add to what we have

This is the problem that many supporters here have, but thankfully Madge and JP seem to have learned their lesson. “We need to spend the cap, may as well throw it at....”

That is the issue THIS year but when you throw money at at player, it’s not for a year, it’s for 2, 3 or (if we give Doueihi what he reportedly wants) 4 years!

This is how this club has screwed itself for decades. Thank god we have people in charge who can see it.

Does anyone know how much of the cap we need to spend this year?

I don’t but I can not imagine that it is actually a serious problem. We need to sign two more players onto the roster and I’m pretty sure that would go close to getting us out of trouble

You should not pay overs for players but it is something our club never seems to get right. Finally we may have someone in charge who understands this even though the reported money we where prepared to throw at LM was insane

Yeah I fully agree Madge knows a hell of a lot more about footy than I do so I’ll leave it in his cable hands haha

Madge has cable hands??

Yes. Useless for ball work at training but excellent if you need your phone charged.

The Wests Tigers ventured to the Bulldogs spiritual home of Belmore Oval on Thursday morning for a prearranged opposed session against Canterbury-Bankstown.
But there was no sign of one-time Bulldogs favourite son Josh Reynolds – the Tigers utility who has landed in the headlines over the last 24 hours after a video was leaked onto social media.
Reynolds currently has a calf strain and was not due to take part in the pre-season hit out against Canterbury-Bankstown anyway.

But the Tigers have thrown plenty of support around the former NSW Origin five-eighth who played in two grand finals for the Bulldogs in 2012 and 2014 – adamant there is another side to the leaked video which showed Reynolds verbally abusing a woman.
It was Reynolds who initially approached the NRL’s Integrity Unit and NSW Police in late November of last year to report the video.
Whether Reynolds is cleared to play in round one will ultimately come down to a decision from NRL CEO Todd Greenberg.

The Tigers have designed the off-season contingency plan of having captain Moses Mbye and new recruit Billy Walters both training at dummy-half over the summer.

**On a positive note for Wests Tigers the club is inching closer to signing Canberra Raiders centre BJ Leilua on a three-year deal.
Leilua met Tigers coach Michael Maguire on Monday and his agent Paul Sutton has been negotiating with the Tigers for the past week.
The deal is expected to be finalised over the course of the weekend with Leilua to join younger brother Luciano at Concord for the next three seasons.
Negotiations also remain ongoing with South Sydney young gun Adam Doueihi, the Balmain junior who is seeking a four-year deal to join the Wests Tigers. **

Currently out with a calf strain....

Injured already

Brain dead is correct. Bloody stupid. He would have made a massive difference but we’re going to be also rans again.

You can't be serious. He would not have made a ""massive"" difference. Did you check out the head to head stats that CB posted on (I think) page P2611 re CT and AD ?

At best AD is a minor upgrade on CT at full back. AD adds a ball playing option and a kicking option. CT is a superior ball runner and defender (based on tackles missed).

If AD wants $600k next year and a four year deal, then I can understand why we have walked away.

The big question is....

Do we stick firm and not increase our offer for AD
Or
Pay him the extra to get him here..

I am on the side of taking a punt on AD for 3 year and club option for 4th year if that is the deal breaker.. He has a lot of upside and covers KEY positions and not just a winger etc.. I understand people are saying we need to stand our ground and not make mistakes like the last few years but I don't see it been a big risk... In the next 2 years we lose Josh R, Packer, McQueen and Mbye is the year after on more money than AD wants and they give us hardly nothing in return.. As we all keep saying until we MAKE the finals its going to be hard to attract quality players even if we have money to burn so lets take the punt on a talented kid because if we don't another team will and we end up in the same position we are in now - All this money burning a hole in our pocket..

or the way we are going could just add 2 more fringe 1st grade players to our 30 to make the numbers and put our heads in the sand saying WE WILL NOT BE PUSHED AROUND....

AD is seriously about to be a break out star.

Corey is aging and average at best.

No comparisons really.
AD is superior with a higher ceiling.

Very logical post Jonesy.

We wont even be talking about Corey Thompson in 2 years.
He'll be another Mitch Brown who simply did a job for us because we didnt have the star player to lock a position down.
We dont love him, we don't hate him. He was merely a gap filler until we could get some one better.

Adam Douhei could be our fullback or #6 making the switch like Lockyer did for the next 7+ years.

This is clear as day.

Pretty sure Pascoe said that we did not offer Latrell anything like what was reported.

The figure most tossed around was $3.8m over 4 years. Only slightly higher than Josh Reynold’s.
Seems Doueihi wants a monetary reason to leave Souths and why wouldn’t he want a contract upgrade.

I said during the Mitchell drama the one thing that will stuff is overpaying on a long term contract. We've seen what this does to clubs. You can do this for players like Hass.

I want AD and BJ here but the deals have to be right for us.

He sharpened his passing skills playing fly half just as did Ricky Stuart.

Whilst we have.... no hooker.

Hows that logic?

If u were dying of starvation and some one offered u a bowl of potato but you hate potato... are u gonna eat it... or die?

I am no Levi fan... des knew he needed a hooker and snapped him up. What an idiot !!!
