I've said it before here but I do hope Benji succession planning is not getting too complicated. Some time ago Benji said Talau was a good potential successor for him and now talk of Doueihi being able to slot into 5/8. I just hope succession planning within the squad and position options for players won't cause upset feelings and wanting out. I want both Talau and Doueihi in our starting team next year in positions they like and can contribute to the team 100%.

Out of Talau Douehi Walters Mbye and Reynolds (in no particular order) there's really no need to be looking at a 6 imo.

9 on the other hand ?

For 9 we need Grant this year & Liddle/Simpkins/Walters next year

Do you think Walters would make a better 9 than 6?

I havent seen enough of him tbh to have a definitive opinion. he has played a bit of 9 in Q cup and looks the right style of player to pull it off at a pinch. As a 5/8 he obviously has decent passing game and is fastish and has the right body frame to stand up to the defensive rigours.

I think he would obviously be at least third coice but I'd have him there ahead of ET for arguments sake.

Yes I’m looking forward to seeing a few games to see what Madge is thinking positional wise.

I’ve never seen him play ...
But to be the son of a legend and coming to us at the age of 25 he must be very average ?

Possibly, but he has spent a couple of years in the Melbourne system with some pretty good players ahead of him and still managed a NRL debut (in which I have to admit he looked...average). Not excited by him but I think there is enough there to suggest he would be a passable third backup at 9.

I hope that Talau doesn't get forgotten about in all of this. If he's anywhere near as good as I keep hearing he is, wouldn't be too hard to imagine someone like his dad Willie's old club (Dogs) going after him once his ties to WT are ended. Not sure how long we currently have him tied up for,

Walters was signed to contest for the 6

Don’t know what happened to my previous post? Just disappeared?
Anyway as I was saying.. I’m looking forward to some game time to see what Madge is thinking positional wise? I personally don’t see Doueihi moving from1 and I think Walters has had 1 or 2 games after Which Smith found him not suitable.

Its still there, I think you just mucked up the quote and your post is in my quoted text.

Walters played two games off the bench. The game I saw he came on and played lock.

Do you think Grant may have forced some positional changes which pushed Brandon Smith to 6 and Walters out? I heard Cam Smith wasn’t totally satisfied with his style?

Brandon Smith is big enough to play 2nd row and I think has spent some time there already at the Storm. I think they see Grant as the heir apparent which is why I think Cam Smith has gone around again.

I'm loving our recruitment at the moment...but how about these guys for speed?
HTF is now behind Holmes and the Broncos have a plethora of outside backs...

**Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow**
Date of birth: September 5, 2001
Position: Fullback
NRL appearances: Yet to debut
Representative honours: Australian Schoolboys (2019), Queensland under 18s (2019)
Still only 18, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow is already being tipped for a huge future after impressing over the pre-season.

An exceptionally smooth mover with serious pace, Tabuai-Fidow prefers to play fullback – a role that Valentine Holmes looks to have locked down – but he can also perform on the wing or at centre.

The Townsville Blackhawks junior is currently on a Cowboys development contract, meaning he can't play first-grade without an exemption until after June 30 unless his deal is upgraded.

**Xavier Coates**
Date of birth: March 12, 2001
Position: Wing/centre
NRL appearances: 3
Representative honours: Papua New Guinea (2019), Queensland under 18s (2018, 2019)
Xavier Coates soared onto the NRL scene in round 16 last year when he scored a spectacular try from a kick to help the depleted Broncos claim a famous win against Cronulla.

Coates announces himself in the NRL with a beautyCoates announces himself in the NRL with a beauty
Coates announces himself in the NRL with a beauty
Before then, the teenager performed well on international debut for Papua New Guinea and was named Man of the Match in Queensland's under 18s victory over New South Wales.

Capable of playing wing, centre or fullback, Coates appears only an injury or form slump away from forcing his way into Brisbane's backline – and he could be hard to displace once he gets there.

There's also **Izaia Perese** at the Broncos who is also a gun worth targeting.

**Jason Saab**
Date of birth: October 8, 2000
Position: Wing
NRL appearances: 3
Representative honours: Australian Schoolboys (2018), NSW under 20s (2019), NSW under 18s (2018)
At 199cm and 101kg, 19-year-old Jason Saab will provide size and strength for the Dragons, not to mention being a perfect kick target.

A rule change stipulating that defenders can't tackle attacking players in mid-air should make Saab a lethal aerial weapon.

Saab impressed in three NRL starts in 2019, bagging a double on debut against the Rabbitohs before injury cut his season slightly short.

Yes, he has recently re-signed with us which was great, but my concern is where is he envisaged playing post Benji era. Previously mentioned as potential Benji successor, now Doueihi is also. I just don't want to p off Talau or Doueihi, the succession planning should be handled with care.

I see it as mbye moving from centre to hooker or 6
doueihi 6 or 1
talau centre for 2021
2022
doueihi 6 or 1
talau centre
and market for the remaining 1 or 6 jumper
with hopefully one of the rookie hookers stepping up

Yeah, but at some stage I would like the merry go round of positional changes to stop and allow each player to settle in to a permanent position and make it theirs. We seen to have a lot of multi purpose players and few specialists in the backline.

i agree but we are at stage where we have 2 spine members who are not going to be here next year (reynolds and benji) another over paid centre who is a makeshift everything guy (mbye) who goes next year or the year after?

mbye is there no matter what this year with the captaincy
reynolds maybe off the bench but what does that achieve in terms of stopping the merry go round? unless you move mbye to hooker and rotate with reynolds (seems wasteful) but allows talau a centre spot
but then the momo trade was a waste
