Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

So who on this forum knows the correct number of spots left in our roster for next season (assuming benji and lawrence do not stay)? I have read everything from 22 to 27 players signed (I believe the latter included extending Huth and McIntyre) If 27 is correct then we may well have very little cap space left and could explain shy we dont seem to active in the available player market.

Officially, there’s 24 players signed on for next season however that’s not including Momirovski, who has said he is signed for next season but there’s been no official announcement. So it could be 25.

You can see all the player contracts here if you scroll down: https://www.weststigers.com.au/news/2019/11/01/wests-tigers-2020-nrl-squad/

It is 21 currently, have a look at the table I posted this morning in this thread, there's heaps of detail there which you might be interested in

I added in 6 to that as a potential way forward including Eiso, McIntyre, Benj and 3 bottom dollar players (the ones in blue) but that's just an example

Differences to the previous post number relates to this year development players who graduate but I don't count them as they aren't officially part of the 2021 squad as yet. Effectively I have allowed for three of them in my additions (in blue)

I just assume all 4 will be in our top squad next season as that’s what they’re listed as on the tigers website. Obviously that can change but as of now they’ll be top 30 next season

Yes JC, most likely, so assuming they are then we would likely reconsider Benji (still extend Eiso & McIntyre - or not) as I'd like to think we'd want at least 3 new bigger name signings

To be crystal clear, it is currently 21 + 4 2020 development players which leaves us at 25. If we extend Eiso & McIntyre (or any others instead of) it gets us to 27

Sounds good. We also have to see what happens with Momirovski as well, it sounds like he’s agreed to come back but nothing official. I get the sense they might try use him as a bargaining chip with Melbourne to pick up one of their players in return for letting them keep him, but that’s just my guess.

Would be happy to keep Eiso and McIntyre but with the amount of forwards we have next year we may only have room for one.

We got lucky this year Matulinos medical retirement paid for Luciano and Walters. The swap deal for Harry Grant is a real success.

The big question with releasing Marshall, Brooks, Reynolds, Mbye, Packer is who do you replace them with when you also need to upgrade or extend Aloai, Blore, Nofa and maybe Liddle.

Reynolds to Super League is the biggest win but Mbye is surplus to requirements in my view we have better options in any position he plays.

Not sure Brooks being in the trade block is smart we won’t get a better halfback. We can’t sign anyone of note.

first we've heard of Brooks being on the chopping block which I found interesting. Phelps' mail was horrendous in terms of cap money but I wonder if he got right who has been shown the door.

Hoffman is supposed be on a development contract next year as well, fulltime squad in 2022

Great player. One of my favourites when at the Warriors especially when shoulder charges were legal. Hard dude.

Sharks signed Mulitalo until 2023 before he became available to negotiate. We need to do the same with Aloai, Mikalele, Nofa etc.

We wait until contract years then wonder why we get outbid.

On Fox
BIKIE BARBER NOT PANGAI’S ONLY CLOSE SHAVE

THE trouble for Tevita Pangai Jnr is the bikies barber shop COVID breach wasn’t his first rodeo when it comes to breaching the bubble.

The NRL Integrity Unit has a number of examples of Pangai Jnr blowing the bubble. The Broncos bubble, the NRL bubble, the household bubble.

Fair dinkum, it’s hard to keep up with all the bubbles. It’s a bubble-a-thon.

Pangai is unlikely to play in the NRL again this season as a result of attending a number of restaurants and cafes outside of the bubble.

The Broncos are expected to tear up his contract in coming days.

The New Zealand Warriors and Wests Tigers appear the most logical options for the Brisbane Broncos forward to land at next season.

The Tigers need an enforcer while Warriors recruitment boss Peter O’Sullivan enjoys a strong bond with Pangai.

Pangai was quoted today.. saying....” that he didn’t care as the Broncos are a basket case “.

Pangai Jr would imo by the final piece to the puzzle for our forward pack - we lack a strong second rower to partner Lucy... look at this pack and how much stronger we look just with the addition of only him, I think he would be a phenomenal signing and he’s only 24 as well

Not one player besides Packer is over 24... having Packer there as a mentor as well who apparently despite his reputation is a good leader would be beneficial also

Pretty confident we’ll either have one of Harry Grant or Brandon Smith in 2021

8. Josh Alioia - 24
9. Harry Grant - 22 or Brandon Smith - 24
10. Russell Packer - 30
11. Luciano Leilua - 24
12. Tevita Pangai Jr - 24
13. Alex Twal - 24

Bench
14. Jacob Liddle - 23
15. Thomas Mikaele - 22
16. Shawn Blore - 20
17. Stefano Utoikamanu - 20

He was probably the best at the shoulder charge along with SBW. As soon as you weren’t allowed to do them Matulino had to change his tackling technique completely ?
