Eisenhuth gone huh. That's disappointing. He's finally kicked on in his 4th year with us. Seems a waste to invest so much time in his development only for another club to reap the rewards. I think he'll do well wherever he ends up.

Club wants to retain him but has been asked to be patient while roster is turned over a little bit understand that if something comes along from another club that he needs to look after himself.

Sorry for all the questions, what’s the club doing player retention wise? Obviously it’s hard with next year being uncertain of squad sizes but surely they are at least in early discussion with some guys who are free to talk to other clubs come November

Only 2 players off contract in 2021 have had extensions discussed (Aloiai & Twal) but early days.

I thought Twal was off contract end of 2022.

2022 is a player option, can technically become free agent from November 1 this year if not activated prior.

Hey Pom are the previous reports linking us to having an interest in Foran genuine?

Nothing from inside the club is pushing this with Foran.

Hallelujah :raised_hands:

Enough of these pensioner signings. Prioritise youth with potential instead of experience with arthritis...

Cheers POM you absolute legend :kissing:

He is 5 years younger than Benji, and there are plenty who think we should keep him, I know which one would make us a better chance of making the 8, and it isn't Benji

Yeah man I hear Ya...

We'd probs be a better team with him over benji but I reckon the risk/reward is too high. The dude's a risk of getting injured rolling out of bed in the morning lol.

Looks like roster spots are at a premium for next year. The club seems adamant on reducing signings that have little upside through development(older dudes)

I agree, I am not saying we should sign Foran, just making a point, roster spots are at a premium, and we shouldn’t sign either

The nrl really can't change the sizes of squads at this late stage. Would be highly unethical... Many clubs have already filled 80-90% of their 30man rosters. Had they known rosters would be smaller certain contracts would never have been signed.
They've already acted unethically in introducing major changes to the rules mid season. The money is still there for clubs, why on earth would they make drastic changes now when clubs have no flexibility to respond.

If they want to change squad sizes it must be for the 2022 season. That would be fair. Anything else is madness.

But then Vlandys is a dictator and like Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon he'll use his toxic power to make up the rules as he goes.

So to clarify based on comments from The_POM:

Club not looking seriously at Proctor (thank god!)
Benji may or may not go around again next year - if he has any commonsense he won't;
If Benji pulls the pin (he's not contracted anyway), then Doueihi potentially moves to 6, allowing us to have a red hot crack at JAC or Staines as a possible fullback;
Bunty Afoa could potentially end up at the club which provides us with an impact forward which we need;
Blore well regarded and highly rated and the club want to keep him;
Aloiai and Twal in the clubs long term plans.

That about right?

Recruitment issue next year isn’t about cap space but need to free up roster spots.

Want to retain Eisenhuth but could lose him due to lack of spots and priorities.

Welch unlikely, too many $$$ offered by other clubs (Dragons). Someone would have to take Packer and his salary.

Saab negotiations stalled, pursuing other opportunities (Staines / JAC?)

100% a half is on the agenda, but that is tied in with moving on a big $$ player (Reynolds? Super League being explored)

No discussions on Foran.

NRL considering roster sizes, maybe 28?

Oh, and something about Kevin Proctor’s helmet.

Totally agree. This is crazy. How can anyone (coaches, admin, players) plan when something as big as this is up in the air? They're basically asking clubs to gamble. If you chose to leave space in your roster and they lower the limit, congrats, you did good! If you signed too many players, oh, whoopsie! You can't sign those other player(s) you wanted to sign.

In regards to the squad size has the nrl set a date to decide

At this point no & clubs are getting increasingly frustrated.

Any internal talks of an experienced backrower i.e Proctor or Harris, or is this just media suggestions?

"Proctor has been discussed internally & a question of value was brought up with his mama helmet but nothing further."

This is what THE_POM said

What is a "mama helmet"?

I’d say spell check for management.

Good pick up. I did not get that.. Kept thinking it was something to do with his mop of a head lol.

If Blore is so highly thought of in the club, why the hell is he not on the bench this weekend.
I'd love to see him take on JWH the same way that he never backed down the Nathan Brown.

Really champ, we are talking about a bloke who only just turned 20, coming back from a serious injury and lengthy recovery, has only just debuted and played a total of 75% of one game. How about we grow this bloke first, and make him a value added member of our team and club first. How about some realistic goals and developmental pathways, trust Madge.
Besides Brown's and idiot, JWH, even playing hurt is a different animal altogether

If my surname was Stains I would have to join the Navy. It would just be too funny to pass up.

Ahh...Captain Pugwash.

Pretty handy crew with Stains and RTS as cabin boy.

So Staines, Burton and Bunty seem to be within our budget and realistic gets. Now awaiting Marshall to announce retirement.

2 weeks time would be a good time for his announcement to retire.The longer it drags on the more uncertainty it creates which would not be a good thing for the club.

If the league reduces clubs to 28 players per club that would leave a surplus of 32 players
Enough for a new team ?
Expansion?

Going ok champ until you had to mention Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon in a ignorant negative way, boy does USA need Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon now more than ever from the crazies

Does he kick goals?

Kicking the best goals in the world before the pandemic, will get the tee outvand rebuild the mound once he wins his next match lol. Love the Don

Seriously, if we are going to move AD to 6, we need to sign an established fullback. Since Tedesco has left, we’ve signed 3 replacements. Lolohea, Mbye and AD. The first two failed, and while AD is a better prospect than the first two, I don’t think fullback is in his long term future. It’s why I wouldn’t touch a kid like Staines. We need to go after someone whose proven themselves as an out and out fullback.

Not many good quality fullbacks around and any that are get signed by the big clubs. Staines is more of a fullback than anyone we’ve got and while he’s unproven he’s got a very high ceiling - at the very least he’s quick as and cheap

Doubt we have the coin this year to do that - might be a 2022 prospect when more cash is available.

Does madge rate Bradley or Madden at all?

may as well jump on question train 🙂

I recall the Dragons wanted a half, Madden or Walters, for Saab. POM wrote last night there were issues/concerns about whom the Dragons wanted. I took it to mean WTs were unlikely to agree. I believe Madden is highly thought of but Reynolds needs to move on as he is blocking his progress. Not sure about Bradley.
