SIMON DWYER RE-SIGNS FOR TWO MORE YEARS
By Wayne Cousins
17/12/2010 6:21:36 AM
Wests Tigers has re-signed one of the game’s brightest young back-rowers in Simon Dwyer for a further two years.

Off contract at the end of next season, Dwyer will continue to develop under Wests Tigers and Australian Coach Tim Sheens. Dwyer was recognised for his fine season off the interchange bench by being named Wests Tigers Rookie of the Year for 2010.

A Western Suburb junior, Dwyer came through the Wests Tigers Cubs program and played for the U20s team in 2008 and 2009 before breaking into the NRL side. Dwyer played 18 matches this season in the NRL after making his first grade debut in 2009.

His bone-rattling tackle on Sydney Roosters forward Jared Waerea-Hargreaves in the preliminary final at the SFS rates as one of the best hits of the year.

“Simon is one of the next generation of quality young forwards we have at the Club. He still has plenty to learn but is developing nicely,’’ said Wests Tigers Coach Tim Sheens said.

“It shows that the junior system we have in place is working.”

Dwyer said he was proud to sign the new deal after working his way up the ranks.

“I was looking for a bit of security and Wests Tigers stuck by me so hopefully I can do them proud,’’ Dwyer said.

“I am hoping to push for a starting spot next season, so if that comes along, I will grab it with both hands.”

Footnote: Wests Tigers supporters can congratulate Simon Dwyer on his new deal in person when he appears with Nu Akeripa at Gearzone Campbelltown this Saturday, December 18, from 12pm to 2pm.

Dwyer and Akeripa will be available to sign autographs and pose for photographs.

Wests Tigers is also offering a special jersey deal at Gearzone.

Puchase any 2010 jersey and choose one of the Burley caps and it will cost supporters just $125, a saving of $60 on the normal retail price.

You’ll have to act fast though as there is only limited stock available.

Gear Zone Campbelltown is located at Shop 234, Brands on Sale Outlet
32 Queen Street, Campbelltown.

Coach Sheens mentioned Dywers name in an interview a few years back as pone to watch.

Well done Simon and well done WT.

Hopefully it isn't too big a contract. He is good but far from proven as yet

Good to see we still have juniors coming through our ranks and making it to 1st grade. While it's always nice to sign the big name international stars, there's something more rewarding when our juniors get amongst it.

If you were to build the perfect back rower, you would give them simon dwyers body. He has all the potential in the world

Well done Simon and the tigers for seeing his massive potential. hope he lives up to it and rips it up for the mighty tigers in years to come.

Mark my words Dwyer will wear the 12 jersey come round 1 2011.

Definitely not a swipe at his ability but… at who's expense?

Fulton? Heighno? Ellis?

I don't think he'll replace either to be honest... not yet anyway

100% K.

He is 18 games old and thats off the Bench.

Coach Sheens has always stated that your not a true first grader until you have 50 games under you belt.

Injury can change anything, however as it is he will be a very strong option off the bench in 2011/12 and there is certainly no shame in that.

Wow I just read this news then. Good news! I have a good feeling about Dwyer. It's possible he could start in the second row with Fulton moving to the interchange because Dwyer can hit very hard in defense and Sheens might want that at the start of the game and Fulton's good defense would definately come in handy when our other players are starting to get tired. Either way is good though aslong as they are both in the 17.

Hold the phone…never thought I'd see that...Liam certain starter...wow

Barb Dwyer is still growing...I can see Sheens turing him into a PROP..especially given it will be his second season being flogged by Folkes...

GREAT Extention..**Western Suburb junior, Dwyer came through the Wests Tigers Cubs**

Hahaha can't believe I was spewing when it was announced he was returning… how dumb was that!

dont sell yourself short on this one kaiser … you were'nt robinson crusoe !! fulton definately came back a bigger smarter player which has really benefited the tigers

No pearl….he was a ring leader...

Just glad we have them both long term....Fulton AND Dwyer...woop

Fults is a genuine footballer - and they tend to get better with age - that is why I was more than happy to see him back! He just needed the maturity that comes with a year overseas - to improve as a player & person!

I personally don't believe he came back any bigger - but he has gotten physically stronger and has learnt how to use his frame better in both defence and attack!

I back Ayshford to keep improving in the same vein (& Blake already has some size and surprising strength)!

As fainty pointed out in another thread - Blake is a yet another genuine old-school footballer from our quality production line - not just another big & fast athlete playing League (who tend to get found out eventually)!

no offence to Simon, but apart from 1 big hit last year, he was only an average interchange player at best. Over the last few months I have watched a lot of replay games. So I am not sure what this enormus hype is about.
