Simon Dwyer set for debut

Benji if i am not mistaken was never part of the Wests Tigers Cubs.

He Came through Kerebra Park (Spelling) School on the Gold Coast and thus never getting the chance to be in the Cubs Squad

Wests Tigers rookie Simon Dwyer to debut against Cowboys

July 14, 2009 Wests Tigers will hand an NRL debut to 20-year-old second-rower Simon Dwyer against North Queensland Cowboys at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday.

The 192cm-tall Dwyer, is called up from the club's Toyota Cup side and takes his place on the interchange bench in a game the Tigers have to win to keep alive their hopes of reaching the finals.

“He is a big, strong backrower, who plays on the right edge and hits a good line, has a good offload and we think he has a big future,” said Tigers assistant coach Royce Simmons.

The Tigers will meet an in-form Cowboys side sitting fifth on the ladder, boosted by the return of Johnathan Thurston after State of Origin duty on Wednesday.

However the visitors will be without NSW second-rower Luke O'Donnell (knee) and hooker Aaron Payne (shoulder) who are both sidelined through injury.

People complain when Sheens doesn't blood new players then when it appears he is giving a young bloke in Simon Dwyer with loads of potential, who for mine has been the Wests Tigers U 20's outstanding player this year, a crack at the top grade to give him a taste to see if he has what it takes…It shoud be someone else better than him....

Good Luck to you Simon ....if it happens hope you kill it in an outstanding debut for Wests Tigers....Well done....

If we do not give the young blokes a go, they will leave and go elsewhere. We have plenty of young, promising players, but you won't know if they can make the step up, until you give them a go in the top grade. If these young players prove to be good NRL-standard, you have an NRL player at a much lower cost THAN BUYING SOME-ONE ELSE'S CAST-OFF.

He certainly looks the goods. Big, strong and fast, I hope he tackles alright at this level.

Carve them up son

Im excited for this kid, ive seen him a few times….impressed me every time
has a great offload, and thats what our club needs

Ellis has a better offload and nobody follows him through the ruck do they?

Royce can bang on about Dwyers offload (which is good) but when an inept gnome like him is involved in the coaching staff than it will go to waste.

Would have preffered Gower who is more experienced, has a great offload, great line running etc but has played against competition where defence is actually a big part of the game.

But best of luck to Simon if he indeed makes his debut

i have to say that this season i have been far happier with sheens giving young guys a go in nrl, and am happy to hear another is getting a chance. this is exactly what the tiges should be doing now that 09 is all but done.
i dont know anything about dwyer, but looking forward to seeing him play. good on ya dwyer!!

Ellis has a better offload and nobody follows him through the ruck do they?

exactly right. it is quite frustrating that all season ellis gets 16 guys hanging off him, gets the arm with the ball free and there is no one there. :unamused:
i tell you, if i were playing, i would be following this guy every hit up! i just dont get it? i suppose that would be my only gripe about moltzen when he was at fullback. hopefully gallant can start to back him up because ellis has the potential to set up so many line breaks that go wanting at the moment…..

What sticks in my mind to sum up our support play was V the Cows in Townsville.

Ellis standing 3 metres from the line ready to offload and Moltzen actually telling him to take the tackle

Marshall never played for the Cubs, he was playing with keebra & Wests Tigers first grade.

I'm pretty sure he did play one game for the Cubs and scored a stack of tries.

so this is him last year in the toyota cup
