SIRONEN AND MILLER FORM DEADLY HALVES PAIRING

Understanding each other’s style of play will in time lead to a more deadly halves combination of Curtis Sironen and Jacob Miller says Wests Tigers U20s Coach Grant Jones.
In just four full games together in the NYC competition, Sironen and Miller have re-ignited the Wests Tigers attack. It is no co-incidence that their performances, both individually and as a halves pairing, has seen Wests Tigers win four consecutive matches after a slow start to the season.
At 19, Miller is the ‘senior’ player and the most experienced of the two, having played 3 NRL matches this season after being promoted by Head Coach Tim Sheens to make his first grade debut.
Sironen first got tongues wagging with some outstanding performances after being called up to the Wests Tigers U20s team at the back end of last season.
“Curtis and Jacob are very confident and are the ideal players to have in those positions because they want to come up with the big plays,’’ Jones said.
“If you need to kick a goal from the sideline, Jacob is the one. If you need a big play in the last few minutes, Curtis would back himself. The one area they need to keep working on is complimenting each other as they are dominant players. That is going to be the secret ingredient.
“The opposition is more aware of Curtis now so he needs to mix his game up a little bit but he is smart enough to do that. He also needs to work out when to bring his second-rowers into the game and when to have a crack himself.
“Like Curtis, Jacob likes to run the ball too. It is not like we have a traditional half-back who is an organiser. Tim Sheens sees Curtis as a six and Jacob as a 7 so it is now getting them to play more like that. Get Jacob to come across more and play to Curtis, rather than just go from left to right.
“The more the games they play together, the better they will become. It is a work in progress but I’m very pleased with what they have produced.”
