SIZE IN THE FORWARDS

Having read a comment by someone on this site that the tigers side was quite small compared to the rosters side, makes me wonder why we have not gone out and brought some size in to the team. Can anyone provide any details on this subject,

Are you sure you aren't reading a post from 2006?

Look at our team

Galloway
Woods
Blair
Bell
BMM
Moors
Groat -

all thse guys are well and truly over 100kgs

then Heighno and Fulton are both around the 95kg mark.

To top it off, Reddy and Ayshford both tip in at 100kgs or thereabouts.

It's not a small side anymore by any stretch.

Should this be in another category?

Anyway…

The big NRL pack is Souths I reckon. Even without young Burgess they are huge! While skill wins the day as St George showed, they will trample anyone at times - which they did against StG for a short period.

Looking forward to seeing our pack vs theirs in flesh!

I believe bp tiger is referring to the Under 20's NYC side not First Grade…

Yep, the NYC side is not a big side. Heaviest starting forward is around the 104kf mark in Soni Passi, but he's not tall, he's built like FuiFui Moi Moi. One thing I noticed against the Roosters though, what this team lacks in physical presence, they make up for with skill, mobility and fitness. Plus they look to be a stronger defensive team than last year's group. They really do get numbers in tackles and most players look to have a good defensive technique.

It will be interesting to see how they go against the bigger, physical sides like the Warriors. The Roosters are certainly big, but the Tigers had them for speed and mobility. I know Payten would have liked a bit of extra size in the front row, but overall I think he has a pretty decent side.

In the NYC trial only one side looked like they had trained as a team for an off season and that certainly was not the Roosters

Having fast mobile pack will help us early in the season but as the big packs get match fit it will become a struggle. It seem to what happens most years with our u20s

It was the first thing my mate and I noticed when the Tigers NYC team ran out for the trial against Parra - they looked so small. It is only early obviously, but I do think this is a problem. They seemed to get steamrolled in the middle of the ruck. To combat this they had numbers in tackles but that just created room out wide.

Parra weren't good enough to capitalise on this but others will I think.

And Vela and Rowe really looked the goods. I understand that Rowe played well in the chooks game too!

Sat in the grandstand against the Roosters and Payten said he was running with his strongest 20 players for that match, so Szcudlo may not have made it, although it's a long season so he could get a look in later.

"JARRAD SZCZUDLO"
Knowing the selection process with the forwards all 2nd year players get preference on selection , Szczudlo being green has been picked in the 22 man squad . Todd has so many great forwards to use in his squad and is spoiled for choice !!!!
Jarrad made SUPRISE appearance for burwood nth ryde bundy cup for match fitness !!!
Which to me sounds like Payton has a plan for him this season !!!!!

No doubt he does have a plan for Jarrad. It's a long season and the Tigers depth will undoubtedly be tested. Jarrad has looked ok from what I've seen so I reckon he'll get his turn at some stage this season. Perseverence and hard work will hopefully see him get a run sooner rather than later.

My how things have changed. It wasn't long ago good forwards were being cut from the wests tigers under 20's because they were considered not big enough despite having the abillity to play 20's. Those same forwards would be bigger than the guys running around now. Strange!
