**Slater charged with dangerous contact**
Updated May 10, 2010 13:44:00

Storm full-back Billy Slater can escape a suspension for the feet-first tackle that led to a penalty try in Sunday's 36-14 loss to Brisbane in Melbourne.

Slater received a grade one dangerous contact charge for the 23rd minute incident, which resulted in a rare penalty try being awarded by video referee Steve Clark.

The Test custodian appeared to go into a tackle legs first, attempting to stop Broncos winger Jharal Yow Yeh scoring in the corner.

Slater was placed on report but he will escape any ban if he enters an early guilty plea.

He will miss only Saturday's round 10 clash with the Raiders in Canberra if he contests the charge and is unsuccessful.

No other charges arose from the weekend matches, although one fixture remains in round nine with the Roosters hosting North Queensland at Sydney Football Stadium this evening. (End of article)

When is the NRL going to do something to Slater to discourage him from going into 'tackles' feet first?
How can Bryce Gibbs be suspended for three weeks for kneeing Luke Burt lightly in the bum, when this guy attacks the head of opponents with his feet regularly and is never penalised?

It's begun….

He has no reason to care about missing games because it means nothing to play them! Wait for the storm to start taking guys heads off...

They got the Penalty Try and thats where it should end. There was nothing in it…

The decision to Suspend Bryce was also rubbish...

I'll agree it was at the milder end of the scale but it is an extremely dangerous tactic and the NRL has to start suspending some of the people who do it. Slater also has form for it and we've all seen some pretty lame head high tackles earn suspension due to points carrying over.

I think he's lucky not to get a week for it.

You make an interesting point - the Storm have never had much regard for the rules, on or off the field. The novelty of 'playing for pride and the supporters' might already have worn off. They have nothing to lose.

Can they stack thier NSW Cup Team with NRL Players?

Is there suitable prize money in the NSW Cup?

I'm not sure you get any money for winning the NSW Cup. If you do I don't think it's worth the effort of playing Inglis and Co in it every week - they're going to have enough trouble keeping their fans as it is without half of them missing so they can play the Auckland Vulcans.
