Slow and steady wins the race l was told ….but old footballers should enjoy there time in retirement and not comment on things that they have no control over .But there are always the ones that are good for a comment to feel important no one in particular but there are a few around.

That Shane Day was a bloody good hooker … Club legend even ... Why don't the medja hunt down Shane for a quote on all matters Wests Tigers ... Who knows, he may even offer up something eloquent.

Little known fact #317 ... Shane Day and his ubber stylish use of electrical tape would beome a huge influence on another club legend, Australian lock forward Wayne Junior Pearce.

To me and to most Benny Elias the hooker and Benny Elias the businessman are two different people and should be judged differently.I believe its quite legitimate a lot of the questions that the old balmain boys are asking of Benny as to why he and he alone is profiting handsomely as the club "that made him" and others for over 100 years are going down the gurglar while he still rakes in the dollars.Perhaps your "cheap low dog slur" should be pointed in another direction.Agendas hmmmmmmmm. :crazy :crazy

Last time I checked we are Wests Tigers , and one B Elias is not a club great of Wests Tigers. I'm sick of him commenting

I know the author of this piece quite well, we were members of the same cycling club for years. Matthew is a proud socialist with a beautifully manicured habit of making baseless accusations. He's the journeyman of Fairfax, still writing crap, couldn't progress past being a political correspondent. He should rent an office with Danny Weidler

The irony here is staggering.

We're too slow in hiring a coach, of which we only have 4 options, because we cannot afford to buy a big name. If he wasn't so slow in delaying the decisions on the redevelopment (There's no chance that building should go ahead in it's current design), we wouldn't be in this situation.

Do you see the irony in posting a message on a forum suggesting someone shouldn't comment? He's as entitled to his opinion as you or me. Feel free to disagree with him but if a journo asks him questions he's allowed why shouldn't he be allowed to answer?

That is fine and as a past player for Balmain, NSW and Australia, he probably deserves to make comment. However, I think what riles many fans about Elias, in particular those from the Western Suburbs half, is that he rarely acknowledges Western Suburbs. You never hear him say "Wests", it is always the "Tigers". Perhaps this is a problem with all past players of Western Suburbs and Balmain and I can understand that after playing for these clubs that loyalty never ceases, but Elias always seems to be in the press pushing "Tigers". Further, his involvement in the Leagues Club deal creates further animosity because due to his perceived lack of acceptance of the JV, his motive will always be questioned. Does he want Wests Tigers to thrive, or does he want Wests out and Balmain to thrive?

I for one will always be suspicious of him until he comes out in the press supporting Wests Tigers, acknowledges Western Suburbs and the financial support provided by the Wests Group.

If you read the story he relates to the team as 'we'.
Don't you think he's relating to WestsTigers?
You will never hear me call them Wests either because I grew up calling them the Tigers.
I've got friends who call them Wests because they grew up following the Maggies.
Big deal - we still support the same team now.
And why on earth does anybody who makes a comment about speeding up the naming of a coach have to acknowledge the financial support of the Wests group or anybody else?

Exactly - a lot of former Balmain fans use the term Tigers because they spend a large part of their life saying that.

Elias actually never mentions Tigers in any of the quoted parts. He uses the terms "our" and "we". Elias was a director of the Balmain Football Club so naturally he has some connection with that side of the JV - his involvement in matters relating to Balmain aren't necessary at the exclusion of his support for Wests Tigers. Likewise the success of the Rozelle club is going to benefit WT.

If he didn't care about Wests Tigers thriving why would be bother to comment about our coaching problems? His involvement in the Rozelle deal is well documented and I'd again direct people (not necessarily you Gary) to the comments made by Kevin Rooney on the matter.

I don't dispute that and it's pretty clear he is on speed-dial for anyone wanting a quote on anything WT related. What I'm saying is, given this is the case, he's perfectly entitled to answer questions and give his opinion.

Never said he doesn't care about Wests Tigers. I, and many other fans, are just suspicious as to _why_ he cares about the Wests Tigers? Does he generally support the involvement of the Wests Group and embraces that Wests Tigers are the future, or is the JV just a hiatus for Balmain to return again at the highest level?

Just imagine if this JV was to fall down and Balmain returned, I can just see Benny yelling to the masses that he hated the JV and never wanted Wests involved and was instrumental in getting rid of them - that is the level of suspicion at which many hold him.

I never said he has to acknowledge Wests right now or on every occasion. It is just that he has **never** acknowledged the role of Wests in this JV. Take a hypothetical situation where a decision has to be made, he could say something as simple as, "we will work with our partners Wests to ensure the best outcome for Wests Tigers fans." Instead, there will never be a mention of Wests and it will just focus on Tigers.
